banana sliced into "coins" frozen for 15 minutes+ is an exact replica of banana ice cream imo. blend with a little cocoa powder or peanut butter and you're living the good life.

My brother is obsessed with his Yonanas machine, which operates on this principle.

Team Safeword (Abbbottt), Monday, 16 July 2012 20:18 (eleven years ago) link

I typically smother my banana in confectionery sugar

The Cheerfull Turtle (Latham Green), Monday, 16 July 2012 20:18 (eleven years ago) link

lol abbbottt I would buy that just because it's called "yonanas"

if u have one of these type juicers it does the pureed frozen banana thing real nice

lag∞n, Monday, 16 July 2012 20:20 (eleven years ago) link

I discovered banana trip because I slice into coins so that I don't have a full banana in every smoothie. Banana never *quite* hardens, just turns into this ice cream-like texture. If you blend it it's even creamier. Lovely.

jinx VG! we owe each other some beer. no banana flavouring though.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Monday, 16 July 2012 20:20 (eleven years ago) link

there was a delicious banana shake i tried to recreate using only bananas but it turned out the secret ingredient was icecream.

Philip Nunez, Monday, 16 July 2012 20:21 (eleven years ago) link

beer is my snack of choice

Team Safeword (Abbbottt), Monday, 16 July 2012 20:21 (eleven years ago) link

I just use a regular blender like a chump. Might write Lexnanas on it for kicks.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Monday, 16 July 2012 20:22 (eleven years ago) link

lol I am into that way more than Yonanas. I think if I wrote Abnanas on something it would just be confusing. "You misspelled bananas."

Team Safeword (Abbbottt), Monday, 16 July 2012 20:23 (eleven years ago) link

D'oh! But it's kind of adorable sounding anyway!

McCracknanas

Team Safeword (Abbbottt), Monday, 16 July 2012 20:27 (eleven years ago) link

omg mine could be Shananas :D

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 16 July 2012 20:29 (eleven years ago) link

My brother's would be a Merrnanas, I should make him a custom label.

The Cheerfull Turtle (Latham Green), Monday, 16 July 2012 20:55 (eleven years ago) link

fyi JUICE is nature's way of tricking us in to eating fiber so unless you're drinking something that has the whole fruit in it you need to slow your roll

♆ (gr8080), Monday, 16 July 2012 21:01 (eleven years ago) link

the name "yonanas" seems to be a trick, too...

Philip Nunez, Monday, 16 July 2012 22:38 (eleven years ago) link

I actually used my juicer to make carrot juice th eother day then I felt very virougous

The Cheerfull Turtle (Latham Green), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 13:09 (eleven years ago) link

i bet it was delicious but you'd be better off just eating some carrots

Frozen banana "ice cream" is delicious. You can add all kinds of stuff to it. I just make mine in the blender. It doesn't even really taste like bananas imo - more just like vanilla soft serve.

i think people reverse the image to trick the evil mpaa robots into thinking it's not debbie downer but non-NBC-owned public domain character Dora Depressive played by Raquelle Dortch.

Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 17:55 (eleven years ago) link

Also - I make by banana soft serve in a reg old blender and frozen grapes are the best.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 17:55 (eleven years ago) link

feel bad for people making this in a reg old blender operating at a smoothness deficit

lag∞n, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 17:56 (eleven years ago) link

the frozen grapes thing is pretty great

The Merch Seat (admrl), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 17:58 (eleven years ago) link

is the slicing into coins the secret trick? they still end up kind of brownish pureed bananas. i'd really liken it more to banana pudding than ice cream.

Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 17:59 (eleven years ago) link

with no carageenan!?

The Cheerfull Turtle (Latham Green), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 18:00 (eleven years ago) link

dude run that banana through a campion juicer or a yonanas and u will know what its all abt

lag∞n, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 18:00 (eleven years ago) link

i can't believe something called "yonanas" could shame the vitamix.

Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 18:05 (eleven years ago) link

all this talk of juicers and methods seems to defeat the point of snacks, which is to shovel stuff absent-mindedly into one's mouth with no effort at all

just eat carrots and bananas and grapes as they are, it's fine

bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 18:15 (eleven years ago) link

bananas won't freeze solid so you don't need to pre slice them into coins. just peel them and bag them whole in the freezer - make sure you get as much air out of the bag as possible. the longer you freeze them for the browner they'll go, try not to keep them for more than a week or so, i guess. i use a food processor, you gotta let it run for like 5 mins for ultimate ice cream simulacrum (my blender is a piece of shit, most cheap blenders you can only pulse in 10 sec bursts or the motors burn out).

frozen mango is real good blended in, as well.

<3 I posted a picture on my FB yesterday and a stream of Canadians came out of the woodwork chuckling with glee. Another reminded me of 'Sol,' who I'd forgotten about.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 18:32 (eleven years ago) link

tbh I find it easier to chop the banana into chunks at least before freezing -- it breaks down a little easier in the food processor and doesn't put as much stress on the motor.

half is in the fridge

lag∞n, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 18:43 (eleven years ago) link

yeah but you can just break up the whole banana into chunks before throwing it in the blender - that was my point about the banana not freezing solid. plus whole banana = less surface area to brown. xps

just1n3, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 18:44 (eleven years ago) link

honestly unless you have a yonanas you really shouldnt even be talking frozen banana technique

markers, Wednesday, 28 May 2014 20:04 (nine years ago) link

what kind of peanut butter though?

°ㅇ๐ْ ° (gr8080), Wednesday, 28 May 2014 20:33 (nine years ago) link

oh I love almond butter generally

I probably eat it more than peanut butter (which I also love)

I have it on toast, on ricecakes, and if I ever get a batch of apples that aren't quite tart enough for my liking, I dip em in almond butter so that I will finish eating them :)

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 28 May 2014 20:33 (nine years ago) link

i prefer natural peanut butter and almond butter mostly - ie just nuts, no salt or anything.

but if it's pbj time, then I need jif or something salty because unsalted peanut butter isn't right for pbj
