I felt like that was a pretty ponderous way to introduce a standard small-town dictator storyline. That's kind of been my beef whenever I get bored with the series, it could be told with less Darabont-DOYOUSEEness. It's kind of like a series that missed out on cable TV's storytelling progress of the last ten years?

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Tuesday, 30 October 2012 03:19 (eleven years ago) link

that was ponderous to you?

scott seward, Tuesday, 30 October 2012 04:17 (eleven years ago) link

i feel like they crammed a whole lot of stuff into 44 minutes or whatever.

scott seward, Tuesday, 30 October 2012 04:18 (eleven years ago) link

As someone who digested the first 70-something issues of the comic over the course of a few days, one of my biggest complaints is the amount of time the show has taken to get to major turning points! But then, the first season was truncated, and the second one too talkative. I haven't seen the new season yet, was just reacting to the first appearance of complaints.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 30 October 2012 11:45 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, bearing in mind you're talking about six years of the comics there...

Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 30 October 2012 11:58 (eleven years ago) link

I just realized that the walls of the town that they mentioned 5 times might not only be to keep zombies out. They keep people in too!!!

bnw, Tuesday, 30 October 2012 13:41 (eleven years ago) link

Subtle. "We are all the walking dead," etc.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 30 October 2012 14:01 (eleven years ago) link

How many times did the Michonne actress' script say stares suspiciously in it. About as many as the governor's said averts eyes enigmatically and the same number as blondie's said drops one more level of defence against the governor's charms

Some awful "looks" exchanged throughout.

At this stage part of the show's theme of people benefiting from this new and crazy world seems to include Andrea waking up in a world full of her anarcho-fascist dream date.

Still enjoyed it though, great gore once again and the last scene was cool.

I'm just O_o that Andrea would latch onto psychopath govnah so quickly. I mean, I guess if Shane was her thing then he must be a fascist dream come true but yeuuuuuch

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 30 October 2012 21:02 (eleven years ago) link

it did feel pretty lame and rushed. like couldn't he have told a story about his dead wife beside a fire in the next episode or something. that would have been enough to seal the deal and remove her initial suspicions

Heterocyclic ring ring (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 30 October 2012 21:04 (eleven years ago) link

I'm still half wondering if he has his wife and child's heads in that aquarium

I didn't think to look at the time

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 30 October 2012 21:04 (eleven years ago) link

I wasn't surprised Andrea took so quickly to the governor, he offered her exactly what she wants, a safe place, a community, friends, etc.

JacobSanders, Tuesday, 30 October 2012 21:07 (eleven years ago) link

not to mention all the undead heads preserved in formaldehyde she desires

Heterocyclic ring ring (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 30 October 2012 21:09 (eleven years ago) link

psychopathic tendencies...

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 30 October 2012 21:09 (eleven years ago) link

andrea & michonne kinda bore me on their own, they need to get back with the main group imo

turds (Hungry4Ass), Tuesday, 30 October 2012 21:09 (eleven years ago) link

zombie heads and alfalfa for the rabbits

Heterocyclic ring ring (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 30 October 2012 21:10 (eleven years ago) link

did the two chained zombies like rape michonne or something? just based on her reaction when andrea quizzed her.

Heterocyclic ring ring (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 30 October 2012 21:11 (eleven years ago) link

i assumed they were related to her, because they were black

turds (Hungry4Ass), Tuesday, 30 October 2012 21:11 (eleven years ago) link

in the comic one is her boyfriend and the other a good friend

ornamental cabbage (James Morrison), Tuesday, 30 October 2012 22:25 (eleven years ago) link

I'm wondering if they're setting it up for Andrea to be playing the long game - good prisoner to Michonne's bad prisoner. But it would be pretty lame if they went that way without Michonne apparently being clued in.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Tuesday, 30 October 2012 22:38 (eleven years ago) link

Andrea seems to self-involved to play a long game? idk. Be good if she was.

Well damn.

Gukbe, Monday, 5 November 2012 03:37 (eleven years ago) link

man, i am really happy they got the memo about things moving too slow on this show

Nhex, Monday, 5 November 2012 05:32 (eleven years ago) link

so Lori choosing to give birth/die was like... one of the most gobsmackingly stupid things I've ever seen in my life? I guess cool that they're dropping all the dead weight though. I meant I just I don't even I mean what I mean

Anyways good luck feeding that baby I guess?

Clay, Monday, 5 November 2012 12:49 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah that scene was kinda dumb. That baby's going to be dead weight though.

