right but where would a green eyeshade dude be w/o complaining about a grasping tax authority? i really just don't buy this problem. every music fan knows british taxes were sky high in the 60s, why wouldn't lane be a 'tax exile' like everybody else? maybe cos his kids are still in school there (that was a plot point, right?)

re: Ginsburg. So great this episode. Love this guy. His whole angle was about Don (Megan "comes and goes whenever she wants" = Ginsburg realizing that Don can't own her the way he wants to = the tagline).

the show is giving many signs that ginsburg (and relations with don) is going to have many of the same characteristics as early peggy-don, but it will be interesting to see what's different -- ginsburg's leftism and the chip on his shoulder most obviously

yeah he seems resentful of wealth/ostentation, suspicious of power... kinda ambiguous politically but attitudes that are more commonly associated with the left I guess

Remember too that Roger (eventually) warned Peggy after she hired Ginsberg that his own last big hire was Pete.

yeah you have a point about this. I believe his kids are still back there (we've never seen them, I don't think?). I don't pretend to understand the arcane workings of Great Britain what with all they're chuntering and blootering wot wot

I think the allude in Season 1 to the familial connection playing a big part in it.

layne had that phone call with some sort of school master about Nigel's (or some other britisher name) tuition. Think the cost of that education happening in england is one of the things making it hard for him to keep his head above water.

i admittedly dont know much about it myself, but it seems to me that being a disgraced tax outlaw would be something unthinkable to someone of lane's station in that era.

fuck, this episode was grim. i need to go take a shower after watching this shit, damn. totally great tho. i wonder what will happen with peggy, i.e. how much of what happens to her will we see. i don't think this is a show that would be scared to let a main character disappear.

I'm confident Peggy is one character that won't happen to.

"disappear" a bit strong. but like yeah, i could see her being a lot less prominent.

what if the character of peggy disappeared from the show, but "peggy" appeared as a sort of glowing floating little angel that sat on don's shoulder and gave him guidance in times of crisis?

that way, elisabeth moss would still be on the show, and there wouldn't be any press about it.

would need to be paired with a "bad" peggy

I don't feel that Peggy was as instrumental in this season, so her character being reduced in prominence would make sense.

Time for Ginsburg to shine!

chaough said that his hire of peggy was as much about getting the dirt on don as her work itself. if she left to 'get away' from don, there's plenty of disappointment to play around with there.
