They shot Dale in the head before he died I'm pretty sure.

this fucking guy that i speak to you about (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Monday, 12 March 2012 05:47 (twelve years ago) link

ooh, of course they did. my bad. I do tend to play Bejeweled when I watch it.

the zombie cop wasn't a cop, that was Randall. Shane broke his neck

lol bejewelled

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 12 March 2012 05:51 (twelve years ago) link

No, the cop from episodes ago when they were going to originally kill Randall. They made a point of noting that the dead cop had no bite marks, and they assumed it was the scratches that did it. Maybe I'm misremembering/misreading.

And I find myself reaching for Bejewelled whenever there are dialogue scenes and I feel my eyes are going to roll into the back of my head.

emo days of our lives with occasional zombies

Also Lori is either awesome at sticking the knife in with Shane or just totally oblivious. "I dont know whose baby it is" "Sorry that u fell in love with me k thx bye"

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 12 March 2012 06:59 (twelve years ago) link

carl is SO ANNOYING, his little fucking face.

herchel for me is the comedy gold of this show, all his lines are just so stereotyped and awful, to the point that it's actually hilarious. "me and that couch became very good friends, yep folks, now i have to go until my next appearance in this bad videogame"

you guys are harsh on this show :(

JacobSanders, Monday, 12 March 2012 09:30 (twelve years ago) link

still watch it asap on a streaming site every week

I'd like to see them go the length of the comic, which I haven't read. Just like watching zombie drama. My only real complaint is too many commercials, and yeah hate Carl.

JacobSanders, Monday, 12 March 2012 09:38 (twelve years ago) link

carl was a little less offensive this week. actually I thought this was the best ep of the season.

Simon H., Monday, 12 March 2012 10:00 (twelve years ago) link

to be fair it has definitely improved with this ep and last week's, hugely.

I'm going to allow this! (LocalGarda), Monday, 12 March 2012 10:11 (twelve years ago) link

I agree. And it's still got awesome special effects no matter what. I mean, how could I walk away from a pitchfork through a zombie head :D

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 12 March 2012 13:50 (twelve years ago) link

why is everybody trying to give carl a gun that isn't his.

WTF WHERE DID YOU GET THIS GUN, CARL, ARE YOU INSANE?
i stole it from daryl and don't want it anymore
YOU MUST KEEP IT

one of the major zombie rules that has NOT yet shown up in the show but almost certainly WILL (because some big plot points circle around it) is that if ANYBODY in this new world dies (whether it's from a zombie bite or not), they eventually come back to life as a zombie.

This is one of the things from the comics that seemed unbelievably dumb.

Respectfully, Tyrese Gibson (Nicole), Monday, 12 March 2012 14:19 (twelve years ago) link

i got the feeling that this was a recent/new development in the zombie 'illness'. although I guess, also, they haven't seen anyone die from anyone other than zombies until recently.

akm, Monday, 12 March 2012 14:22 (twelve years ago) link

what about those dudes they shot in the bar?

brownie, Monday, 12 March 2012 14:24 (twelve years ago) link

both shot in head right?

piggyback payoff (NZA), Monday, 12 March 2012 14:49 (twelve years ago) link

dave shot in head, tony first in gut then in head

i appreciated that they finally attempted to make some shots of this show look vaguely comic book-y this episode. want more of that please.

piggyback payoff (NZA), Monday, 12 March 2012 14:49 (twelve years ago) link

like, i can stand dumb father/son talks if they are going to silhouette it in stark black n white etc

Hasn't this always been the case from Night of the Living Dead on? The dead or freshly dead come back to life? Because otherwise there's a chicken or egg thing going on.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 12 March 2012 15:10 (twelve years ago) link

As the main contribution to Zombie Lore from the series, it seemed pretty striking when I read it, but it being a bombshell (It is I think the bit mentioned above where Rick says "Don't you see, WE ARE THE WALKING DEAD (do you see)") is a bit ridiculous, like dude there are already these things called crematoriums?

