I guess we'll all be happy to see people if they can make it up later in the summer / year tho'.

I queued for an hour with C to get a HP book on Friday. We arrived at c. 11.45 and the queue went from Waterstones round the Burger King to the Guildform Arms. This may only make sense to other Edinburgers hiding out on this thread.

Tim, it's no problem.

Any other time is fine, just let me know, though I'll be in Dublin the week beginning the 8th.

KeefW (kmw), Monday, 18 July 2005 11:52 (eighteen years ago) link

Alex, yes, Matthew Atk1nson was saying there were loads of people dressed up as wizards and gnomes and stuff on the street.

KeefW (kmw), Monday, 18 July 2005 11:53 (eighteen years ago) link

Would that be a Wednesday in 2001?? Has this thread gone into a timewarp?

alext (alext), Monday, 18 July 2005 21:17 (eighteen years ago) link

No, the whole of ILX has gone into a timewarp.

That would be Wednesday as in not tomorrow but the day after.

dahlin (dahlin), Monday, 18 July 2005 21:28 (eighteen years ago) link

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT, for ALLY C:
tennis was fully booked up, through tuesday

czn (johnson), Monday, 18 July 2005 21:39 (eighteen years ago) link

I wish I had tried New Lanark more. It looks very nice (I was at a wedding there once, but it was dark and I was drunk so I don't remember it looking that pretty).

You should try hills up the back of Greenock more. That's what I did on Sunday. I got sunburnt.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 18 July 2005 21:42 (eighteen years ago) link

(that isn't my photo, and that's not my dog)

I think this may be a good thread to introduce myself to some of you(If anyone cares...).
Longtime lurker of about 3-4 years. (I think i posted on a pfunk thread some years back actually). I know quite a few ilxors from outside of ilx but none in Scotland.

My name is Kerr and i'm 32.
I'm not from Glasgow but i'm not far away. I've been in Hamilton for 14 years now. Before that I lived in various places including East Kilbride, Blackwood and before I moved to Hamilton I lived in Prestwick for 8 years, where i attended secondary school in Ayr.

Main interests are music and football(im an Accies fan for my sins, as well as Liverpool).

Ned insists you're a friendly lot.

So hello everybody!

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Monday, 18 July 2005 22:08 (eighteen years ago) link

hello pfunk. post more. it could create a new pfunk era.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 18 July 2005 22:11 (eighteen years ago) link

Ned's a liar. We're all horrible.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 18 July 2005 22:12 (eighteen years ago) link

Hi pfunk! I work with an Accies fan, from Hamilton.

Ailsa's lying. Only some of us are horrible.

It's gone 2am - get to bed Gerry!

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 00:06 (eighteen years ago) link

yes, get to bed gerry!
hi kerr.. i think i have your number. ooo-er!

dahlin (dahlin), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 08:18 (eighteen years ago) link

greetings, kerr. hamilton, eh? i've been to the bus station there. and i've met some of mogwai.

when i met the glasgow ILX chapter in the flesh, they gave me chinese burns and swirlies. especially that dahlin: you want to be watching her.

sorry. er ... not sure i can do a wednesday pint, but post any details here anyway and i shall try.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 08:43 (eighteen years ago) link

Wednesday is .2. night, innit. Buff Club.

Mädchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 08:50 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm not leaving Edin. until we have moved flat on Friday. (Others have much worse things to do that day I know.) I am now wondering where on earth I can get legal advice about how not to be stitched up by dearly beloved partner in the process ;-)

alext (alext), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 09:20 (eighteen years ago) link

i bite. CHOMP
no, madchen darling, today is TUESDAY. TOMORROW is wednesday. i know you've been working hard and all, but REALLY...

dahlin (dahlin), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 09:23 (eighteen years ago) link

i think she meant "dot to dot" night? or dot-to-dot night, if you're going to be really pedantic about the punctuation.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 09:42 (eighteen years ago) link

grimly understands

Mädchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 10:14 (eighteen years ago) link

oh yes, i like that.

grimly understands (grimlord), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 10:15 (eighteen years ago) link

I've never met any of Mogwai but I did use to see Stuart reading the music mags in John Menzies/WH Smiths before and after mogwai started.
You occasionally see him around town. His mum is my mates GP.

Havent been to an Accies match for a few years Gerry but I wouldn't be surprised if I did know or know of your workmate. Though I am terrible at matching names with faces.

Ailsa , when I took Ned to Avalanche Records I showed him the celtic shop next door and he mentioned your name saying you were a keen Celtic fan.
So I guess you hate Motherwell just as much as I do now :)

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 10:51 (eighteen years ago) link

We should try Hamilton more. I went to school there.

scotstvo (scotstvo), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 15:52 (eighteen years ago) link

I like your pictures, Stacey.

I would only be able to drink tonight, formally. Tomorrow is rock n roll.

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 15:55 (eighteen years ago) link

Tonight I am going to the pub in Paisley to watch a pre-season friendly (Celtic v Leicester) such is my dedication to booze Celtic.

I knew tomorrow was Dot to Dot, hence why I suggested it. Thursday onwards would be out since people are going to Liz' funeral.

I vote for the Hamilton Palace. I used to go out with someone who used to drink there. Cheap drinks, tarty women and neddish blokes to laugh at, and the chance to dance to Copacabana! What more could you want.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 16:38 (eighteen years ago) link

Also most of the 4th, 5th and 6th year from my alma mater too. Rowr!

scotstvo (scotstvo), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 17:13 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm really excited about moving back to glasgow

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 18:25 (eighteen years ago) link

are you coming on sunday?

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 18:39 (eighteen years ago) link

ally - rock n roll my ass. as if you can't do both. in fact, isn't drink intrinsic to rock n roll? and i've shown you mine, where's yours?
ailsa - sounds palatial indeed. where is this... er... gem?
colin - i don't believe you really exist.

dahlin (dahlin), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 18:50 (eighteen years ago) link

I hope so, colin

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 19:04 (eighteen years ago) link

so do i.

dahlin, i'm real baby!

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 19:05 (eighteen years ago) link

prove it

dahlin (dahlin), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 20:12 (eighteen years ago) link

I am maybe, now, too poor to go out tomorrow night.

Dahlin, here is a guide to nights out in Hamilton. The Palace doesn't come out of it too well. I also used to go out in Coatbridge in my younger days. It was crap as well. People, does Lanarkshire have any redeeming features (nice photos of New Lanark notwithstanding)?

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 20:50 (eighteen years ago) link

redeeming features? er: it's not that far from civilisation glasgow.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 21:35 (eighteen years ago) link

I just remembered, it used to have T in the Park when T in the Park was good and I was the owner of one of the fifty or so tents at the first one. Norman Blake told stories about the mausoleum thing.

There's a statue of Davie Cooper out the back of the Hamilton Palace somewhere. Near Asda.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 21:39 (eighteen years ago) link

I can't recommend Blantyre's David Livingston Centre highly enough. Also, the Clyde Valley is great for summer days. And er, that's it.

Oh, except the Tabac at Hamilton train station.

scotstvo (scotstvo), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 23:22 (eighteen years ago) link

OK, now I need to find a flat or flatmate.

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 17:06 (eighteen years ago) link
