Ciaran Hinds is Mance Rayder.

Interesting choice. On the one hand it's cool because he's a great actor. On the other, he seems a bit too old and serious for Mance.

omg <3 Ciaran Hinds

always pictured Mance as a more rakish chap. Rather him than Dominic West (who apparently turned it down) though

aw, i woulda liked to have dominic west on this show

Heh, I like Oneal's write-up:

NEWSWIRE
Game Of Thrones finally cast its Mance Rayder, so we're pretty sure that's all the characters now

By Sean O'Neal August 17, 2012

After casting the entire population of the United Kingdom in other, non-Mance Rayder roles, Game Of Thrones has finally decided who will play the already-legendary King Beyond The Wall, whose name strikes fear in the hearts of easily upset fans reading Internet casting rumors. According to Entertainment Weekly, it's Ciarán Hinds, the Irish actor whose film credits include turns in Munich, There Will Be Blood, and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, although he is perhaps best known to HBO viewers for playing Julius Caesar on Rome, which was another sweeping, expensive, swords-and-sandals drama that didn't have enough dragons, and so it was canceled, despite its similarly rampant nudity. Hinds will likely fare much better here, provided everyone can get past his recent turn as a Bill Clinton cartoon on Political Animals.

Anyway, this likely brings an end to Game Of Thrones casting news, unless George R.R. Martin created any more characters than that. It's been fun, everybody! Drop the banner and the balloons and let's shut it down.

three weeks pass...

I just caught up with this series, watched it one after the other over a weekend or so!

and for some reason, this is the question that sticks out with me -- it looks like catelyn left ned's body & head at the camp when she fled with brianna. i was surprised that there was no comment on it.

got the first book from the lib -- am wary of being super addicted and not being able to read/do anything else, but we will see!

(i am similarly frustrated by ged's loss of his pet the 2nd time around in the first earthsea book...no comment on how he had to lose him again right after he found him!)

i am blanking on the silent sisters. that is from the book, right? haven't started the book yet. i meant how it is unaddressed on the show...(unless i totally missed this scene)

rayuela, Wednesday, 19 September 2012 20:35 (eleven years ago) link

They are kind of nuns/priestesses. You see them in the very first episode tending to Jon Arryn's dead body.

Moodles, Wednesday, 19 September 2012 20:38 (eleven years ago) link

they're the quiet nurse/nun-like ladies treating soldiers on the battlefields and such. It's a religious order. I don't know if it's directly explained in the show but they're around. A group of them carry Ned's body in when littlefinger presents it to catelyn. XP

hmm ok, i'll take it!

"Emilia's breasts are especially strong this year."
"I spent the time off improving my breasts and I really think the viewers are going to notice."
"We always said that if we could get to season three and really hold the story together, that's when we'd have time to show more breasts and that's what we're doing."

If my house wasn't already completely overrun by pets I would adopt one of these poor huskies.

this will surprise many (Nicole), Thursday, 27 December 2012 00:10 (eleven years ago) link

;_;

yeah huskies can be a real handful to train if you're not on yr game. lots of alpha domination shenanigans. I mean, no more than with other pack-type dogs but from what I have heard they're not the best for the casual dogowner

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 27 December 2012 00:13 (eleven years ago) link

but lots of people just want the dog to be cute and be around when they're home and then that's it, they won't walk them or train them or hardly anything, it's such a bummer especially with those bigger breeds who need a lot of attention in that area
