it has more jack energy than most mixes at 130-140 and it's at like 122

the sub bass is particularly well-used at some points

the tracks are all bombs too

the late great, Monday, 1 October 2012 23:44 (eleven years ago) link

it's way better than most of the other panoramabar or ostgut releases, it's like a bouncy fluorescent version of the ben klock one

the late great, Monday, 1 October 2012 23:45 (eleven years ago) link

agreed, that's a good mix. "new for u" feels tacked on though. but I can understand his decision. it's hard too resist using it as a closer.

Yes, just got a copy of that Nick Höppner one! Putting it on now.

That one was quite good.

I guess I could add some actual content here. Join me as we take a trip in the wayback machine...

The city is London, the month is July, 2012. The city is ablaze with anticipation of the upcoming Olympics. A handful of drunken Scots and other twits gather in the studio of pirate radio station to broadcast their favorite disco, acid house, and other bouncy music to the teeming city:

http://podcast.dgen.net/rinsefm/podcast/Numbers170712.mp3

Don't have a tracklist handy but if anyone cares I can ID some of the songs for you. I know it has "Inspector Norse" and something by Aretha Franklin I believe?

viborg, Sunday, 7 October 2012 15:57 (eleven years ago) link

Crap. Since I posted a dead link I guess I'm required to post a mirror now? Really hope this doesn't get me banned here.

...And since this is handy I'll put it up -- Om Unit's Cosmic Bridge mixtape for Blackdown. In light of trap taking over fucking everything this might be dangerously close to that sound for some folks, even tho I'm pretty sure it's all ~100 bpm. To my ears it was really interesting when I first heard it, but this double-time drum & bass/downtempo-type thing has been unsuccessfully tried quite a few times before.

That Nick Höppner one. I don't want to say it's boring, I'll probably return to it, but I did find it difficult to finish...

MikeQ, on the other hand, is AMAZING.

MikoMcha, Sunday, 7 October 2012 16:26 (eleven years ago) link

the höppner is great, tho as far as panorama bar mixes go i'd probably pick the prosumer one over it

Yeah that Ejeca mix is good stuff. Also really like the track he did with Bicep.

Plasmon, Wednesday, 17 October 2012 05:47 (eleven years ago) link

a point reduced though for his strange use of bass kill and for tacking jaguar awkwardly at the end, I don't see what's the point.

looks good.

blurb tho, jesus:

In the back-slapping, masturbatory wold of contemporary house and techno, Dope Jams’ rebellious attitude is as valuable as it is rare. More importantly, they’re negativity towards what they hate is dwarfed by their enthusiasm for that which they love and hold dear.

who writes this shit?

The best known is probably the Slow To Speak bootleg series (aka Celebrate Life): high quality 12″ pressings, in glorious screen-printed sleeves, of classic tracks by everyone from Talking Heads and Kraftwerk, to Van Morrison and The Cure, via Alice Coltrane and Steve Reich

these 12"s are ridic, half of them are practically dollar bin records

SLOW TO SPEAK records
