oh wow a new rangda record!

Just saw C. Corsano play solo last night and holy shit was that good. Dude is just great.

grandavis, Tuesday, 11 September 2012 20:14 (eleven years ago) link

aye got a ticket for the london show

Crackle Box, Thursday, 13 September 2012 14:44 (eleven years ago) link

so is the new one better than the last (my only gripe with the last one was that the show was 100000000x better, but maybe that's just the nature of the thing)

Crackle Box, Thursday, 13 September 2012 14:45 (eleven years ago) link

lol okay i just had a similar conversation to LL's just now. called my local shop to see if they got it in and ask them to hold a copy for me.

me: "Yeah, I just wanted to see if you got the new Rangda album in?"
sleepy sounding dude: "Uh, who was that?"
me: "Rangda. R-A-N-G-D-A."
ssd: *types away* "Hmm, nothing coming up for that in the system. How was that spelled again?"
me: "R-A-N-G-D-A"
ssd: "Nope, nothing, not even an entry for other albums by them."
me: "That's weird, I know I bought their first album from you guys."
ssd: "What's the name of the album?"
me: "Formerly Extinct."
ssd: "Oh yeah, here it is. We've got a couple copies. It's actually spelled R-A-N-G-D-A."
me: *slaps forehead* "Okay, cool, thanks."

fwiw, dude was super friendly and helpful, was just a funny exchange and made me think of LL's post.

haha!

btw, the album hasn't really electrified me all that much, but i like it. i guess anything is going to sound minimal after listening to a bunch of SWANS. the sound seems to be a little heavier on the sir richard this time? the drumming isn't nearly as crazy as i remember it?

anyway, i like it and hope that they find a way to tour again. the show was GREAT and corsano is really fun to watch.

yeah love this, not sure if it's as good as the first one, but really strong. i do know what you mean about corsano being a bit reined in -- i almost imagine he thinks of rangda as his most non-out-there project.

tylerw, Tuesday, 18 September 2012 19:19 (eleven years ago) link

btw, bishop has put up a bunch of his albums for free download over here: http://deliradio.com/sir-richard-bishop
not entirely sure what the deal is, but he was tweeting about it, so i assume that's what he wants!

tylerw, Tuesday, 18 September 2012 19:30 (eleven years ago) link

Kinda feel like this project is a grab at straight-ahead power trio rock format for all three of these dudes.

Trip Maker, Tuesday, 18 September 2012 19:32 (eleven years ago) link

Not that that's what it equals up to, of course.

Trip Maker, Tuesday, 18 September 2012 19:32 (eleven years ago) link

yeah that is true

tylerw, Tuesday, 18 September 2012 19:41 (eleven years ago) link

oh wow he is releasing a record with David Oliphant(Maybe Mental, Life Garden)!!! That guy rules. They must know each other from the old Phoenix/Placebo days.

tylerw, Wednesday, 3 October 2012 18:43 (eleven years ago) link

Great chat there. Love Chasny the guy so much. Super nice but no bullshit (other than the good kind i.e. a sense of humor) and a real cool insight. Bishop is of course from another planet or something.

grandavis, Wednesday, 3 October 2012 19:24 (eleven years ago) link

yes, great read

Trip Maker, Wednesday, 3 October 2012 19:44 (eleven years ago) link

BC: You would think that, but I had to put on 12-gauge strings recently and, man, did I suck. I use 10s, same as Angus Young. He plays guitar in a band called AC/DC.

RB: Never heard of him! I bet he dresses funny.

I lol'd. Also 12-gauge is horrible, I tormented myself with those for years.

Saw these last night. So much better live than on record and the records are pretty great.

Does anyone know their tour schedule?

van smack, Saturday, 20 October 2012 15:09 (eleven years ago) link

pretty good interview. mention of a possible live record towards the end?

tylerw, Thursday, 8 November 2012 17:33 (eleven years ago) link

I still don't know where/who that message came from.

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Thursday, 8 November 2012 17:37 (eleven years ago) link

mysterious. they just wanted to talk about rangda?

tylerw, Thursday, 8 November 2012 17:39 (eleven years ago) link

It was a recommendation for another record but it sounded kinda like a marketing ploy -- but why would anyone use me for their promotional target? So I figure it must be a normal ilxor. Just don't know who!

one month passes...

surprised there isn't more post-release discussion in this thread. loving the new album, but i never gave the first one a ton of time, so maybe my perspective is different.

is the first one better, according to hardcore Rangda-o-philes?

alpine static, Wednesday, 19 December 2012 23:44 (eleven years ago) link

i think the first one is better, but the second one is great, too. i just want these guys to make an album every month.

tylerw, Wednesday, 19 December 2012 23:45 (eleven years ago) link

The first one is definitely more improvy and less songy. If that seems like it would appeal to you, I recommend it! I like it.

passion it person (La Lechera), Wednesday, 19 December 2012 23:45 (eleven years ago) link

I definitely prefer the first one. The 2nd seems a bit restrained in comparison, which is not really what I want from these guys.

sleeve, Wednesday, 19 December 2012 23:51 (eleven years ago) link

I feel like all three of them took the opportunity to freak out a lot more on the first one; the second one is more organized/normal.

still need to see rangda, but richard bishop is playing near me next month, so i'll take it!

whoa thanks for that Badabing update!

lol i really was thinking just the other day that rangda have the same line-up as the dead c

this split LP is sounding goood, just put the Rangda side on the good turntable to rip it. What I initially thought was vinyl distortion turned out to be Corsano doing some kinda muffled cymbal thing at the beginning.

I just picked up "Formerly Extinct" the other day and am loving it, though in an odd turn of events they released their 1st album second and 2nd album first kind of.

chr1sb3singer, Monday, 8 April 2013 23:34 (eleven years ago) link

Also just got the Rangda/Dead C split...the Rangda half is good....the Dead C side is like some real prime slab from them, awesome

chr1sb3singer, Monday, 15 April 2013 00:06 (eleven years ago) link

yeah i dig that split.

tylerw, Monday, 15 April 2013 16:41 (eleven years ago) link

speaking of which could any of you guys hook me up w/ mp3s of this thang? i'm not set up to rip 'em.

tylerw, Monday, 15 April 2013 16:48 (eleven years ago) link

I think I might like "Formerly Extinct" more then the first one

Hey tyler I can hook you up with that, I'll email you later tonight.
