Work stress here, too, have several kinda mission critical (to them) customers who have vbeen screaming blue murder at me about internet LIFE OR DEATH OMG aaaand now I have to tell them T3lstra have completely rejected the relocation order because the buildin, 1 block up the road from their old bldg, can only get 4mb speed instead of 10. FFS. When is the NBN getting finished already. I am so sick of this mess of patchy shit.

NBN is fucked. Only coolsie (presumably Labor haven) suburbs are even planned at all at this stage.

It will cost a lot for the rollout of the infrastructure, but Im sure the electricity grid and rail network did, as well. Thats the level this is at - its not just some random new internet, its a whole new base infrastructure for what we'll run all of our phone and 'net services over when its done. Copper is shitty and breaks easily - fibre is pretty much endlessly upgradeable. It'll mean fast data which can have great practical applications for education, for remote off-site medical analysis (see a GP without having to actually go to one!), on-demand delivery of TV and movies, and most of all, 3829472857 times more reliable internet services for all of us. We're livin in the fucking dark ages data-wise, I dont understand why anyone would be agin' it.
As to why its only rolled out in Brunswick and Ballarat is the other area, Brunny was the trial area, a lot of the rest of melb is rolling out next year, but there's been some recent grumblings from some of the contractors cos the deployment's been taking too long which costs them money while they wait.

xxxxxxxp YES
― undermikey: bidness (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 27 June 2012 06:14 (eleven years ago) link
And the costs will be comparable to current internet planz, you'd just go buy a link at whatev speed and data u want from the same ISPs you do now (iinet, node etc etc).
― Pureed Moods (Trayce), Wednesday, 27 June 2012 06:15 (eleven years ago) link
a lot of the rest of melb is rolling out next year,
http://nbnco.com.au/rollout/rollout-map.html
^ According to this we can not even expect work to begin in (y)our (my folks, adam, you) area within three years, and that's assuming it's on time and underbudget like every other government project.

Yeah some areas its 12 months and some 3 years. Melb's actually one of the last places getting rollout, for some reason. Maybe they just figure we've already mostly got dece DSL, so we can wait (areas that have fuckall will get NBN quicker which is why Tassie was first)

Mongs, I broke the glass carafe on me mam's Sunbeam 'Coffeemaster' drip coffee maker type thing. I wondered if anyone's passing an op-shop could they have a look in and send me a photo of any likely candidates for replacement?
It says 'Model No. PC - H' on the back, classic 70's white/cream/brown styling.
and no, "I broke the glass carafe on me mam's Sunbeam 'Coffeemaster' drip coffee maker type thing" is not the name of my dog.
