Reminds me of 'Look In' magazine.

i like the new at&t too. the translucent blue parts are trippy - the lowercase sans serif scenario is kinda weak tho, def says remember when we were a really important company?

jhoshea megafauna (scoopsnoodle), Saturday, 7 October 2006 15:15 (seventeen years ago) link

I like the Amazon smile thing, it's also an arrow from A to Z

For fuck's sake. The old logo was the only thing that set Payless apart from the other cheap shoe stores.

I also like the "spoon" in the new FedEx.

nate p. (natepatrin), Sunday, 8 October 2006 00:45 (seventeen years ago) link

(Obv. there was the pentagon-star one they used back in the '80s but nothing is cooler than the '60s logo, which is way the hell Star Wars)

nate p. (natepatrin), Sunday, 8 October 2006 00:49 (seventeen years ago) link

current logo trend annoyance

"Current" here means "c. 1998".

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 8 October 2006 01:25 (seventeen years ago) link

naw none of those were around in 98 clever guy

jhoshea megafauna (scoopsnoodle), Sunday, 8 October 2006 01:36 (seventeen years ago) link

i love the new dodge logo actually

anthony easton (anthony), Sunday, 8 October 2006 01:45 (seventeen years ago) link

(if they all had russian on the bottom for some inexplicable reason that would be k-awesome of course)

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Sunday, 8 October 2006 01:48 (seventeen years ago) link

Amazon's logo had a swoosh in 1998, but not the a->z one, which is from c. 2000. The Citibank logo is new, although the arc is of course based on the old Traveller's umbrella.

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 8 October 2006 02:08 (seventeen years ago) link

I actually like some of these new ones.

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 8 October 2006 04:11 (seventeen years ago) link

I make that typo all the time and I do know the difference. It's like some guys' "teh" for me.

oh no dunhill!

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Sunday, 8 October 2006 04:35 (seventeen years ago) link

current logo trend annoyance, all the little smiles and arcs trying to be so unthreatening

the Citi arc is the Travelers umbrella

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 8 October 2006 04:42 (seventeen years ago) link

I've never seen the 'new' Dunhill logo.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 8 October 2006 16:40 (seventeen years ago) link

red and grey bits

Ed (dali), Sunday, 8 October 2006 16:41 (seventeen years ago) link

oh jesus, that one really is terrible. it seems completely arbitrary & suggests absolutely zero about train travel.

jed_ (jed), Sunday, 8 October 2006 16:58 (seventeen years ago) link

the first one suggests train travel if you think back to some of those deco rail cars where the front looks like the front of an ocean liner (and the grey bit is the tracks, i guess)

ram jam holder (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 8 October 2006 17:14 (seventeen years ago) link

also the double lines of the lettering suggest tracks.

jed_ (jed), Sunday, 8 October 2006 17:19 (seventeen years ago) link

what spoon?

Inside the "e" of the FedEx logo.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Sunday, 8 October 2006 18:24 (seventeen years ago) link

Steve Bell desribed the new Tory logo as 'A berserk green elephant pissing over everything' and I can't see it as anything else now.

chap who would dare to contain two ingredients. Tea and bags. (chap), Sunday, 8 October 2006 20:00 (seventeen years ago) link

what spoon?

Inside the "e" of the FedEx logo.

Ever notice the arrow in the Ex? I think that's more intentional.

Butt Dickass (Dick Butkus), Sunday, 8 October 2006 20:12 (seventeen years ago) link

i'm guessing the way this happens is through design by committee. which guarantees utter blandness. old logos tended to be made by one person - ie nike logo designed my student making $2 an hour.

This observation is very OTM, however, the story I heard was that when Phil Knight was in his selling-shoes-out-the-back-of-his-car days, he noticed a co-worker doodling on a note pad. He said that he liked the little soosh design he had drawn and offered to buy the "rights" to it for something like $35.

I live in a town where logos on stores don't get updated for 15 years, so the "progress" displayed in this thread is appalling. WTF Payless!

logo? Does anyone know a font that looks like that?

It looks a little like Mexcellent, but not quite.

I like the new xerox font. Looks like those 3D beach ball logos are very in.

Walmart looks like the most generic design-your-own ever!

TOO MUCH LOWER CASE

the lower case here means that the logo doesn't "work" as well too

conrad, Monday, 7 July 2008 21:03 (fifteen years ago) link

would it be politically incorrect to turn AJ into a white woman with the excuse that they're trying to distance themselves from poor representations of past choices? Yes! They're screwed for life!

B-but Aunt Jemima is shapely and thoroughly bangable. If the guilty liberals replace her with an assless white girl, I'll have nothing to masturbate to at the breakfast table!

urghhh way too snuggly, and facebook + xbox doesn't compute on any level. i can almost understand moving away from the (classic) rock of gibraltar thing but if so 'speed' and/or and 'intelligence' would have been more industry appropriate.

I mean, the Kia one looks a bit better than the old one, but Trent Reznor might not be pleased and no way does it read as K I A

I think the WB one isn't too bad as far as these things go. It's just a bit of a throwback. Usually logos without shading and gradients and beveling and and that kind of crap are better imo.

Josefa, Wednesday, 20 January 2021 02:03 (three years ago) link

the GM one reminds me of this fancy top shelf ice cream brand that uses chemical symbols for their flavors ... Like Pb for Peanut Butter Stracciatela

The Kia one looks like a stretched version of the Nxivm sex cult brand -- the one the women got

sarahell, Wednesday, 20 January 2021 02:48 (three years ago) link

any company that goes from upper case to lower case letters in its logo is a washed up company that refuses to age with dignity. it has the same impact of a 60 year old wearing clothes featuring the supreme logo.

treeship., Wednesday, 20 January 2021 03:07 (three years ago) link

i agree about the kia nxivm-inspired logo. that is a company trying to build new associations in the mind of the consumer. exploiting neurolplasticity. growth hacking.

treeship., Wednesday, 20 January 2021 03:08 (three years ago) link

sarahell's comparison of "gm" to fancy ice cream logo is otm.

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 20 January 2021 03:14 (three years ago) link
