Was just thinking how tyldsley reminds me of Partridge. Total lack of self awareness plus that forced nasal tone.

With benzema playing so deep france may as well play him behind giroud instead of as a lone CF

pandemic, Monday, 11 June 2012 16:26 (eleven years ago) link

Why do England play like completing passes isn't important?

Popture, Monday, 11 June 2012 16:26 (eleven years ago) link

At this train pace I should be home for 7. Think i'll miss anything?

Merdeyeux, Monday, 11 June 2012 16:26 (eleven years ago) link

relatively speaking this is a passing masterclass from england
xp

pandemic, Monday, 11 June 2012 16:27 (eleven years ago) link

England look decent getting it forward, France look like they're running out of ideas a little. Wouldn't like to call this right now.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 11 June 2012 16:29 (eleven years ago) link

great ball & header

Number None, Monday, 11 June 2012 16:32 (eleven years ago) link

tbh this reminds me most of England beating Germany at Euro 2004

2000

Ismael Klata, Monday, 11 June 2012 16:33 (eleven years ago) link

England already doing better than the Dutch there.

StanM, Monday, 11 June 2012 16:34 (eleven years ago) link

Tyldsley not so much tempting fate as standing naked on a mountain, covered in warpaint, challenging the cosmos to deny an England win.

England get lucky.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 11 June 2012 16:39 (eleven years ago) link

that was coming - England getting deeper and deeper trying to protect the 1-0

a permanent embarrassment and an occasional disgrace (onimo), Monday, 11 June 2012 16:39 (eleven years ago) link

england's keeper is a ponce

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 June 2012 16:40 (eleven years ago) link

that was a good goal tho, on the header

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 June 2012 16:40 (eleven years ago) link

He is a ponce though - very dodgy half from the best keeper in the world

Ismael Klata, Monday, 11 June 2012 16:42 (eleven years ago) link

going for a nap because im embarrassed about my provincial england-hating and close to apoplectic listening to some of this commentary. keep calm and get yersel tae fuck.

tell it to my arse (jim in glasgow), Monday, 11 June 2012 16:42 (eleven years ago) link

also this is p boring.

tell it to my arse (jim in glasgow), Monday, 11 June 2012 16:43 (eleven years ago) link

damn, since when does england have the best keeper in the world? i need to read more

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 June 2012 16:44 (eleven years ago) link

England midfielders passing the ball to each other seems to have stopped completely since their goal.

a permanent embarrassment and an occasional disgrace (onimo), Monday, 11 June 2012 16:44 (eleven years ago) link

since next neversday xp

Steve Youngblood (dan m), Monday, 11 June 2012 16:45 (eleven years ago) link

They don't really xp - it's just something I've noticed creeping into the media the last couple of months, like Buffon, Casillas et al just suddenly stopped existing

Ismael Klata, Monday, 11 June 2012 16:47 (eleven years ago) link

oh lol, okay -- sorry

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 June 2012 16:47 (eleven years ago) link

Buffon and Casillas have never won The Best League In The World iirc

a permanent embarrassment and an occasional disgrace (onimo), Monday, 11 June 2012 16:48 (eleven years ago) link

whatever happened to robert green anyway?

Steve Youngblood (dan m), Monday, 11 June 2012 16:50 (eleven years ago) link

that was...ok from England. pleased for Joleon. Hart is a wanker. think part of the problem is that with Gerrard and Parker screening the back 4, one of them needs to take the ball forward and link the forwards more. but i'm actually kind of impressed that Gerrard's had the discipline to play deeper.

technical shortcomings of the players as a whole v. much in evidence. France aren't all that. neither of these wd compete with the better teams in the tournament i don't think.

commentary = obnoxious. cunts singing "God Save the Queen" = obnoxious.

Hart is the best England gk in many years and possibly world class but not best in the world.

England looked good for about 20mins but I assume that's it for the tournament now.

nah that seems fair but partly cos our goalkeeping standards have declined. unsighted or not you don't get beat on yr near post like that.

'Last Moments Robot' Comforts You To Death (Noodle Vague), Monday, 11 June 2012 17:00 (eleven years ago) link

Not a greatly entertaining match so far tbh. Sloppy from both sides, France disappoint me.

England play a pretty good passing game when they're moving the ball through the midfield from the srtikers back to the defenders.

Mexican wave again :(

a permanent embarrassment and an occasional disgrace (onimo), Monday, 11 June 2012 17:11 (eleven years ago) link

they bloody love a Mexican wave at this tournament

Number None, Monday, 11 June 2012 17:16 (eleven years ago) link

can I just say it's v weird to my ears to hear it called "mexican"

Steve Youngblood (dan m), Monday, 11 June 2012 17:17 (eleven years ago) link

or, rather, weird to my eyes to see

Steve Youngblood (dan m), Monday, 11 June 2012 17:18 (eleven years ago) link

started being called that (outside the US) after the Mexico World Cup in '86

England are playing well, in a kinda South Korea way.

Matt DC, Monday, 11 June 2012 17:22 (eleven years ago) link

Disappointed with France tbh. They're not very good.
