Seriously, though, the first couple of eps of season one and two were good, too. This show has trouble sustaining itself without a whole bunch of standing and somber talking. At least season 3 apparently features, you know, zombies.

i love the beginnings and endings of almost every episode. kinda like Lost in that way. they get me going. okay, now i'm really going until i catch up.

scott seward, Tuesday, 23 October 2012 14:11 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, whole lot of plot you missed. Zombies, and, um. Zombies.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 23 October 2012 14:13 (eleven years ago) link

Would be great if a happy ending to the series was all of the zombies rotting to bones and everyone living in a world where they merely have to shoot whoever ends up dying in the head as a precaution.

Evan, Tuesday, 23 October 2012 14:34 (eleven years ago) link

i think that's the end of world war z. except like north korea is all underground zombie theme park.

i gotta give the show credit - they are generally very good with their cold opens

Nhex, Tuesday, 23 October 2012 15:19 (eleven years ago) link

watched the two new episodes. like them just as much as the old episodes. looking forward to the rich dudes in the next episode. they looked like rich dudes anyway in the preview.

Man, just catching up on the second season, and every time I think it's not that bad, someone does something stupid or the show crawls to a halt or whatever. Some good set pieces, but mostly a lot of wheel spinning.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 25 October 2012 19:18 (eleven years ago) link

*something cool seems like it might happen*
*standing around talking about the something cool that might happen for a long time*

d.j. conner as zombie slayer is SUCH an improvement this season. that kid was really the only character that bugged me during season 2.

scott seward, Thursday, 25 October 2012 19:22 (eleven years ago) link

yeah he's turning out to be a much better character this season, now that he has things to do and they've given him some skills/personality

Kinda creeped out when he and Herschel's youngest daughter interact - is it supposed to be flirting?

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Thursday, 25 October 2012 19:54 (eleven years ago) link

yeah. in the book the girl's much younger.

Nhex, Thursday, 25 October 2012 20:48 (eleven years ago) link

Can't be too picky in the zombie apocalypse.

Evan, Thursday, 25 October 2012 21:09 (eleven years ago) link

they all must be masturbating like crazy

only a matter of time before herschel is caught defiling a zombie corpse

Why in season 2 does Rick insist on using a revolver that keeps running out of ammo when he could get some crazier gun that holds more bullets?

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 26 October 2012 02:05 (eleven years ago) link

i dunno. it's a mystery. doesn't seem like they really looked hard enough for better guns. they must have passed a ton of local cop shops on their way from atlanta. just one of those things its best to ignore. like: if you are on the run for months on end you are probably covered in cuts and scrapes AND zombie blood! i mean, that can't be healthy. or why they insist on wearing as little clothing as possible when one scratch can kill them.

scott seward, Friday, 26 October 2012 02:09 (eleven years ago) link

Because it's hot outside?

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 26 October 2012 02:11 (eleven years ago) link

If it were the zombie apocalypse, I would be strapped like a first person shooter.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 26 October 2012 02:12 (eleven years ago) link

they AREN'T covered in scrapes and cuts is my point. and they totally would be. they are living like racoons and fighting monsters 24/7 and wearing tank tops.

scott seward, Friday, 26 October 2012 02:12 (eleven years ago) link

I also wondered how they all aren't constantly getting sick with all of the perpetual hygiene and nutritional struggles.

Evan, Friday, 26 October 2012 02:13 (eleven years ago) link

Rick's a white-hat lawman, he has to carry a good old-fashioned revolver
No-goodnik Shane preferred a Glock

I usually found myself wondering why they didn't all get nice new rides like Shane's crossover SUV.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Friday, 26 October 2012 02:13 (eleven years ago) link

With all the up close zombie killing, how has no one gotten some spray up in their eyes/nose/mouth? If a zombie bite can induce the infection to take over, wouldn't swallowing zombie?

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Friday, 26 October 2012 02:14 (eleven years ago) link

i would be wearing pots & pans like a xena-loving raimi.

scott seward, Friday, 26 October 2012 02:14 (eleven years ago) link

Ah, but they're all infected already! The bite just speeds the process, but I don't think gargling zombie guts will turn you into Dr. jeckyl.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 26 October 2012 02:14 (eleven years ago) link

I get why they do it, but scary zombie growls makes them less scary.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 26 October 2012 02:15 (eleven years ago) link

i mean okay its hot but ONE SCRATCH! and they are fighting them up close and personal. get some heavy duty riot gear. now they have the riot gear...

scott seward, Friday, 26 October 2012 02:16 (eleven years ago) link

No milo has a point- what is about biting that isn't also the same if the zombie blood is ingested? Is it about the bite directly into the blood stream? Or is it that zombies have zombie-poison in their teeth?

