the guy im on about is a geordie guy, prone to strange metaphors and similes of his own devising, very effusive about good passages of play.

I wish Mexès had done some kind of cheesy French pop song so you could be 'Mexès chanson massacre'.

Zucht.

read a comment upthread as:

Who thinks Geir vs Ned will be this entertaining?

Merdeyeux, Thursday, 14 June 2012 01:43 (eleven years ago) link

Geir's technical rigidity will be a hindrance but can Ned cease trying to wink the ball into the net?

Asked about the Messi chants, Ronaldo said: "You know where he was at this time [last year]? Do you know? He was being eliminated in the Copa America, in his own country. I think that's worse, no?"

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 14 June 2012 10:18 (eleven years ago) link

I like to think his bottom lip was stuck out when he said that.

pandemic, Thursday, 14 June 2012 10:23 (eleven years ago) link

I feel a wee bit sorry for him (while still lolling away), he scores like a bazillion goals and people talk as if he's pish because he doesn't quite match up to the best player in the world.

Everyone takes so much pleasure in him fucking up. Hardly anyone does that with Messi (though that's maybe because he only fucks up against Chelsea).

That said, the second big chance he missed in that second half had me flashing back to Harard Brattbakk at Celtic so it must fall into the serious fuck up bracket.

hipster Jubilee party (onimo), Thursday, 14 June 2012 10:37 (eleven years ago) link

I do too; especially as that's *so* not the line to take on Messi, particularly when Holland may yet dump your ass out of the competition on Sunday.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 14 June 2012 10:40 (eleven years ago) link

it's pretty obvious why everyone hates him in comparison to Messi. It's alright though, I still love him

Number None, Thursday, 14 June 2012 10:43 (eleven years ago) link

there's a churlishness to a lot of the Cronaldo knocking but i've got to say he's never helped to endear himself to non-fans of his club/nation. if Messi doesn't get the same stick it's partly because he's a lot more reserved.

Mexès Coleslaw Massacre (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 14 June 2012 10:44 (eleven years ago) link

he doesn't even endear himself to fans of his club/nation half of the time

Number None, Thursday, 14 June 2012 10:47 (eleven years ago) link

tbh i'm not really sure why his mishaps make me lol so much. He's obviously a great player and the stick he gets for 'sins' like diving or pouting are things that I don't really care about. He was one of the few players I liked at Utd, and I LOVED the wink. I think I mainly automatically want bad things to befall him 'cos he plays for Mourinho's Madrid.

pandemic, Thursday, 14 June 2012 10:49 (eleven years ago) link

yeah i resent his Madridness much more than i ever hated him for being at United

Mexès Coleslaw Massacre (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 14 June 2012 10:52 (eleven years ago) link

Also I guess Messi's reserve is kinda how I'd like to imagine I would conduct myself if I were one of the 2 best footballers in the world. In reality if I were as talented as Ronaldo and had his looks I'd no doubt be 10x as obnoxious.

pandemic, Thursday, 14 June 2012 10:52 (eleven years ago) link

Strangely I didn't find myself wanting bad things to happen to Ozil or Khedira yesterday so I'm going to put it down to Ronaldo just being a cock. I mean there are obviously worse human beings in football but Ronaldo is such an obliging hate figure due to being such a ponce.

Matt DC, Thursday, 14 June 2012 10:54 (eleven years ago) link

I'm 100% sure he doesn't give a shit about being hated either. He probably likes it actually

Number None, Thursday, 14 June 2012 10:58 (eleven years ago) link

his looks?

Rosie 47 (ken c), Thursday, 14 June 2012 11:05 (eleven years ago) link

the looks of envy, mockery and contempt from random people around him

too cool graham rix listening to neu (nakhchivan), Thursday, 14 June 2012 11:06 (eleven years ago) link

Ronaldo, a stupid, petulant, creep. The most famous and rich representative of things people hate about football. Still harsh on him though, he is one among many.

too cool graham rix listening to neu (nakhchivan), Thursday, 14 June 2012 11:08 (eleven years ago) link

is there a particular department where he's the worst example of?

diving: there are worse offenders?
fannydangler: seems quite effective given the amount of goals he scores?
racism: has he been outed yet?
prostitution: i forget or is it just the other ronaldo?

maybe petulance? I dunno.

he always seem like actually quite a nice person in comparison to many others. but unlikeable definitely.

Today, Dunphy generally resides at his home near Ranelagh village in Dublin. He also owns a holiday home in Deauville, France.[2]

Dunphy married RTÉ Commissioning Editor Jane Gogan, his partner of 18 years, at the Unitarian Church on St Stephen's Green on 24 September 2009.[20]

yeah i wasn't saying there's any truth in them. i know her daughter actually. for a long time a friend of mine was trying to persuade her to get eamon to come for a beer. she acted like it was possible and he might but it never happened.
