That is perhaps the only angle of Naha that obscures the endless ocean views (looks like it's taken from the Crowne Plaza). You can kind of see the horizon on the middle-left.
This is more reminiscent of Naha, from my last visit:http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lr8c5ffttM1r2m6v9o1_1280.png

nice
it is definitely a place i want to visit (despite my dislike for hot humid climes)

Nice. The Okinawan people and culture are really amazing. But yes it is quite hot and humid.

I looked and thought France (lack of steeples, European architecture), never would've narrowed it down to St. Etienne though

tbh I didn't even know st. etienne was a city, but I was scanning france in google maps and I had some vague recollection that ye olde ilxors liked that band.

i've been to st etienne and i would not have recognized it. in my mind it's a city where it's always gray and sooty. mining city cliché.

the wide boulevard, and there's a familiar looking (for some reason) highrise on the left
― great wallogina (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 9 May 2013 13:00 (eleven years ago) link
the boulevard does suggest a newer city (not that the ccp is afraid of eminent domain)
i used to know the names of every largish city and there is something dispiriting about finding out about all of these places like shangrao with 5m people and i know nothing about them

my friend, when travelling in China, reported that when he talked to people on trains and asked where they were from he would regularly get replies like "oh a place called Haikou, you wouldn't have heard of it, only 2m people live there".
