is MS confirmed holiday 2013? i shd probably know these things but i was def under the impression that we were talking holiday 14 for both of em.

no, just rumors... a bunch of devs have already started working on games for the upcoming systems, but assuming they started this summer, 18 months of dev time isn't that great for launch titles. 2-3 years is more believable

but the last guardian is DEFINITELY confirmed for holiday 2012 right

there was a rumour a while back that MS were aiming for holiday 2013 but were having production problems with chip production - no idea how true that was though.
just realised that WiiU will have playable versions of 2D Mario, Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter at launch. if that doesn't shift hardware then Japan will surely be signaling that they are abandoning consoles for good.

Nothing has been announced. The general feeling is that Microsoft and Sony are aiming for holiday 2013. Developers have the systems and are working on games. My feeling is that we will see them by Spring 2014 at the worst. Sales have been really poor for most of the year & something has to be done to freshen things up, sooner rather than later. But it does make you wonder why Sony would release a new PS3 hardware refresh, if the console will be out-of-date in 12 months (though I imagine they could also still hope to sell PS3s for a few years after PS4 gets released, especially if the rumors about a lack of backwards compatibility turn out to be true).

Tokyo Jungle is $12 with a PS+ membership so I will buy and report back when it's live tomorrow. I am into it.

I will say it's worth the download but man it is dark souls levels of frustrating. SO EASY TO DIE EARLY and then three minutes to restart

dead or alive 5 came out on ps3 and i bought it to take advantage of 7 cell boob processing. holla if you have sophisticated taste and like punching.

I don't know if you can multi it! The game doesn't really explain itself well... took me forever to realize i couldn't play story!

i think i played this for four hours last night. The key is to beat the passel of challenges you have on point... also to keep breeding and equipping your animal once you unlock clothes. I completely missed both points and the game doesn't really push you to do that stuff if you accomplish goals out of order. The graphics are TERRIBLE, the platforming is wobbly and the gameplay goals are generally vague and confusing, the game is laid out weird, it's very frustrating and often senseless what animals you can kill (a hyena with a pomeranian?) and then the one hit kill animals the other way (never fuck with a buffalo). It is, however, really really fun and addictive once you get on the excruciatingly slow progression ladder. The RPG elements are surprisingly engaging and the threat of having to sit through an end screen really makes dying a necessary avoidance. The stakes is high.

yo why is valkyria chronicles so good? and why hasn't anybody ripped off the 3p TBS mechanic yet? this is seriously great (minus the crazy number of cutscenes which is just bewildering. i mean why can't these play in a window while i do all my aspie changeloadouts.xls things? OH VIDEO GAMES

yeah i loved vc a bunch.

yeh VC1 is one of my favs of the last few years. couldn't get into VC2 tho, so many annoying characters. VC3 is supposed to be better, fan translation is nearing completion last i heard.

VC2 was PSP only, right? Can you play PSP games on the PS3? I've never tried.

Tokyo Jungle is ridiculous. I died 4 times doing the FIRST PART OF THE TUTORIAL.

Then I played as a deer and somehow I accidentally killed a rabbit (but couldn't eat it) and that pissed off every other rabbit in the world so they all ganged up on me and chased me through the streets.

It's definitely one of those games that goes "here's an open world, feel free to roam around! Although actually if you don't do what we tell you when we tell you you'll last all of 2 minutes". Which is a bit of a shame, but perhaps once I've gone through all those hoops and got a better feel for what it's actually about, it'll open up a bit more.

do not fuck with crocodiles in this game

i find your posts fascinating, and also convincing to never ever play this game

it is, in many ways, totally reminiscent of Parasite Eve/Dino Crisis era capcom games

PS3 is selling well at the moment, consistently outselling 360 worldwide (360 still king in US though).
Vita sales figures are disastrous at the moment, we're talking Dreamcast levels here.

Yeah, I got a free month trial of PS+ yesterday and am kind of impressed actually, that's a pretty decent bunch of free stuff. Tempted to stay with it. Not clear on how the automatic downloads thing works though, it says something like "automatically download recommended games and demos"...so do they just push out every new freebie they add to the list, or what? And how do they decide which demos I do or don't care about?

they don't push much of anything really. It's mostly good for updates. They drop the occasional thing they're wanting everybody to get into; can't remember them ever pushing a demo.

i got PS+ a few weeks ago and i've been impressed with it, i don't normally play the "big" games on release anyway so its perfect for me - playing Borderlands at the moment, Red Dead Redemption or RE5 next. Hey Sony this makes me even less likely to buy games on release for full price, so thanks!

Just want to pick up on those people who are loving Valkyria Chronicles upthread. I found that the actual strategic elements of it are often overstated. Then there was an absurd difficulty spike (that desert level with the tank you have to blow up its radiators one by one before this crazy chick who can one-shot kill anybody arrives) which caused me to put the game down and stop playing. That was like two years ago, I haven't picked it up since.

the difficulty is one of the things i loved about it! i didn't really bother with the orders until the very end though which makes it a lot easier.