Andrew Farrell, Monday, 12 March 2012 15:11 (twelve years ago) link

The scene where they find a "live" zombie hanging from a tree may be the first indicator that the living turn to zombies when they die

monkeys on the ceiling fan, ceiling fan (CaptainLorax), Monday, 12 March 2012 16:11 (twelve years ago) link

Plus having a zombie horde show up doesn't seem too unrealistic given that they already established that there is huge hordes of roamers (or whatever they're called). Also, they are still very near populous areas given their proximity to Atlanta and Peachtree City

monkeys on the ceiling fan, ceiling fan (CaptainLorax), Monday, 12 March 2012 16:18 (twelve years ago) link

yes but did they all suddenly die at once

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 12 March 2012 16:30 (twelve years ago) link

I don't know what you mean by that but it's about time we have an episode that has ten times more killing

monkeys on the ceiling fan, ceiling fan (CaptainLorax), Monday, 12 March 2012 17:31 (twelve years ago) link

maybe i should watch it again but how rotten did the horde look? could it be randall's people who were supposedly only 5 miles away, all now zombified? that would be convenient.

piggyback payoff (NZA), Monday, 12 March 2012 19:33 (twelve years ago) link

did they ever go back to what that scientist dude told rick? assume it's something to do with anyone who dies becoming a zombie.

i assumed it was either that or else he told him lori was pregnant

Return Of The Living Dead addressed that issue quite handily!

It let us have a cool scare in the barber shop if you know what I'm talking about.

Overall I enjoyed the comics a lot. Well, I've only read the first 50 or so.

I only read the first book compilation so perhaps it got better down the road but I just didn't care for it.

those of you who have read the comics please spoil me this - do the buried dead ever rise from their graves? i am a sucker for a rise-from-the-grave scene.

good season closer. felt like this show really picked up in the last 1/4 of the season, maybe dumping darabont was the right move.

akm, Monday, 19 March 2012 17:03 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, i liked it enough to watch next season.

Disappointed in the zombie attack tho. I don't think it was well choreographed. Two scenes of Herschel firing his shotgun was two too many.

I'd like to have seen them shoot the zombie attack like this (beginning at 2:50) with the
french = zombies
british = Herschel

why did all the zombies suddenly stop and walk in one direction?

also, was there a helicopter in the sky in the first scene, or was I imagining it?

akm, Monday, 19 March 2012 17:48 (twelve years ago) link

yes, there was a helo. i think it was to explain the reason the zombies took to the countryside. they followed it.

are chads electorate (brownie), Monday, 19 March 2012 17:49 (twelve years ago) link

it was a bit weird, the mass movement, and then when glenn said later "they're migrating or something".

think rick's conversion into shane II was a bit silly, and the end was a bit flat.

wtf was that hooded thing with the two human tank top zombies

its funny cuz last week i was thinking 'we're never gonna find out what the CDC guy whispered are we'

these pretzels are makeing me horney (Hungry4Ass), Monday, 19 March 2012 22:35 (twelve years ago) link

I forgot the CDC guy whispered something. This was pretty close to that scene in The Lost World: Jurassic Park where Pete Posthlewaite and his crew round up a heard of dinos.

didin't Rick say he heard a helicopter earlier in the season? back when they were gonna go to the military base (fort bragg?)

FINALLY michonne too eh. You guys are gonna catch up to the comic in like ten seasons.

And they panned up at the very end to the prison. Maybe we'll finally get lucky and get both Michonne AND Tyreese? One can hope?

I love reading the reviews of this show over at The AV Club, where people really, really want to like the show but they're appropriately skeptical as well. Great first comment on this episode: Player "HeRsHeL6969" has unlocked UNLIMITED AMMO CHEAT

Also this little run:

T-Dog :We've gotta head for the coast! It's what we should've done in the first place.

LoveWaffle: AW HELL NAW

Gale Boetticher:
Last week: AW HELL NAW!
This week: YOU MUST BE OUT YO DAMN MIND!
T-Dog spinoff series: The Walking Stereotype.

LoveWaffle: I wonder how he feels about a group of white people dragging him to a prison.

George Oscar: I sort of loved that as soon as T-Dog got two white women in a truck by himself, his solution was to basically abscond with them and ditch everyone else.

Did AVClub coin the phrase "Apocalypse Dumpling Gang?"
