This is more risible than Greece last night considering the players France have available.

i'm comin round to the hatin spain thing tbh, they're as defensive/conservative as anyone in their own way.

irrational angst that makes me innocuously thingy (darraghmac), Saturday, 23 June 2012 19:27 (eleven years ago) link

I dunno, it's hardly their fault nobody ever plays them straight up, although Italy did in game 1 and it was good stuff.

pandemic, Saturday, 23 June 2012 19:29 (eleven years ago) link

Think Torres could do some damage if it's still 1-0 after an hour.

pandemic, Saturday, 23 June 2012 19:30 (eleven years ago) link

when they get in behind a team and then cut back, prioritising possession over catching their opponents unbalanced, it's murder to watch

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 23 June 2012 19:36 (eleven years ago) link

This will finish 3-0

Nessun Biscotto (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Saturday, 23 June 2012 19:37 (eleven years ago) link

italy played counterattack, not hammer and tongs tbf

It's more that spain don't try to advance or score but maybe one in ten times they could. It's.....dishonest football. Not advocating epl rush style but i can't get behind this.

irrational angst that makes me innocuously thingy (darraghmac), Saturday, 23 June 2012 19:38 (eleven years ago) link

i love it

ogmor, Saturday, 23 June 2012 19:38 (eleven years ago) link

Malouda on that goal!!!

pandemic, Saturday, 23 June 2012 19:39 (eleven years ago) link

I think it's up to the other teams, a lot of which have some pretty terrific players, to work out how to put Spain under pressure rather than Spain change their style. I prefer watching Germany but I have no problems with Spain playing like this.

pandemic, Saturday, 23 June 2012 19:42 (eleven years ago) link

spain are so extreme idk why you would want anything else

ogmor, Saturday, 23 June 2012 19:46 (eleven years ago) link

the same thing about usain bolt pulling up i spose, wouldya just go for it kinda thing, aren't you even curious about your ability?

irrational angst that makes me innocuously thingy (darraghmac), Saturday, 23 June 2012 19:48 (eleven years ago) link

How many times has Townsend said "bettah, bettah..." in this game. What a dick.

ooooiiiioooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaoooooh un - bi - leevable! (LocalGarda), Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:02 (eleven years ago) link

this is getting very good

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:02 (eleven years ago) link

xp And why has he suddenly started saying "big" instead of high?

Temporarily Famous In The Czech Republic (ShariVari), Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:03 (eleven years ago) link

oh ffs karim

Smothered, Covered and Chunked!!! (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:04 (eleven years ago) link

Ooh, so close

Nessun Biscotto (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:05 (eleven years ago) link

this game is kinda shitty

even if spain are some big possession enigma robot and france are kinda thinking about maybe sending one or two players to possibly go for it, there is nothing of actual interest really going on

Smothered, Covered and Chunked!!! (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:16 (eleven years ago) link

^ otm

Nessun Biscotto (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:18 (eleven years ago) link

Spain stubbornly trying to go for their 5th straight 1-0 knockout win.

pandemic, Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:18 (eleven years ago) link

France bringing on a striker who doesn't mind getting in the box? Madness.

pandemic, Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:19 (eleven years ago) link

Still in the lower reaches of the Klata Scale offside or not.

pandemic, Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:21 (eleven years ago) link

Substitutions have wrecked this a bit. It could really do with extra time.

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:22 (eleven years ago) link

Extra time with France having taken off M'Villa may be better. But I've got to get up for work in 3 hrs so screw that.

pandemic, Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:23 (eleven years ago) link

france are shit, good riddance imo.

sonderangerbot, Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:24 (eleven years ago) link

OTM

pandemic, Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:27 (eleven years ago) link

This is dreadful

Nessun Biscotto (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:29 (eleven years ago) link

soft as shit

Smothered, Covered and Chunked!!! (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:31 (eleven years ago) link

Spain may spoil their 1-0 scoreline.

pandemic, Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:31 (eleven years ago) link

cert penalty tbf

irrational angst that makes me innocuously thingy (darraghmac), Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:32 (eleven years ago) link

no penalty, but deserved win anyway. about as clinical as Greece, Spain

Ludo, Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:32 (eleven years ago) link

France not much better than 2010. Zizou must be embarrassed to watch.

pandemic, Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:33 (eleven years ago) link

this may be the worst game of the tournament. and i've watched england.

Smothered, Covered and Chunked!!! (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:33 (eleven years ago) link

Doubt Spurs are still considering Blanc after this tourney.

pandemic, Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:34 (eleven years ago) link

Definitely the worst game of the tournament

Nessun Biscotto (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:36 (eleven years ago) link

terrible game really

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:36 (eleven years ago) link

how can that not be a penalty?

irrational angst that makes me innocuously thingy (darraghmac), Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:36 (eleven years ago) link

france/england mb shaded it for slow motion edge of penalty area exhaustion

ogmor, Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:38 (eleven years ago) link

didn't see France-Sweden but it sounded pretty bad too

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:40 (eleven years ago) link

yeah, even missed first goal, so 70ish minutes of abject tedium

I'm not going leftfield on you... (hypehat), Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:42 (eleven years ago) link

Great among a sewer of a game. All QFs have been so one-sided, hopefully tomorrow will be a classic.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:44 (eleven years ago) link

just j/k btw

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:44 (eleven years ago) link

Haha, just logged into Facebook and my old English teacher's posted a photo of him with Xabi Alonso from a few years ago, titled "Well done Xabi!" Two absolute legends.

Forget vuvuzelas there is surely no more irritating sound in football than Clive Tyldesley's pronunciation of "Clichy"

it looks like something rupert the bear would wear (Algerian Goalkeeper), Sunday, 24 June 2012 10:06 (eleven years ago) link

How about when he said: "And who were the last team to beat Spain? England!" in this weird, strangled voice?

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 24 June 2012 10:07 (eleven years ago) link

Well, there's Adrian Chiles for a start (xp)

Too Busy Thinking About Mr. Abie (Tom D.), Sunday, 24 June 2012 10:17 (eleven years ago) link

LOL Keano, "Spain v. Germany, that's the final we all want to see"

Too Busy Thinking About Mr. Abie (Tom D.), Sunday, 24 June 2012 10:18 (eleven years ago) link

Chiles was particularly awful last night. The perplexing thing is that it's essentially the same banter I used to like on motd2.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 24 June 2012 10:31 (eleven years ago) link

His "Ooooh Roy Keane, you are scary" shtick is particurly irksome, a second after the final finishes Kean should tell him to stick his bollocks up his arse and walk out
