I am also attending a surprise birthday party this weekend. I don't think they read ILX.

film noir fest sounds fantastic!

there was a giant gang graffito on the building across from us, which was then covered with more gang graffiti the next day, and more the next day. i went to call 311 to get it removed and checked the address to find it was already completely gone!

re: the Music Box, jesse, ct, and I are going to the 5:30 showing of The Phantom Lady.

Oh cool -- I'm not sure if we'll be back from Evanston in time for that, but if so, maybe we will join you? We were originally thinking about The Window at 7:30.

doglatting (jaymc), Friday, 17 August 2012 20:58 (eleven years ago) link

We were deciding between The Phantom Lady and The Window and the promise of "Elisha Cook’s manic interlude as a wigged-out jazz drummer in orgiastic frenzy" in The Phantom Lady was too hard to pass up. Contact one of us if you are going to make it and we'll save seats!

clouds, what part of town do you live in now?

I'm really looking forward to The Phantom Lady!

c.a., check out the astonishing improvements at the Cook County Courts' website!! http://www.cookcountycourt.org/ It is actually NOT-USELESS anymore!! Co-worker and I just nerded out all over. Before now there was no centralized website to get info about all Cook County Courts' judges and about court rules for free. Which, WTFF?

je55e, i'm in ukie village. the gang tagging is surprising as it is definitely a nascent yoga mommy/single white dudes w/ tech jobs neighb.

Fucking Dorrie Brown. I voted for her opponent so hard. The Law Bulletin reported on the appalling mess she let court records become - appeals attorneys crippled by missing case files and documents (I was looking at a small divorce file this week where 6 documents on the socket were missing, including orders, which can become important later).

They have e-filing - which they brag about on slick banners strung up all over the place (meanwhile vital, informational signage is scrawled on copy paper with a dull Sharpie) - but only in ONE branch of ONE department. The fucking banners fail to mention that fact.

We've been working with a lawyer from Tuscaloosa, Alabama this week and he said that all Alabama state circuit courts have had e-filing for years. Alabama!

Sorry. I was hearing some of the words above as Diamana Gs shrieks.

Saw Mumford & Sons last night. Mayor Rahm was sitting a couple of rows ahead of me. I had to be there. I'm sure he did not, the sucker.

i heard/saw the krisnas again today on my way to the market and this time instead of just staring and enjoying their music/chanting, i smiled and waved at them. they did not wave back. they remain a mystery. also as it turns out like 75% of the ilx posts about hare krisnas are me talking to myself about these very same people. maybe this is the year i will go to one of their events just to clear things up.

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Sunday, 19 August 2012 17:44 (eleven years ago) link

Can you remind me what their events are?

This flea-market-like thing in Uptown looks cool: http://www.vintagegaragechicago.com/about-us/ Only two more left before the city goes to sleep though.

just go here and look at the calendar http://www.iskconchicago.com/
their website has gotten much better over the years!

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Sunday, 19 August 2012 18:06 (eleven years ago) link

Do they celebrate Halloween?

DX Dx DX (dan m), Sunday, 19 August 2012 18:41 (eleven years ago) link

I and other ex-Greensborians crossed paths with Krishnas quite a bit b/c they had a restaurant by UNCG, under the apartment I lived in for a while. Good food. Courtney, my boyfriend and I ate from their take-out while we watched CNN on 9/11.

Just putting that there for the Druid angle.

There's a new breakfast place across from Atlas Brewing called Batter and Berries and if you are a fan of sweet breakfasts, it's pretty good.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Monday, 20 August 2012 13:29 (eleven years ago) link

omg that guy.

i wonder what this druid listserv is?! sometimes i just get this super heavy "ahhhhhh, humans" feeling when i hear about this kind of thing. people make me so sad.

Awww. She's got your mouth.

Hey, CPL has is doing fines amnesty. I've had $40-some since 2006, but I've decided to still pay them. Or maybe make a donation if they are not accepting fines money.

(*・_・)ノ⌒ ☆ (Je55e), Monday, 20 August 2012 16:15 (eleven years ago) link

Speaking of AMAZING BARGAINS, Macy's is fixing to put Charter Club down comforters on sale for 50% off, plus you can get another 25% off if you donate $5 to some charity. I think it starts next week, but P@ul@nn3 the bedding department lady told me that you can pre-purchase to lock in the sale price.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Monday, 20 August 2012 19:57 (eleven years ago) link

But don't buy duvet covers at Macy's because holy cannoli that shit is expensive.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Monday, 20 August 2012 19:57 (eleven years ago) link

How much are the down comforters?

Dan: http://www.towleroad.com/2012/08/duluth-minnesota-gets-first-gay-bar.html (though you probably already knew this).

The king size was originally $400 something down to under $200 for the "level 4" weight, which is one under the heavy weight and what P@ul@nn3 recommended for a Chicago winter even in these warming times.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Monday, 20 August 2012 20:35 (eleven years ago) link

my team at work went on a field trip this morning. we went to the poetry foundation's library and then to the new library at u of c. we got to go underground and see the robot book cranes at u of c.

(*・_・)ノ⌒ ☆ (Je55e), Monday, 20 August 2012 20:36 (eleven years ago) link

One of R's friends posted about it on fb this morning. I thought there already was a gay bar up there, but perhaps I was wrong. Or perhaps it was not as 'out'.

DX Dx DX (dan m), Monday, 20 August 2012 20:39 (eleven years ago) link

Sorry about that mess, Chicago thread.

Nick, were they awesome? I would love to see them.

Thx, Jenny. I can't see myself spending $200 on bedding, however lovely. I have a down comforter now that covers my queen size bed, but doesn't fill a duvet cover.... I wonder where it came from?? It seems like it's always been with me...

xp - there has been one in Superior, WI for 6 years. Same owners.

(*・_・)ノ⌒ ☆ (Je55e), Monday, 20 August 2012 20:40 (eleven years ago) link

Well check your email bc I have an offer you cannot refuse.

Why is this happening to me? ??

Because you were using URL instead of IMG.

I am kind of shocked this is the first gay bar. Or even first out one. I thought Duluth was kind of hip?

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Monday, 20 August 2012 20:42 (eleven years ago) link

Ah yes, I was thinking of Soup-town. They're slightly interchangeable, there's only a bridge in between. A big bridge, mind you.

DX Dx DX (dan m), Monday, 20 August 2012 20:43 (eleven years ago) link

R now confirms that Superior has multiple gay bars.

DX Dx DX (dan m), Monday, 20 August 2012 20:44 (eleven years ago) link

You're right, ca. I get those BBCode Plus keyboard shortcuts mixed up.

xp Haha "R now confirms" -- Story developing.....

Alert: we are going to Craigslist a vintage Lane-brand cedar chest but I will give it to anybody reading this thread who is willing to come get it and carry it out of our house. I don't know the measurements off the top of my head, but it's sizable. It's a little beat up but it smells really good and it's in good condition for as old as it is.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Monday, 20 August 2012 21:22 (eleven years ago) link

I will post the measurements this weekend, or sooner if I remember.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Monday, 20 August 2012 21:23 (eleven years ago) link

got no room for a cedar chest :(

i'm not sure if anyone here is looking for a new job or wants to apply a job as "manager of web communications" but email me if you do
it's not at my workplace so i can't answer any specific q's about it but i can send you the link
that's all
