Courtney and I saw Silent House and it was tense and scary and quite a bit better than expected. And it was interesting but I don't want to say more b/c spoilers. Jenny, I think you will like it.

And it stars Elizabeth Olsen, which is nice. I like looking at her.

So in the light of day, the confederate flag revealed itself to have a wolf on it. Jeff thought it might be a Chicago Wolves banner but I just completed some surveillance/research and it is, in fact, a flag version of this:

You can buy one of your own for $4.99!

Sorry! I'm a little obsessed with this hideous item and the fact that it is publicly displayed in the window of one of my neighbors!

We're watching Homicide and over the last two episodes, they have peripheral suspects named Lane Staley and Chris Novaselic.

ooh! neat.

― Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Friday, March 9, 2012 1:02 PM (3 days ago) Bookmark

Know what's not neat? Finding out that these RSVPs often disappear so quickly that no one who reads the article/blog post/whatever could possibly have a chance of actually going to the event. I was looking forward to it and I had no chance ;_;

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Monday, 12 March 2012 14:15 (twelve years ago) link

t0dd sw1ss tweeted that he was at the show and it was totally totally packed, i guess it was higher-demand than i would have thought

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 12 March 2012 15:33 (twelve years ago) link

I figured that getting in would require advance notice, so I added lampo on fb so I can join the elite squad that actually gets into events like this.

Today so far at work: some of the lights went out, all of the lights went out, the Internet went out, all of the lights came back on, the Internet came back, some of the lights went out again.

Also there is a rally in support of Rod Blagojevich on Wednesday if anybohahahahahahaha I can even finish that sentence.

carl agatha, Monday, 12 March 2012 15:42 (twelve years ago) link

today so far at work: our marketing person sent out a word document of all of the tweets about an event we had last week, instead of just providing the hashtag and a link to twitter.com (i would guess at the request of some less tech-savvy management staff)

Anyone seen The Chicagoan? Sounds promising:

Yeah, I actually went to Unabridged Books to buy a copy but then I realized it was $20 and so I bought a book instead

roy g. devoe (askance johnson), Monday, 12 March 2012 15:53 (twelve years ago) link

It looks pretty cool, but I don't know if I'm ready to shell out $20 for it.

$20 an issue?!

yes it is $20 an issue
and
yes, I'm still interested in pub quiz. Sara might come too.

roy g. devoe (askance johnson), Monday, 12 March 2012 16:08 (twelve years ago) link

I flipped through The Chicagoan at the Art Institute a couple weeks ago, and yeah, it looks v. cool, but I can't justify the price tag. I have to say: I admire their journalistic purity or whatever is responsible for their unwillingness to accept ads, but if that's the difference between a $20 magazine and a $10 magazine, I'll take the ads, thanks. Maybe something less glossy, too? The Believer is ad-free and ~$10, iirc.

Apparently there will be a lengthy story on my company in the second issue of the magazine.

Cuba Pudding, Jr. (jaymc), Monday, 12 March 2012 16:09 (twelve years ago) link

Hey assholes, guess what?

I just accidentally signed an email to the DOJ like this:

Bery Truly Yours,
Carl Agatha

But with my real name. But I wrote "Bery" instead of "Very," and sent it before I noticed.

carl agatha, Monday, 12 March 2012 17:54 (twelve years ago) link

haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

On my way to work today I saw a blue 80s Chrystler LeBaron crammed with teenagers getting down to this song (it was playing on Power 92). The car had a sticker on the rear bumper that read "FIRE NANCY PELOSI". Springtime in the city!

You sent it from your work email, right? I assume you - like all sane people - have enabled "undo" on your Gmail.

40oz of tears (Jordan), Monday, 12 March 2012 18:39 (twelve years ago) link

Yesterday, M@tt and Je55e and I ate pupusas in the neighborhood. Then my downstairs neighbor texted to say that everyone in the building smelled gas, and they were going to call Peoples and possibly our gas supply would be cut off. I sprinted home (belly full of pupusas), because I feared that we'd left beans boiling on the stove. Thankfully, that was not the case. As I walked back toward the pupusa restaurant I ran into a very bold skunk. J & M insisted it was a cat, and thankfully were proven wrong before being sprayed. The evening ended when, while driving J to the Belmont bus, I spotted a gentleman sprawled out, not moving, on the grass. Not being roused by J's boisterous yells, we called 911. When I got back from the bus stop, there were 2 cop cars, a firetruck and an ambulance. The. End.

I need a pupusas.

I said it was a cat but then I saw the small sprig of white hairs on its tail. As I said on 77, I chased it for a little bit and it was adorable. I threw a stick at it to see if it would spray (I was not within its range) but then I realized it would be spraying someone's house, which would suck. But then I remembered that God took my sense of smell, so I used it like an atomizer to spray all the Catholics.

I broke down at lunch and picked up the first issue of The Chicagoan, since I saw it in the window of a bookstore I walked by on Printer's Row. Haven't had much of a chance to dig in yet, but it does look pretty nice. It was the history of Siskel & Ebert and the talk with Jeanne Gang that sold me. I'll see if looks like it'll be worth spending $20 on every issue.

huh i was walking in printer's row on my lunch break too, at around 2. maybe we passed by each other. a missed connection.

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 12 March 2012 20:59 (twelve years ago) link

i've been going on lunch break walks since the weather's been nicer and i'm tired of just walking around in the loop so today i cut south to the weird river view apartment building then east to printer's row then back up into the loop.

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 12 March 2012 21:01 (twelve years ago) link

I was there about 1:30, so probably not. Yeah, I've been taking increasingly longer lunch walks with the nice weather. Sometimes it makes all the difference in surviving a hectic day.

It's true. I always vow to get outside at least a little bit every day, but I always forget. Then I feel like a mole person when I finally get off work and face the outside world.

it cuts into my reading time but adds to my podcast listening time. though today i listened to the mastered version of the adv@nce b@se album.

Well it helps that I don't have any options for food within my building and I don't bring my lunch, pretty much forcing me out into the wider world if I want to eat.

stan this sick bunt (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 12 March 2012 21:31 (twelve years ago) link

I access the many options available via pedway like a real mole person.
