Carl and Je55e you need to see this Carrie ripoff tv movie called THE SPELLhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmPuzCcWlN0&feature=related
― nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Friday, 29 June 2012 15:47 (eleven years ago) link
it is on netflix streaming too
haha The Thnig is already on the (our) case about watching this. Also: the "this" logo in the corner is all the evidence I need that The Spell is a quality movie.

You will like it, I assure you.

1. I started reading Bring Up the Bodies, book two of Hillary Mantel's Wolf Hall trilogy and it is fantastic. If you liked Wolf Hall, I highly highly recommend this book.
2. Mostly for askance johnson, but maybe not - the old time horror radio show podcast that I like presented an episode of a program The Black Mass that is an adaptation of Kafka's, "A Country Doctor" and it is really weird. I mean, the story is really weird, and adapting it into a radio play is really really weird, IMO.

hmmm, I'll check out the kafka thing, though I remember reading that story ~10 years ago, and finding it totally impenetrable.
It's just about Thor time.
― i invented steampunk (askance johnson), Friday, 29 June 2012 19:12 (eleven years ago) link
It's no less impenetrable as a radio play. I'm not really sure I'm recommending it, to tell you the truth. I just thought it was an odd choice for a radio adaptation.
THOR TIME!!! :D

I also meant to say also that the radio play is an almost verbatim read of the story from what I can tell. It's not like hearing the murmurs of the villagers in the background while the doctor ponders the meaning of the patient's wounds or wonders what happened to his horses adds a whole lot of clarity.

i've been reading these gillian flynn mystery novels. i don't know if they're good exactly but they're pretty addictive, i've read two of them in two days each. also pretty dark.

hey n/a i am finally watching damagesare you happy now?
― nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Friday, 29 June 2012 19:27 (eleven years ago) link
yes. but mainly because i get out of work in half an hour.
― congratulations (n/a), Friday, 29 June 2012 19:28 (eleven years ago) link
i'm currently in season 2, still pretty good but honestly i am enjoying the frequent appearances of rose byrne's lower frontal snaggletooth almost as much as the plot and katie's frequent hairstyle changes

I've only read one Gillian Flynn book so far (Sharp Objects) but I've got Dark Places read to roll when I finish Bring Up the Bodies. Sharp Objects was dark as hell! I am usually pretty enthralled by dark dark books, but there were times when I was kind of upset about it. Ct read Sharp Objects and said it was even darker.
― carl agatha, Friday, 29 June 2012 19:30 (eleven years ago) link
i read the new one ("gone girl") first and then "sharp objects" and the former was considerably less dark than the latter so you might want to check out the new one. started "dark places" this morning.
― congratulations (n/a), Friday, 29 June 2012 19:38 (eleven years ago) link
Kr ~loved~ Gone Girl. She said that at first she was put off by its genre trappings but then got really sucked into it.
I really want to see S4 of Damages, but we have something else out from Netflix right now (I forget what).
Leaving for Madison in a couple of hours!

i've talked about this before but: i love mysteries but i hate that all mystery books are part of series - hardly anyone publishes stand-alone mystery novels. i don't want the responsibility of a whole series, knowing which one comes first, etc. if only stand-alone mysteries were published, that would be all i read.
have i seen damages s4? i don't remember! maybe there's a season we haven't watched yet!
― congratulations (n/a), Friday, 29 June 2012 19:45 (eleven years ago) link
gone girl is pretty ridiculous but that did not stop me from thoroughly enjoying it

Have you read Tana French? (I know Sarah has.) Her books are related to each other, but not in a series.
― carl agatha, Friday, 29 June 2012 19:48 (eleven years ago) link
yeah i like her stuff too, though the newest one wasn't quite as good
― congratulations (n/a), Friday, 29 June 2012 19:49 (eleven years ago) link
It just came out on DVD this week, so unless you have DirecTV or have illegally streamed it, then you haven't seen it.

I never pictured Thor in flat-front trousers and 1 1/2 inch dressy heels.

Or really even sleeves, for that matter. But maybe there's a lot about Thor that I don't know.

Season 3? I was just looking for a site where I could watch it. Only 1 and 2 are up on Netflix.
Also was looking for a place to watch Lost Highway without a lot of hassle or waiting, but no luck.
Cool 'ning tonight but the storm has been holding off for a long time.

Hey Jordan -- sorry I didn't really say goodbye on Friday! We made it an early night. And then on Saturday afternoon we drove to Yellowstone Lake State Park (about 50 miles southwest), where we stayed for the night, so our time in Madison was abbreviated. The music sounded pretty good, though.

There were trees down in my neighborhood, including a big one on Ravenswood at Montrose. Until I heard that it had stormed, I assumed it was part of the weekend work on the Metra tracks.
