Phil Brown on 5Live last night wondering why German's and Italian's don't seem to come and play in the Prem.
"You look at Pirlo and wonder for the life of you why he's not come to England, is he um homophobic...".
I'm not sure that's really the term you were looking for Phil.

We lost to a better team, not a world-class team, an ordinary Italian team; with the exception of Andrea Pirlo I wouldn’t have swapped a single player for any of ours.

the contempt for reason is so extreme it is just
an entire team outplays another team and that is down to the one player who they have already heard of, it's like every player other than pirlo (and balotelli) does not really exist, the rest of the world is just a fungible collection of anonymous foreigns who just randomly coagulate into teams to play england every few years
― dis civilization and its contents (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 26 June 2012 10:44 (eleven years ago) link
And, while we're at it, why won't the Scots, Welsh, Norn Irish just get behind the British team

yeah i did figure xenophobic as well. still, INCREDIBLY thick mistake to make, surely the word "homophobic" is ubiquitous now.
bright has a long history of saying dumb shit, he confused ireland and northern ireland last year then made it signifcantly more dumb when he got annoyed with people tweeting complaints at him, in a sort of "what's the difference anyway???! chill out!" way.

Balotelli plays in the Premiership therefore he is obv. Italy's best player. Bit like when Freddie Ljungberg was the obv. the best player in a Swedish team that included Zlatan AND Henrik Larsson.
― Too Busy Thinking About Mr. Abie (Tom D.), Tuesday, 26 June 2012 11:50 (eleven years ago) link
i think andy carroll's got the makings of a particularly effective centre forward in him.

1. Half the Italy team plays for Juve, who didn't even make it into the Europa. If most English journo knowledge comes from the CL (unless a team beats Utd in the Europa), it isn't exactly surprising they don't know these guys, even if it is frustrating.
2. With an Italian Chelsea manager and an exotic Italian team (see #1) knocking England out, the Daily Mail and the Sun are going to write soooooooo many shitty false transfer stories about Montilivo or whoever going to Chelsea.