Also RIP T-Dog, an extra even in death.

yup, golf clap for AMC's rationing of minority characters

Nhex, Monday, 5 November 2012 13:47 (eleven years ago) link

if Lori hadn't done that, and the baby died... would it have gone zombie inside of her?

Great "WHAT'S IN THE BOX" impression by Rick at the end. That dude is kind of a terrible actor.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Monday, 5 November 2012 16:34 (eleven years ago) link

rick's actor is a total ham, but i like him anyway

turds (Hungry4Ass), Monday, 5 November 2012 16:40 (eleven years ago) link

Echoing lolzy treatment of T. I had been thinking that they really had to give him some kind of character this year, with a little arc, but no, they couldn't be bothered. Just killed him.

Gukbe, Monday, 5 November 2012 16:41 (eleven years ago) link

yeah i kinda love Rick's hamminess too

Nhex, Monday, 5 November 2012 17:47 (eleven years ago) link

it was funny because only 5 minutes earlier i was thinking 't-dog's gonna be ok, they cant kill the only black guy'

turds (Hungry4Ass), Monday, 5 November 2012 19:23 (eleven years ago) link

I just started the third season, and wow, that first ep was great. Very much akin to the relentless, anything-goes vibe of the comic, and it didn't skimp on the gore, either.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 5 November 2012 19:25 (eleven years ago) link

Not reading thread because I'm only half through season 2, but -- what is the actual mode of new zombie production? Like, it seems like when zombies find a live human they eat the whole thing -- so what's the mechanism by which e.g. Sophia returns as a zombie? Like, when they caught her they just took a bite and then left her alone so she'd go zombie? Why?

Guayaquil (eephus!), Monday, 5 November 2012 20:17 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah some are so eviscerated that you wonder but I guess we just assume she got a bite and ran away, and then eventually turned when she was on her own.

Gukbe, Monday, 5 November 2012 20:20 (eleven years ago) link

Maybe some savvy zombies at work?

S3E2 pretty great, too.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 5 November 2012 20:24 (eleven years ago) link

eephus - there is an explanation by the end of the season

Nhex, Monday, 5 November 2012 20:25 (eleven years ago) link

really? is there a whole mythology and whatnot going on? i thought it was just "oh shit zombies" and then let it play.

Gukbe, Monday, 5 November 2012 20:27 (eleven years ago) link

/never read the comic books

Gukbe, Monday, 5 November 2012 20:27 (eleven years ago) link

That explanation explains some stuff, but not why there would be partially eaten zombies milling about. Zombies generally members of the clean plate club, you'd think.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 5 November 2012 20:30 (eleven years ago) link

ah, it's just part of their bizarre dichotomy of having SUPER STRONG JAWS AND TEETH but their other body parts get taken off by a gust of wind

Nhex, Monday, 5 November 2012 20:55 (eleven years ago) link

OK, S3E3 was kind of crap, but it did an OK job conflating two comic book story lines.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 5 November 2012 20:57 (eleven years ago) link

Thank goodness this show isn't airing under the Bush administration, or even its heaviest heavy handed bits would be even more heavy handed.

Also, we'd have Bush.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 5 November 2012 20:58 (eleven years ago) link

that was a discussion last night - if Lori hadn't had Maggie do the impromptu c-section and the fetus died, would it turn into a zombie (because we're all infected!!!!) inside of her, or would it have just been a stillbirth since it was never born and thus not a person and only people can be zombies?

would have loved a show that decided to settle the abortion debate that way, tbh

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Monday, 5 November 2012 21:09 (eleven years ago) link

by the show's logic i gather we'd have gotten zombie lori + zombie baby, which would've been V-levels of amazing camp

Nhex, Monday, 5 November 2012 21:15 (eleven years ago) link

I wish I had a clip of that zombie baby from The Soup this week, that was so good.

Sug ban (Nicole), Monday, 5 November 2012 21:22 (eleven years ago) link

we're not going to be shocked with Lori turns up again alive and the boy didn't shoot her, are we?

Gukbe, Monday, 5 November 2012 21:26 (eleven years ago) link

not really, but i doubt it... i mean that kid is plenty shaping up to be a stone-cold killer

Nhex, Monday, 5 November 2012 21:34 (eleven years ago) link

There was a zombie baby in Zach Snyder's "Dawn" remake!

Did Carol actually die or not? Can't work it out.

With Lori gone I won't any longer be bugged by her inability to tie her hair back even though it obviously would get in the way all the time.
