Wouldn't count on Huntelaar getting a lot of playtime though. Also because Holland won't survive the group stage tbh.― HO WBEAUTIFUL IS THE GENTLYFALLINGBLOOD? (Le Bateau Ivre), Sunday, 3 June 2012 23:19 (6 days ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

Best player in Europe vs some not very good players?
xxxp

Several of the best players in Europe just failed to turn over Denmark, this tournament could be a victory for dogged antifootball yet.
― Matt DC, Saturday, 9 June 2012 17:58 (eleven years ago) link
Not sure germany is the game where you take a defensive midfielder out of the side 'arry
― pandemic, Saturday, 9 June 2012 17:59 (eleven years ago) link

Seedorf just completely blanked Lineker's request to detail his own personal history of inter-team racist abuse on national TV. Nicely done.

Is hummels starting? He better be.
― pandemic, Saturday, 9 June 2012 18:04 (eleven years ago) link
All in the head, that game. Krohn-Dehli's not that great a player, Wigan-level perhaps, but he was so much more composed than the Dutch. They just seemed... it was like, one or two things started going against them, then their sense of injustice kicks in - constant gesticulation, yelling, sulking almost. Like they were waiting for the universe to even it up for them or something. Sneijder stayed classy all night, but Robben - god, he'd be such a great player if he wasn't such an utter bell-end.

Picked a bad night to go for a meal with my wife. I shall record this and attempt a Likely Lads score avoidance strategy.

Postiga is still going to be Portugal CF come France 2016 isn't he? Probably Quatar 2022 as well.
― pandemic, Saturday, 9 June 2012 18:14 (eleven years ago) link
Could we do a Problem Positions XI? Lampard & Gerrard in the central midfield berths.
― Ismael Klata, Saturday, 9 June 2012 18:18 (eleven years ago) link
I think LB would be 3/4 of the teams at the tournament.
― pandemic, Saturday, 9 June 2012 18:20 (eleven years ago) link
i think Holland just looked bad out there today tbh, rvp and robben esp.
― Michael B Higgins (Michael B), Saturday, 9 June 2012 18:26 (eleven years ago) link
Denmark didn't really stop Holland playing, Holland just stopped Holland scoring.

Wesley Sneijder created 10 goalscoring chances for #NED v #DEN - no player has created more in a Euro Finals game between 1980-2012.
― Number None, Saturday, 9 June 2012 18:28 (eleven years ago) link
and it was his birthday today!

Of all the players's faces you could zoom in on, why Mesut Ozil? He looks like Peter Lorre.
― William Bloody Swygart, Saturday, 9 June 2012 18:43 (eleven years ago) link
loew's outfit for this tournament had better not be the simple white shirt thing.
― Merdeyeux, Saturday, 9 June 2012 18:43 (eleven years ago) link
What would you like him to wear?
― Ismael Klata, Saturday, 9 June 2012 18:44 (eleven years ago) link
Nonsense from the guardian match report
Denmark supplied the first shock of Euro 2012 with a convincing win over a surprisingly passive Holland, who will need to sort out their supply line to Robin van Persie if they are to have any chance against Portugal or Germany, let alone justify their billing among the favourites for the tournament.
Not that much wrong with the supply line if Sneijder creates 10 chances. He's just like Stewart Downing ;)

Assuming it's bailout business. They'll probably give Ireland/Greece/Spain the same if they run into them at any point.
"Nationalmannschaft" - not a phrase Guy Mowbray should really be trying to pronounce, then.
