Don tells Peggy at the movies that when you help someone they succeed and move on. I thought Don was disappointed with Megan and falling out of love with her, but now I see him afraid of losing her to her career.

this is totally otm by the way. didn't occur to me that Don's feeling about Megan trying to find career success apart from him would also be wrapped up in his ... loneliness? ... after Peggy left the company

Don says something to Peggy like, "I knew you'd succeed, I just thought it would be with me." He could almost deliver the exact same line to Megan.

dmr, Wednesday, 13 June 2012 20:59 (eleven years ago) link

well, Megan IS succeeding with Don - without him she was failing!

a dense custard of infinity (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 13 June 2012 21:01 (eleven years ago) link

remember that in the middle of megan's tantrum she basically just called her mother a failure.

Children being cruel to their parents is WAY more forgivable than the other way round.

what a great last couple eps guys!

they're totally doing the sopranos thing - climax in the penultimate ep, last one is for the comedown.

http://video.vulture.com/video/A-Death-Foretold-Foreshadowing

some parts of that video are a stretch but the compilation of all the shots of characters "lying in state" throughout the season is neat

dmr, Thursday, 14 June 2012 16:50 (eleven years ago) link

hmm yeah some of that is grasping a bit, but the lying-in-state thing at the end is v interesting

thinking back, i think the only thing that didnt really satisfy me about the way this wrapped up was the pete/gilmore girl storyline. it was just such a romance-novel melodramatic situation... one last night before she forgets me forever... i dunno

brony ver (s1ocki), Thursday, 14 June 2012 17:03 (eleven years ago) link

I sort of didn't care about it myself

altho it led to the fight on the train, which was A+ awesome

a dense custard of infinity (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 14 June 2012 17:04 (eleven years ago) link

ya and pete campbell getting socked twice in the season was great

― brony ver (s1ocki)

i think if they'd actually made it out to be a "romance" that it would annoy me, but as it was just a way to display how much of a miserable, void pete is i sort of enjoyed it. tho found it somewhat contrived.

dan selzer, Thursday, 14 June 2012 17:42 (eleven years ago) link

yeah, I was wondering about that myself. Does electroshock therapy actually work that way?

silverfish, Thursday, 14 June 2012 17:46 (eleven years ago) link

That's possible, but it doesn't matter a whole lot since she'll probably never be seen again and Pete is getting his city fuck pad.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 14 June 2012 17:46 (eleven years ago) link

the irony of trudy acceding to his desire for an apartment in the city is that he no longer wants it. i don't think we're going to see him turning into don.

memory loss is a possible side effect of ECT it seems, yes. Less so nowadays; the techniques for administering ECT have changed a lot.
