Still hoping we do a "Best of ILM 2010-2014" rollout one day. No idea what my choice would be, though.

I'll go with Echolyn's 2012 self-titled album. Seems like something I could listen to endlessly.

frogbs, Tuesday, 2 February 2016 16:30 (eight years ago) link

I dunno can't really pick one out of those. Right now I'd pick Fka Twigs.

EMA's Past Life Martyred Saints still holding on firmly to this title for me.

Right now, it's this:

Lovely soothing synth drones, Meg Bowles is a genius who remains to be uncovered by a larger audience because she's in the (admittedly self-chosen) "new age" category. But seriously, if this (or some of her previous albums) had been released by a "cool" ambient label, they would be lauded as masterpieces.

the eventual championing of OPO over POO makes me very sad

its subtle brume (DJP), Tuesday, 2 February 2016 19:24 (eight years ago) link

Granda by Monika Brodka. She won the Polish version of Pop Idol in 2004 and released two reasonably good albums before disappearing for four years and coming back with a masterpiece. That was six years ago so the next one should be even better if it ever arrives.

On a Raqqa tip (ShariVari), Tuesday, 2 February 2016 19:32 (eight years ago) link

ah fuck, I'd swap out something for Bowie's Blackstar.

what these culture vultures aren't taking into account is that people might check out, say, the Tuomas and ShariVari recommendations, enshrined in their isolation

totally forgot about this ... i really like the production on it, though i'm a sucker for literal industrial noises. Total subtle homage to Robert Rental and Frieder Butzman if you listen properly

sarahell, Tuesday, 2 February 2016 22:57 (eight years ago) link

the esplendor geometrico and plan b hommages of 'ilm años' help to intersect notions of class and gender within interstitial social spaces more acutely than anything since 'the flowers of indie' by filth riemann
