Greg Nicotero pointed out on the Talking Dead aftershow that the Lori-eating zombie even had a lock of Lori's hair hanging out of it's mouth, which I didn't notice (and am kind of glad I didn't see) O_o

Pretty sure the ep that showed Merle up on his post, picking off zombies on the periphery of Woodbury, had someone fetch him his gun, which he attached to his stump before he started taking out walkers.

What was most creepy was that, during the scene where the Governor was combing his undead daughter's hair, what sounded very like a piano version of Serge Gainsbourg's "Lemon Incest" was playing in the background

If that is true then I'm sure it just holds the gun there? I doubt they'd be unrealistic about it.

is it me or is Merle not as awful this time around? I remember his character being the worst thing about the entire show first season, now he's just kinda there

thought it was a bit silly that the governor abandoned his tentative woodbury tour in favour of taking andrea on a date to watch merle beating seven shades of shit out of another beefcake in a cage made of zombies

that character is always gonna be maddening. the dude you have to worry about on top of all the man-eating monsters trying to kill you. you just want them to die so badly. tim robbins kinda set the modern bar high with his crazy dude in war of the worlds.

sooooooo those guys from philadelphia who bit the dust last season they didn't live in this town did they? i'm guessing not. i don't have a good mapquest sense of how far everything is from everything else. how far is the prison from the town?

If they had just established maybe one episode prior that the zombies become complacent when they can no longer bite, than why were the arena zombies still in attack mode with their teeth removed?

I felt like the complacency is something they learn over time or become conditioned into? Like, they *become* complacent in the situation with Mishonne, as her captives and eventually become docile... but these fightclub zombies had their teeth removed what, just the day before...and are still place in a situation where they're encouraged to bite. So they're not really being conditioned not to, so of course they're still going to try. I dunno if that's what's actually going on or what but that's how I interpreted it.

i think you're on the money there... also it makes a nice metaphor for what seems inevitable for this town

last shot of Michonne holding the basket in the pack of zombies clutching the fence was nice

wait nothing else to add? anyone? i think this might have been my fave episode yet. first thing you have to remember though is: ALWAYS shoot merle if he comes up to you on the street. plus, come on, GO BACK was pretty good as a sight gag.

phone call from the grave, man. phone call from the grave. would actually be really cool if he did go completely insane. like full bughouse insane. and they have to cart him around babbling all the time. but sadly you know he'll just shake off his insanity.

Whoever does their sound design should get some props for making that call sound creepy. Numbers station creepy.

andrea is so annoying. she'd be duped into falling in love with captain hook if he was on the show.

I never minded Andrea too much - on a show of badly written characters she didn't really stand out - but these past two episodes she's really become annoying.

the suicidal thing and her and dale bugged me. who cares. its the end of the world. either kill yourself or go get some firewood or something. totally do not miss dale by the way...

Yeah, nine months or whatever on the run from zombies, protected only by a taciturn amateur samurai, would probably fuck you up, but don't really know what happened to Andrea during that span. Also, she was annoying beforehand. Too many demons for a second-tier character to carry.

thoughts:

that Governor and Maggie scene seriously creeped me the hell out - maybe because i knew how much worse it was in the books

reaaally hope they don't kill off Glenn, as i always suspect whenever they suddenly give a character a push

also glad Rick's group didn't stand there and deliberate on killing the crazy hillbilly

i really, really hope there's a good payoff to Andrea being so oblivious, but it's unlikely

Guv and Maggie stuff really really uncomfortable. Kind of glad they pulled back if it was worse in the books.

oh god yeah Guv/Maggie was so hard to watch. really terrifying. and the way Guvna messed with Glenn at the end by kissing Maggie

love that rick and the gang stormed into a guy's house, murdered him, threw him to the zombies and made their escape out the back

felt like that dude's backstory should be a webisode or little comic or something

loved the way the zombies set upon the dude afterwards, like the way they swarmed the horse in the city in the first season

they were probably pretty hungry at this point

Just catching up on last week's (skipped the one before that). Don't mind the phone stuff (knew it from the comic). Hate every scene with Andrea and Merle, none of which go anywhere. They're stuck in circumscribed character loops.

Wait a minute, what the fuck was up with that hermit who has been living in a shack a mile from Woodbury for, what, a year? Was the script five minutes too short or something, and one of the writers was all, hey, what if they get trapped in a shack with a hermit for five minutes!

Rest of the staff: "Yeah, that's a great idea! What then?"
Writer: "Then? Then ... uh ... the hermit goes nuts and they throw him to the zombie horde!'
Rest of staff: "Awesome! What then?"
Writer: "Then ... everyone leaves?"
Rest of staff: "Awesome!"

Also, what the hell, next week is a midseason finale? Does that mean there's going to be a long break before new episodes resume?

Also I don't know if the Hermit death showed Mishonnes skillz or tough/merciless decision making skillz. Not sure why Rick and Daryl aren't as jumpy around her as they were with crazy ponytail inmate. Only difference is he was a little more outwardly nutty and dangerous before shit went down. I guess there was more of an alpha struggle going on in that situation.
