If you can't be bothered to read the books, fuck your "uh spoiler" crybaby bullshit.

don't be such a loser, it says NO SPOILERS in the title, what's wrong with you

Slowly getting through S2, feel like they made Joffrey too evil, it's boring to watch any scene w/ him.

I don't think it's possible to make Joffrey too evil

Sorry. I just get riled up by the general public's illiteracy and lack of attention span. These are some of the best written popular books on the market, and people have to wait to see what happens on TV?

Loving Lil' Stark & Grandpa Lannister

This was my least favorite aspect of S2. Tywin Lannister is not a cuddly grandpa!

we're not exactly talking faulkner here dude, set your snob-sights a little higher

zero dark (s1ocki), Thursday, 31 January 2013 22:35 (eleven years ago) link

yeah seriously, i can't wait to read all of these in 6 days sometime and prove my literary mettle.

REVERSE SNOBBED

i'm appalled that the general public refuses to take its medicine and read a bunch of sleazy airport paperbacks

zero dark (s1ocki), Thursday, 31 January 2013 22:38 (eleven years ago) link

it is kind of bullshit if you love the show and consider the books beneath you. They're just better. I'm not going to get het up about it though

Number None, Thursday, 31 January 2013 22:40 (eleven years ago) link

don't even consider them beneath me, just know they are something you read at the pace of a sports biography rather than joyce or whatever.

Ballboy to Afghanistan (LocalGarda), Thursday, 31 January 2013 22:42 (eleven years ago) link

plus tv is a more generally easy medium than literature.

Ballboy to Afghanistan (LocalGarda), Thursday, 31 January 2013 22:43 (eleven years ago) link

not to even open that can of worms... just basically am surprised someone would lambast people from above for not reading this series of books.

Ballboy to Afghanistan (LocalGarda), Thursday, 31 January 2013 22:43 (eleven years ago) link

I like the show but I'm not into fantasy enough to set aside the time to read 4000 pages on Westeros instead of 4000 pages of stuff that's already in my lineup and more my thing.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Thursday, 31 January 2013 22:44 (eleven years ago) link

the books aren't fine lit, but they are absolutely better than the tv show. Most of the places where the tv show deviates from the novels are missteps.

Moodles, Thursday, 31 January 2013 22:45 (eleven years ago) link

guess you haven't gotten to the 4th one yet

zero dark (s1ocki), Thursday, 31 January 2013 22:45 (eleven years ago) link

since the tv show hasn't done the 4th book yet, it remains to be seen whether they can improve upon it or not. I'm not super optimistic. I guess they could find a way to make both the 4th and 5th books shorter, that would be an improvment...

Moodles, Thursday, 31 January 2013 22:48 (eleven years ago) link

they should take the 4th and 5th books and condense them into the first 10 minutes of the 4th season opener

zero dark (s1ocki), Thursday, 31 January 2013 22:49 (eleven years ago) link

BTW, I got copies of the first 4 books for Christmas and am eagerly looking forward to re-reading them

Moodles, Thursday, 31 January 2013 22:50 (eleven years ago) link

the showrunners seem pretty savvy, i have some faith in them to cut the bullshit when they get to the parts where the books slow down

ciderpress, Thursday, 31 January 2013 22:50 (eleven years ago) link

hopefully so, but they've found ways to add in their own bullshit, so it will be tricky.

Moodles, Thursday, 31 January 2013 22:51 (eleven years ago) link

so the fact that I haven't finished book 3 even though I'm halfway through it basically makes me a war-criminal y/n

no way show significantly better than these terrible books

The New Jack Mormons! (kingfish), Thursday, 31 January 2013 22:57 (eleven years ago) link

mildly entertained by this show, could not give less of a fuck about the books tbh

Welcome to my world of proses (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 31 January 2013 22:57 (eleven years ago) link

More or less everything good in show is straight from the books, and they've added a lot of questionable shit. You're kidding yourself if you think otherwise

Number None, Thursday, 31 January 2013 22:59 (eleven years ago) link

ppl who like the books must be liberally skipping sentences, paragraphs and entire chapters of tedious, boring, repetitive prose

Mordy, Thursday, 31 January 2013 23:00 (eleven years ago) link

the books are pretty great imo but i prefer the show slightly

christmas candy bar (al leong), Thursday, 31 January 2013 23:00 (eleven years ago) link

i like both. more lemon cakes in the books which is nice

zero dark (s1ocki), Thursday, 31 January 2013 23:24 (eleven years ago) link

they are both pretty much exactly equal in terms of quality

Books don't have terrible sexposition scenes

Moodles, Thursday, 31 January 2013 23:43 (eleven years ago) link

lol

Seriously those last two books could have easily been one book.

The show does a pretty good job of paring down the books, so I actually look forward to seeing them condense the 4th and 5th.

bleh (latebloomer), Friday, 1 February 2013 00:02 (eleven years ago) link

The TV Show comes out a measured pace, it might even finish by the time the books do - if I buy the existing books I'll just be jonesing for the next five years.

Andrew Farrell, Friday, 1 February 2013 00:40 (eleven years ago) link

It's true, reading all the books and then wondering if this nonsense will ever be resolved is basically the worst
