I could feel the bass in every fibre of my body. Totally sick and awesome.

I would rather heat my liver with drinking.

So, anyone going to ATP: The Fans Strike Back, May 8-10 2009, where the reformed Sleep are playing Holy Mountain and selections from Dopesmoker & more...?

I almost bought St. Vitus last night but was scared away by worries it would sound thin with no bottom end. Do they?

I was looking at the live album (only one the store had) and thinking of the thrash I'm accustomed to that has nothin down there.

haven't heard that one, actually.

the best thing sleep ever did was accompany those white trash kids prowling around their trailer park on their dirt bikes. their albums were tedious, meandering crap that were basically black sabbath remix records

I'm tired of Sabbath songs but want more Sabbath sounds hence Sabbath The Genre aka stoner metal you know?

"Wrong"

I haven't heard Holy Mountain, but Dopesmoker/Jerusalem doesn't quite do it for me. I think Conference of Birds is my favorite thing from the whole Sleep/High on Fire/Om axis.

I guess, but these guys are a low-rent knockoff. It's not like it is with Beatles, how they paved the way for a much better and much more transcendent band with better music, lyrics, and singing quality-- Oasis.

save your accolades for someone more deserving than this old, washed-up troll. i just hope that in my death, my decomposing flesh will fertilize the soil for the growth of a troll more worthy than me.

btw, is Geir Hongro a troll? He seems to fit squarely within this narrow definition.

Pantheism F. Mohair (res), Monday, 10 November 2008 23:00 (fifteen years ago) link

Sleep's entire output is great.

Vision, Monday, 10 November 2008 23:08 (fifteen years ago) link

I was a fan of Asbestos Death and Sleep Volume I. When Holy Mountain came out, I initially felt like it was a tasteless Sabbath rip-off.

Years later, I've come to realize that Sleep does a lot of things Sabbath never did. Sure there are some very obvious riffs/nods, but it's in tribute. There are all kinds of techniques and directions employed on Holy Mountain that Sabbath never would have touched.

Having said that, I think the first High on Fire record is the best thing any of these guys has ever done.

I liked it when someone from ATP said on this very board that the UK ATP shows were the only ones Sleep would ever do, ever, and poured scorn on me when I suggested they might ever want to play another show, ever.

It would have been better with burger sauce (aldo), Sunday, 12 September 2010 15:55 (thirteen years ago) link

If there's one thing 2001 - 2010 taught as w/r/t reunions it's "Never say never."

Badmotorfinger Debate Club (MFB), Monday, 13 September 2010 00:27 (thirteen years ago) link

Think the ATP people have been using the "Oh, it's not the original drummer *this* time" as a get out clause.

Wandering Boy Poet, Monday, 13 September 2010 12:24 (thirteen years ago) link

xp and if there's one thing an ilxor with his place of work in his username taught us as w/r/t "is he going to be a shill for ATP y/n?" it's "y"

yeah but they're all $330 each! fucking ticket sites are such a scam. I should've drilled down my search results more and just gone here, where they are in fact $50: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sleep-saturday-gamh-w-grayceon-tickets-50364070290#tickets
