I prefer the goldilocks zone when I sing.

It's not like Lincoln Hall has a 20 year old window unit for its A/C! I would imagine that they might have even considered how much noise the vents made in the room.

That reminds me of when "carl," Jeff, and I went to see TV on the Radio at a tiny record store in G'boro, NC. Their manger or whatever asked the guy working at the store to turn off the track lighting. It wasn't possible to turn off those lights w/out turning other, necessary lights, so he had them take down the offending fixtures.
He said the band needed them taken down b/c their black skin would absorb the light and make them uncomfortable.

You all can probably guess my opinion of performers who won't turn on the AC in a venue in the summer but in case you can't: they are worse than Pol Pot.
― carl agatha, Thursday, 16 February 2012 17:18 (twelve years ago) link
ditto
― garbage corn fan (Je55e), Thursday, 16 February 2012 17:18 (twelve years ago) link
It was a white guy in the band who asked about the lights.
― carl agatha, Thursday, 16 February 2012 17:19 (twelve years ago) link
Worse than Pol Pot and Gaydolf Shitler combined.
xp - oh. not sure how that affects my opinion of his request.

Those performers can hook up with the owners of Great Lakes Pizza and move to the moon.

What did GLP do?
― garbage corn fan (Je55e), Thursday, 16 February 2012 17:21 (twelve years ago) link
I wish I had more opportunities to say "Gaydolf Shitler."
(no AC performers, not TV on the Radio, whom I love and would let sleep in our spare room.)
xp GLP is all surly and self important and hostile to custard because their pizza is soooooo great.
― carl agatha, Thursday, 16 February 2012 17:22 (twelve years ago) link
I'll still pay for that tattoo.
Get "Gaydolph Shittler" in a banner under your little fuckmouse tattoo.
― carl agatha, Thursday, 16 February 2012 17:23 (twelve years ago) link
what if track lighting was all just a massive conspiracy by THE MAN to make black people uncomfortable?

Hot Doug gets around the hostile-to-custard attitude while still running a place by his own set of rules.

They acknowledge that waiting in line for an hour for a hot dog really blows and take steps to make it go quickly and pleasantly and at the end, they help you find a table. They don't act like they are doing you a god damn favor by condescending to take your money.

i'm on this committee for the sp3cial l1braries ass0ciation illinois chapter and this morning i was supposed to call in for a practice webinar but didn't notice that the email said 11 a.m. EST not CST so i missed the call and apparently the woman who was head of the committee quit. hopefully not just due to me missing the call. anyways that should make things interesting.
― congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 16 February 2012 21:44 (twelve years ago) link
I'm excited that I'll be a fellow Illinoisan starting this summer! I got the job in C-U so I'll be down in the prairie rather than up in the city for the most part, but we'll be up in the city a whole bunch, so perhaps I'll see what you guys are up to once in a while.
― Euler, Thursday, 16 February 2012 21:50 (twelve years ago) link
We can have a webinar.

congratulations euler! can you say what you'll be doing? are you at the university?
― congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 16 February 2012 22:05 (twelve years ago) link
yeah I'll be a new faculty member at the university. It's a cool town! we were there last month doing some initial looking for houses, schools, etc. It's one of those places where everyone's like, oh, you should meet so and so, they're really interesting, won a Pulitzer Prize a couple of years ago; and so on. It'll be nice to go to Chicago too, though C-U is pretty self-sufficient with e.g. food & culture compared with the Big 12 college town I presently live in.
― Euler, Thursday, 16 February 2012 22:08 (twelve years ago) link
plus I start with tenure so we'll be able to buy a pretty nice place I think. I dunno, it seems like the kinda place I could spend my career at? looking to settle down! I've never said that before.

I am actually sufficiently cynical about municipal/state politics that nothing in that Reader article upset me, because I pretty much already knew that's how it was going to go down. That makes me a little sad.
― carl agatha, Thursday, 16 February 2012 22:45 (twelve years ago) link
i liked it because i generally know that everything is corrupt but i don't really know exactly how so i felt like it did a good job of laying out all the questionable factors

It did! That was a good article. I just had no emotional reaction to it.
