The remaster sounds pretty fantastic on CD, it's tastefully done. Hope to hear the LP soon.

gotta say i'm not that into the reissue. it does sound a lot clearer but i think that basically just accentuates matt pike which pushes it into HoF hesher territory as opposed to the plodding doom territory the early mix sits comfortably in.

I only have the CD with the three-headed horse drawing. How am I doing sound/mix-wise?

Hierophantiasis (Jon Lewis), Friday, 11 May 2012 16:27 (twelve years ago) link

that list looks like a poll.

looking forward to seeing them twice this month. fuck they are so good live.

Jamie_ATP, Friday, 11 May 2012 16:28 (twelve years ago) link

I assume you mean HoF, right

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 11 May 2012 16:38 (twelve years ago) link

the first "dopesmoker" CD (three headed horse) is a different recording from the original "jerusalem" release. it is also louder and bassier than the original jerusalem release. i think it is not as "clear" in the mid- and high-range as the dopesmoker reissue, but like i said i prefer the original versions (both jerusalem and dopesmoker) to the new one

i think the one you have is actually my favorite jon

I assume Jamie means Sleep ... meaning he's going to ATP and Primavera, the lucky bastard. They *are* so good live...

Stormy Davis, Friday, 11 May 2012 17:02 (twelve years ago) link

wait Sleep has reunited?!

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 11 May 2012 17:02 (twelve years ago) link

yeah they do from time-to-time. they played a few shows in 2010

Stormy Davis, Friday, 11 May 2012 17:03 (twelve years ago) link

oh sans Hakius tho, I see

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 11 May 2012 17:03 (twelve years ago) link

Saw them two years ago at Brooklyn Masonic hall. I'm gonna invite a flaming here and say I don't like Al's sheer-rumble live sound. Call me a muso but I can see he's doing a lot of shit and I want to know what it is! Same went for the Shrinebuilder show.

Hierophantiasis (Jon Lewis), Friday, 11 May 2012 17:05 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, drummer from Neurosis drums on the live line-up. I saw them in, 2010 I guess, when they first started doing the live shows again. Bummed that I'm going to miss them this time. Positively titanic.

Matt M., Friday, 11 May 2012 17:15 (twelve years ago) link

They absolutely destroyed at Roadburn last month. I'd never seen Sleep in person before, and was floored by their two-hour set.

Ha yeah I see Alan N and myself saying the same thing there, too.

its funny that it was still crappy even when they didn't have soundboard probs

HOT LAVA MAN

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Saturday, 12 May 2012 05:10 (twelve years ago) link

man so i have to admit i'm hearing things in "jerusalem" (vs. dopesmoker) that i never heard before

i guess that's common but this just feels really stark

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Saturday, 12 May 2012 05:20 (twelve years ago) link

yo am0n i know about the sabians but they haven't put anything out since 2003 afaict? are they still going?

the late great, Saturday, 12 May 2012 05:35 (twelve years ago) link

hoos you got that in the right order? are you just now going back to jerusalem after hearing the dopesmoker reissue?

the late great, Saturday, 12 May 2012 05:47 (twelve years ago) link

idk if i have it in the right order or not--i first heard and got to know 'dopesmoker' via a download of the original mix a few years back, and that's the one that i guess is still on my hard drive. i guess i'd never really listened to jeruselam, i thought i had. damn, now i'm gonna have to go get this reissued jeruselam too.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Saturday, 12 May 2012 06:01 (twelve years ago) link

reissued dopesmoker you mean

the late great, Saturday, 12 May 2012 06:08 (twelve years ago) link

i think they do this just to fuck with stoned people

yes indeed they're doing our london atp (with Slayer and Melvins and Yob and Wolves In the Throne Room and A Storm Of Light - FUCK) and primavera barcelona. Cannot wait.

Jamie_ATP, Saturday, 12 May 2012 09:06 (twelve years ago) link

yeah they do from time-to-time. they played a few shows in 2010

played at a festival w/them in 2010 iirc & they were directly after us and opened right with a crushing Jerusalem/Dopesmoker riff section for about five min damn right I'm bragging, I got to geek out w/Pike & his son backstage afterwards

cosi fan whitford (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Saturday, 12 May 2012 09:35 (twelve years ago) link

Saw them last week and it was uniformly excellent. No trouble hearing Cisneros either. Dopesmoker and Sonic Titan were the highlights.

Don't miss them if you get the chance.

nah dude jerusalem is "the o.g." if you know what i mean ;-)

the late great, Monday, 14 May 2012 03:23 (twelve years ago) link

i heard it first too back when it came out as my mates brother bought it and he loaned me it to tape. i also have a tape recording of an interview with the band on some cable radio metal show (solar radio it was called) with the whole thing playing in the background as the band explained what happened with London Records. And i still think Dopesmoker is better ;-)
