I'm inclined to go with Chromatics - Kill for Love.
My one reservation being that it borrows so heavily from the past. Then again, that seems to be a dominant quality of our current music.

azaera, Sunday, 20 May 2012 20:17 (eleven years ago) link

good pick

J0rdan S., Sunday, 20 May 2012 20:30 (eleven years ago) link

i still don't get that rustie album

The Reverend, Sunday, 20 May 2012 20:40 (eleven years ago) link

well my three favorite albums of the 00s were probably discovery and i get wet and the best uk garage anthems in the world....ever. so its no big surprise that i enjoy metal prog-disco garage.

Kaputt

Iago Galdston, Sunday, 20 May 2012 22:37 (eleven years ago) link

for me it's still Tomorrow, In a Year

silverfish, Monday, 21 May 2012 00:36 (eleven years ago) link

I usually tend to be pretty rockiest, but my favorite could be my edit of Robyn Body Talk,

kornrulez6969, Monday, 21 May 2012 00:46 (eleven years ago) link

for me it's still Tomorrow, In a Year

Definitely a contender for me too. It's not a record I can listen to casually, on an everyday basis. I either have to set aside two hours at home or listen to it while walking through the wilderness, preferably near sea cliffs.

azaera, Monday, 21 May 2012 00:52 (eleven years ago) link

The Anika album has probably had the most impact on me so far

EMA - Past Life Martyred Saints

Look at how funky he is! (jer.fairall), Monday, 21 May 2012 04:25 (eleven years ago) link

I think. It's probably what I've listened to most. But then it did come out in January 2010, I think.

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Monday, 21 May 2012 09:03 (eleven years ago) link

Way beyond the curve these days, so don't recognise half the covers on this thread. But I will throw my hat in for Archandroid, wonderful record.

thomasintrouble, Monday, 21 May 2012 09:11 (eleven years ago) link

I might change my answer to Let England Shake actually...

That Portable album completely passed my attention - I only recgonised the name in passing from various remixes, total dilletante - but it stood out as an unusual choice on this thread and a listen tells me it's actually pretty brilliant. Not sure if I'd rate it as an album of the 10s yet but I'm expecting it to open out further and further on repeated listens.

boxedjoy, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 22:16 (eleven years ago) link

one month passes...

okay listening to the synthetic mewling sounds that close "Architect of Love" I am def thinking that Anika takes the silver and this is the best album of the decade so far:

boxedjoy, Sunday, 29 July 2012 15:45 (eleven years ago) link

Still hoping we do a "Best of ILM 2010-2014" rollout one day. No idea what my choice would be, though.

Rustie - Glass Swords
Especia - GUSTO

something like this? Kaputt is #1 all time

ufo, Saturday, 4 November 2017 15:09 (six years ago) link

one year passes...

something like

#1• Fiona Apple - The Idler Wheel... - 2012
Susanne Sundfør - Ten Love Songs - 2015
Julia Holter - Ekstasis - 2012
Janelle Monae - The ArchAndroid - 2010
My Bloody Valentine - m b v - 2013
Colin Stetson - New History Warfare Vol. 2: Judges - 2011
Ghost - Opus Eponymous - 2011
Courtney Barnett - Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit - 2015
Mock & Toof - Tuning Echoes - 2010

in my opinion 2017 was a shit year for music and then i gave up looking for new music after that. interesting seeing decades-end lists with the most recent 25% being stuff i've barely heard of.

i think i'd go with m b v, boring as i am.

je est un autre, l'enfer c'est les autres (alex in mainhattan), Sunday, 13 October 2019 16:14 (four years ago) link

I'd maybe go for something leftfield like The Lowland Hundred's Under Cambrian Sky, which is a bit like the Blue Nile on tour in the Welsh desert but not really like anything else at all.

That, or Garten der Unbewusstheit by Corrupted.

Life is a meaningless nightmare of suffering...save string (Chinaski), Sunday, 13 October 2019 16:18 (four years ago) link
