Maybe this has already been mentioned, and we are getting ahead of ourselves here, but if England and France (say) end up with identical records in this group, it comes down to the UEFA National Coefficients Table, and this seems to be the latest one:

So England would get third?

HAHA

I see what you've done there.

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 09:56 (eleven years ago) link

"Agincourt, Waterloo and now Donetsk."

Uhhhhhhh, so that was England v. France at Waterloo was it? Don't know for sure, but I imagine there were also Scots at Agincourt... fighting for France.

I'm with (Big) Patrick (Vieira) in expressing astonishment that anyone would think this French side are anything special - they've got Florent Malouda in the side for a start - they look like a bunch of lightweights to me.

'i thought he would work at Chelsea and was quite disappointed by the way he faded out'

eh, I said this a year ago and you said'beginning to slow and not so much of a thread outside the box ... an overripe vanity purchase for abramovich.'

boxall, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 13:32 (eleven years ago) link

Well that turned out really good. I'm glad (apologies to sonderangerbot)

no worries, i'm happy for sheva too tbh. our defending on set pieces has been a joke for a long time and he did well to pick up on that. it's just that leading up to the euros there's been all this talk of a new confidence and a more attack-minded approach etc, and even if i knew this was all nonsense, i was at least hoping for little more than a sub-lagerbäck performance.

sonderangerbot, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 14:12 (eleven years ago) link

did you watch shevchenko in 05/06? he had become an rvn/inzaghi type of player, a lethal finisher (scored 4 vs galatasaray iirc) but was beginning to slow and not so much of a threat outside the box....rvn moved in the right direction that summer, sheva made an overripe vanity purchase for abramovich

there isn't a contradiction, £30m was an awful lot of money for a 30 year old forward with injury problems but he nonetheless ought to have been capable of scoring 15 epl goals a season for two or three years

he suddenly lost his lethal finishing which was quite inexplicable, and it was even worse when he moved back to milan

him moving back to milan was the saddest part of it all, had forgotten about that.

Wee Gordon saying it took him two years to work out Sami's best position - and still he gets it wrong.

who should be subbed out first for ninis/fetfatzidis? samaras?

ogmor, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 15:46 (eleven years ago) link

Nothing wrong with supporting your country but we now have ITV showing footage of Zlatan having his thigh strapped and saying "let's hope that's worse than it looks."

Fuck these clowns.

a permanent embarrassment and an occasional disgrace (onimo), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 15:51 (eleven years ago) link

Obviously Salpingidis gets the start after Friday. Fortounis showed the odd evidence of ability last season for kaiserslautern tho it was hard to tell cos 'lautern were so wretched.

czech rep playing the DM Hubschman that they didn't bother with against Russia? I'd have thought he would have been more necessary in that game than this.

Stay classy ITV.

who should be subbed out first for ninis/fetfatzidis? samaras?

Depends how it's going - they may move Samaras out wide when it goes wrong rather than sub him off. He's never really a goal threat but on his game things kind of happen around him - that's why I disagree with Strachan, I'd never have him as the point man in attack (unless I was looking for a boring "Rangers away in Europe in 2008" type performance where I didn't necessarily want to score).

samaras is going to have to take care of gebre-selassie too, but hardly feel he is the man to pin him back

There are fears of trouble during the march, given the historic rivalry between the two countries.

is it me or is "rivalry" not the best word to describe the historical relationship between Poland and Russia?

Clashes have broken out in the Polish capital Warsaw as rival Russian and Polish football fans gather for a Euro 2012 match between the two teams.

Thousands of Russian fans staged a march to mark their national day and missiles were thrown.