Evan, Friday, 26 October 2012 02:26 (eleven years ago) link

unrelated but in the last ep, when maggie had her v tearful & heartfelt moment with Herschel, I was v impressed at the way the makeup department managed to use makeup to make her look like she wasn't wearing makeup. her face was kinda broken out, she was dirty, sweaty, her lips were chapped...she looked so real, I was really impressed by that

but yes, scott's right. need more cuts and bruises.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 26 October 2012 02:27 (eleven years ago) link

The zombie mythology is that everybody that dies comes back as a zombie, but getting bit by a zombie leads to infection and rapid death. And then you come back as a zombie. Which makes (zombie) sense, since dead things are massively septic.

Wrapping up season 2. These people spend an inordinate amount of time walking around in the woods or dark. Or both. When they're not bickering.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 26 October 2012 14:38 (eleven years ago) link

s3 has been going at a very nice click so far. Really, really hoping they can keep it up.

Simon H., Friday, 26 October 2012 14:40 (eleven years ago) link

You know, if zombies tear their prey apart and consume them, wouldn't that significantly limit the number of new zombies to the freshly dead or wounded?

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 26 October 2012 14:50 (eleven years ago) link

Also: why are the zombies so angry? Always growling and snarling.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 26 October 2012 14:52 (eleven years ago) link

Worst solemn line in season 2: "Christ promised the resurrection of the dead. I just thought ... he had something a little different in mind."

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 26 October 2012 15:14 (eleven years ago) link

You mean most hilarious line

Nhex, Friday, 26 October 2012 15:16 (eleven years ago) link

Would have been better if it was delivered as a joke and not as a "makes you think ...'

Also, what kind of stupid reveal is it that everyone is infected? It only matters once you're dead, anyway, so why would anyone living care?

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 26 October 2012 15:25 (eleven years ago) link

oh they finally dropped that bon bon eh

We do live in a fallen, depraved world destined for the fire. (forksclovetofu), Friday, 26 October 2012 15:45 (eleven years ago) link

i really like the concept actually, as it creates the terror of anyone dying for any reason (starvation, paper cut wound)

in the book i remember like that wasn't revealed for some time? because of that weird road trip Rick takes to unbury Shane

Nhex, Friday, 26 October 2012 16:14 (eleven years ago) link

i like this show a lot and I enjoy talking about it here and with Mr Veg after the show - that being said I sat through an hour-long conversation yesterday in my office where 2 guys rehashed everything from the episode and then went on long flights of fancy about how since the zombies are decomposing why don't all their teeth fall out and they eventually stop biting ppl?
makes u think. *shoots self*

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 26 October 2012 16:18 (eleven years ago) link

show's been steadily rising in quality since darabont left imo

turds (Hungry4Ass), Friday, 26 October 2012 17:57 (eleven years ago) link

i don't really notice much of a difference from season 1 to season 2. i should actually watch the first season again. it's been awhile since i watched it. whole thing seems pretty consistent. the underground government thing might have been my least fave thing on the show? i dunno, it reminded me of Lost but not in a good way. just felt bad that they couldn't live down there. pretty damn good place to wait out the zombies.

it does seem like the zombies are falling apart more as they, uh, age.

scott seward, Friday, 26 October 2012 18:04 (eleven years ago) link

haha yes. these zombies are just constantly falling apart—their hands just pop off no problemo if they are caught in some handcuffs or whatever. that is UNTIL they grab you and they're suddenly super strong and have jaws of iron and healthy stay-in teeth that are just inescapable!

andrew m., Friday, 26 October 2012 18:38 (eleven years ago) link

Realistic take on zombies would probably be pretty boring, because tbh the military would probably have no problem using it's zombie-proof arsenal (ie tanks, planes and nukes) if necessary.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Friday, 26 October 2012 20:31 (eleven years ago) link

Just goes to show how spoiled we are, that reanimated dead with too much realism attached is not enough drama for us.

Evan, Friday, 26 October 2012 20:45 (eleven years ago) link

No new comments? All you US people lost power?

Still really enjoying this 3rd series. Even though reading the comics meant I knew what was coming in that last scene, still enjoyable vile.

Really strong ep I thought. David Morrissey!
