a point reduced though for his strange use of bass kill and for tacking jaguar awkwardly at the end, I don't see what's the point.

i hadn't even heard of them before listening

lex pretend, Wednesday, 17 October 2012 15:34 (eleven years ago) link

it opens with GIVE ME LOVEFOOD and thence it is just so richly textured and melodic and there are so many incredible vocal moments

lex pretend, Wednesday, 17 October 2012 15:39 (eleven years ago) link

looks good.

blurb tho, jesus:

In the back-slapping, masturbatory wold of contemporary house and techno, Dope Jams’ rebellious attitude is as valuable as it is rare. More importantly, they’re negativity towards what they hate is dwarfed by their enthusiasm for that which they love and hold dear.

who writes this shit?

The best known is probably the Slow To Speak bootleg series (aka Celebrate Life): high quality 12″ pressings, in glorious screen-printed sleeves, of classic tracks by everyone from Talking Heads and Kraftwerk, to Van Morrison and The Cure, via Alice Coltrane and Steve Reich

these 12"s are ridic, half of them are practically dollar bin records

SLOW TO SPEAK records

Mano Le Tough seconded, it's nothing particularly thrilling or innovative, just some really good music played together.

boxedjoy, Wednesday, 31 October 2012 22:32 (eleven years ago) link

thx! not sure now which ones but iirc it was some eclectic stuff that strayed from dance or electronic music. do u mean the 303s one from that link, flopson?

that barnt tune is absolutely massive among a lot of the djs i like, flugel, dixon etc. i am not so into it myself but i suppose it's one of those clubs only records. met him during the summer actually as he'd just played my friends' night in berlin the evening prior to my arrival.

The Michael Mayer RA one is quite something isn't it? Better than Immer 3 imo.

Blue Collar Retail Assistant (Dwight Yorke), Thursday, 1 November 2012 10:07 (eleven years ago) link

I wouldn't go that far (yet), but yeah, it's great.

Dixon & Âme Boiler Room Mix

Almost 4 hours! I love the unreleased remix/edit of Eric Burdon's "The Black Plague" that pops up twice here.

new mayer album is pretty great stuff, too

CANNOT stop rinsing the Bicep BiS one...so chunky!

Blue Collar Retail Assistant (Dwight Yorke), Friday, 2 November 2012 19:07 (eleven years ago) link

The Bicep mix I'm addicted to is the one for Fader mag: http://soundcloud.com/feelmybicep/bicep-muscle-worx-exclusive . Bicep's Boiler Room mix is also great, overlaps a bit with the Muscle Worx mix.

Stuck at home today, have the Michael Mayer RA mix on repeat. It's definitely Immer-worthy.

Plasmon, Friday, 2 November 2012 19:41 (eleven years ago) link

that dixon boiler room is brilliant. funny how similar he and michael mayer feel these days, not the same but definitely a sort of similar indie-house spirit at work.

all the names of surgeon's mixes make me not bother, it's like a teenage boy who thinks he's a genius.

Heterocyclic ring ring (LocalGarda), Friday, 9 November 2012 11:39 (eleven years ago) link

lol the kozo/cezar mix is for a radio show called..."smoothy grooves", which almost as bad tho at least english-as-second-language means maybe it doesnt translate so well

coal, Friday, 9 November 2012 11:46 (eleven years ago) link
