The final's in Ukraine at least, I don't think Russia's hated there even in the west. The team is highly likeable too, I feel that should make a difference.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acromegaly

The glinting eyes of the hereditary syphilitic (also syphilitic in his own right), the illiterate day-laborer’s jaws, the rachitic acromegalic face already filled the pages of Italia Illustrata

as carlo gadda described alberto aquilani's favourite train timetable reformer

Did the paperbag guy donate his unwanted cuttings to the man on that acromegaly page?

I hear Chelsea are interested in this guy

Noticing that in commentaries on matches involving Greece, the usual Greek mythological references trotted out by commentators are in danger of being superseded by Euro crisis ones

Tom D (Tom D.), Wednesday, 13 June 2012 13:08 (eleven years ago) link

Maybe they are just giving you a minor tour of the greece's economic labyrinth?

twp seems notably less hateful these days, almost subdued, compared to terry he might as well be raoul wallenberg

i suppose you could cast aspersions on his open infelidities with whores, but then the unconscious implication that his bling-draped wife is no different is bitterly amusing

it's hardly his fault english hacks build him up as something beyond his actual talents

too cool graham rix listening to neu (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 13 June 2012 13:14 (eleven years ago) link

it's hardly his fault english hacks build him up as something beyond his actual talents

This applies to the entire England squad tho

Tom D (Tom D.), Wednesday, 13 June 2012 13:16 (eleven years ago) link

yeah but twp seems notably less hubristic about it than the others

even when he had to be shoved out wide to accomodate ronaldo, he seemed to realize that that was a fair reflection on their relative talents

he doesn't seem as deluded as the rest of the golden generation, i don't remember him saying anything nearly as risible as gerrard claiming joe cole is better than messi

Wesley Sneijder has hit out at the "pathetic egos" inside the Holland squad as they prepare to face Germany on Wednesday night. The Dutch lost their opening game against Denmark and desperately need a result against one of the pre-tournament favourites if they are not to face an early exit.

But, as has happened so often in the past with the Dutch team, their preparations for an important game has been disrupted by disharmony in the squad and Sneijder has now voiced his displeasure with the situation. "It is time we let go of these pathetic egos," he said. "If somebody is creating a mess [within the squad], I will stand up against them.

thankfully wes 'give me £250k a week and a private plane' sneijder is there to sort out all of the egos

So the usually best informed journalists think Holland will play Kuyt instead of Afellay and see Matthijsen return at the back. The latter is obvious, but Kuyt... The logic would be that he can stop off Lahm better than Afellay. Which is true, but we also lose any creativity we had on the right wing. And no Huntelaar... Ffs.

NV, sad but true. While it should be "we want to fucking win".

Depends though, if Denmark draw with Portugal, Holland need a win.

PORTUGAL: Rui Patricio; Joao Pereira, Bruno Alves, Pepe, Fabio Coentrao; Miguel Veloso, Joao Moutinho, Raul Meireles; Nani, Helder Postiga, Cristiano Ronaldo

DENMARK: Andersen; Jacobsen, Kjaer, Agger, S. Poulsen; Kvist, Zimling, Rommedahl, Eriksen, Krohn-Dehli; Bendtner

I feel like this portugal side should be really solid through the middle and exciting on the wings, but then there's helder postiga.

mizzell, Wednesday, 13 June 2012 15:46 (eleven years ago) link

I always liked Hugo Almeida at Werder Bremen and it appears he's been scoring for Besiktas as well, they should give him a shot.

Read yesterday that the Oranje were using Kuyt at RB in training, as I believe was proposed for Liverpool in the past, with RVP left and KJH up top. But I'll trust LBI's sources.

boxall, Wednesday, 13 June 2012 16:14 (eleven years ago) link
