Not sure if you're looking for filmstrips AND/OR 16 mm films - but Amazon sells a box set of the old ones - http://www.amazon.com/Educational-Archives-School-Locker-DVD/dp/B000654ZFA/ref=pd_cp_mov_3
There's probably a way to rent it from somewhere too ...
I kinda wished I had organized some sort of Chilxors 'library people' 'meet and greet' this week, 'cause my kid sis is in town and she does some cool special collections work at Oregon St. U. She probably would like to commiserate on the state of digital preservation from school to school (or libraries in general).

the ones i want haven't been collected yet as far as i can tell -- they're time lapse nature cinematographyi wish someone else had bothered to collect them for me!
― passion it person (La Lechera), Monday, 10 December 2012 21:07 (eleven years ago) link
Maybe you should find collect and release them! or at least put them on youtube.

i gotta find them first! one step at a time.

I use Connexion, which is related to WorldCat but I'm not sure how, other than that OCLC is the organization behind both databases. (All I know is that a couple of years ago we were instructed to use Connexion instead.)

(Not a librarian, but I am a researcher.)
― Sax Blatterday (jaymc), Monday, 10 December 2012 21:42 (eleven years ago) link
I thought Connexion was only for catalogers? At least the only time I've ever used it was in my cataloging class.
― doctor, doctor, give me the news (askance johnson), Monday, 10 December 2012 21:44 (eleven years ago) link
Yeah, I think Connexion relies on the WorldCat database but includes additional cataloging information. I'm guessing that it's preferred here because the primary reason we use OCLC is to verify bibliographic information.

As do I. LL and I are fans. Well, not "fans," but fascinated by him, at least.
― carl agatha, Tuesday, 11 December 2012 16:06 (eleven years ago) link
insomuch as i am frequently fascinated by things that are totally repulsive

OTM
― carl agatha, Tuesday, 11 December 2012 16:20 (eleven years ago) link
That's what drives like 75% of my casual interests. "How repulsive! I will now spend the next six months of my life learning all about it!"
― carl agatha, Tuesday, 11 December 2012 16:21 (eleven years ago) link
Okay, there's actually quite a few messages to the potus. And the first couple of hundred pages are warnings to various countries about how they are sinful etc and how they must repent or jesus aka son @hm@n will smite them etc. Some of these sins are vague, but a lot of them are abortion, homosexuality, etc.
He accuses the people of Denmark of partaking of the "sins of Sodom, and of immorality and sorcery".
He also states that the "immoral practice of men and women bathing together" must cease in japan.
And yet some of his proclamations are pretty cool, like he orders Turkey to stop persecuting the Kurds.
also, I must note that the book is actually 900 pages, not 300 as I erroneously stated yesterday.
― doctor, doctor, give me the news (askance johnson), Tuesday, 11 December 2012 16:40 (eleven years ago) link
Oh god, he also says the Spain should send messengers to the us and that it should "cause thy influence to be felt on behalf of my servant w@rr3n j3ff$."
― doctor, doctor, give me the news (askance johnson), Tuesday, 11 December 2012 16:42 (eleven years ago) link
...Spain?
I like the shout out to Japan, where everybody apparently takes baths together all the time?

In other words, book delivers.
HEY so our own n/a posted an excellent best of 2012 playlist on the Spotify and it's awesome (except for one song I don't like, but still that's a very high success rate) so I am hoping that jaymc and LL and whomever else has also compiled such lists and will post them here. hint hint
― carl agatha, Tuesday, 11 December 2012 16:51 (eleven years ago) link
He sure has a lot of worldly opinions.
Lots of stuff I liked this year isn't on spotify, but I have a little list of albums.
― passion it person (La Lechera), Tuesday, 11 December 2012 16:58 (eleven years ago) link
ha what was the song you didn't like?
― congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 11 December 2012 17:07 (eleven years ago) link
i'm wondering whether it's a misogynist rap song or just a dumb punk song
LOL no I really like all the misogynist rap. I LOVE that Schoolboy Q song. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I was trying to describe it but then it came on - Kush Ain't Loud. Really repetitive vocals sometimes give me the jim jams and this is a prime example. I just really, really want him to stop saying "kush ain't loud." STOP. STOP SAYING IT.
― carl agatha, Tuesday, 11 December 2012 17:13 (eleven years ago) link
oh yeah that is footwork music from chicago. i love glitchy repetitive vocals and i like how that song gets more souled out later on.
― congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 11 December 2012 17:18 (eleven years ago) link
I like repetitive vocals too -- it's words as sounds rather than words as meaning. I like that.
― passion it person (La Lechera), Tuesday, 11 December 2012 17:21 (eleven years ago) link
are you waiting for the streetcarare you waiting for the streetcarare you waiting for the streetcar
I don't always hate repetitive vocals, and I don't even think I can quantify what it is about this song that gets to me, but it's the same kind of irritation I get when somebody keeps tapping on the desk over and over and over or repetitively clears his throat.
― carl agatha, Tuesday, 11 December 2012 17:23 (eleven years ago) link
fair enough!

Yes! My playlist -- which I've been compiling all year -- probably won't be finalized for another couple of weeks. There's a few things I haven't heard yet, and year-end lists are cluing me into some stuff I didn't know about. And then, of course, I have to sequence it. But I promise I will let you know when it's ready.
― Sax Blatterday (jaymc), Tuesday, 11 December 2012 17:38 (eleven years ago) link
I just really, really want him to stop saying "kush ain't loud."
Haven't heard that one, but man I hated Lil Wayne's "A Milli" so much. Could not see why it was so beloved. A MILLI A MILLI A MILLI A MILLI A MILLI. Although I was into it when Girl Talk mashed it up with "Steppin' Out."
― Sax Blatterday (jaymc), Tuesday, 11 December 2012 17:40 (eleven years ago) link
mine isn't finalized either, i'm still fiddling with it and adding to it, and i'm not going to bother sequencing it - i assume people will just hit shuffle play anyways
― congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 11 December 2012 17:42 (eleven years ago) link
Spotify has ruined any sense I have of what year music came out.

I was listening to Ride the Lightening this morning. Was that this year?
― Jeff, Tuesday, 11 December 2012 17:49 (eleven years ago) link
haha see, as you know, jaymc, I LOVE A Milli. So who knows what my g d problem is.
Anyway, John, hurry up.
LL, I would like to see your list of albums.
xp I noticed that, Jeff, and thought that was kind of unusual.
― carl agatha, Tuesday, 11 December 2012 17:52 (eleven years ago) link
I feel like it's totally predictable, but it's predictable because it's what I have been yapping about all year. I starred tracks I like too, but those are just my personal favorites.
For instance, I think this is one of my most repeated songs but who knows if anyone else will love it as much as I do.

Since I broke out of my multi-year depressness, I no longer hate music, but I still have a knee-jerk reaction of hating it, but then I remember that that's fixed.

If you don't give a fuck about sequencing, it's on Spotify already. Might still add or sub out some tracks, of course.
― Sax Blatterday (jaymc), Tuesday, 11 December 2012 18:34 (eleven years ago) link
idgaf about sequencing. Are you jaymc on there? Assuming I can figure out how to add people?
― carl agatha, Tuesday, 11 December 2012 18:37 (eleven years ago) link
No, seriously, how do you add people? I've managed to add five people throughout my Spotify career, but now I can't find a "find people you know" or "add friends" button or anything.
