Dave Matthews Band: Name Your Reasons Why They Are So Bad & Overrated.

27 The Velvet Underground. The Who pretty much wrote the first power ballad with Behind Blue Eyes. And just because they didn't use "big" words or could articulate their musical goals like Cale or Lou Reed, doesn't make Moon, Daltrey, or Entwhstle any less instinctual of musical geniuses. Just less pretentious in my book. I don't see Townsend as any more pretentious than Lou Reed.

29 The Doors. With the exception of "LA Woman" and "The End" (and thats mainly cos Apocalypse Now used it to great effect), this band were boring session musician noodly bollocks with a fat drunk who spouted a bunch of gibberish that everyone mistook for profundity

33. Green Day

Before American Idiot, Green Day was an impressive young band, blending pure punk with delicious melodies, cranking out songs such as Brain Stew and Good Riddance. But after 2004, they ceased to be a band and became a franchise. It was no longer a musical entity as much as a stadium-selling appearance. Dozens of bands tried to follow their example and are partially responsible for the dearth in punk rock today.

34. Dave Brubeck: Just got this CD. It's supposed to be one of the most commercially successfully jazz CD ever. But I didn't hear a track that is instantly likeable, other than Take Five. So how can it be so commercially successful? As a matter of fact, it sounds more like an audiophile demo disc. What gives?

38. Pavement.Everywhere I look there are rave reviews for the band Pavement. All the critics seem to love them. Well, I actually listened to them for the first time yesterday and it was sad. The guy can't sing, he doesn't even try. They're instrumental is boring, depressing

41.Hüsker Dü- A lot of actually good bands name check them. I wonder if those bands realize they are probably way better than these guys? My problem with really lo-fi bands is that the sound quality is just so crappy that they have to be really good to produce enjoyable music. I guess it's almost unfair to judge them on the same scale. But I will anyways.

47. Public Enemy.Ok first of all, im no one to criticise seeing as that I havent actually havent listened to much Public Enemy, but from what i've heard they're just OK. I think Chuck D has some good rhymes but Flavor Flav wasn't really doing much for the group hence them in my opinion being over rated.

49 Arcade Fire
Intervention (Merge)

Now, as a shallow, undereducated hick who could never hope to understand the long words on Pitchfork Media or a fraction of Win Butler's complex reality, the only level on which I can relate to Intervention is as an above-average song from a disappointing second album by a massively overrated band. And one which features an organ, for which there can surely be no place in pop music. But don't listen to me; I'm so ill-refined I'm about to be nice about Good Charlotte.

50 Barney the Dinousar. It astounds me that this series has been running for about two decades now and hasn't gone extinct yet. I concur with others who think the same. It's high time for this to end now. I don't know if I can truly consider it overrated. Overrated by who? Other than the majority of children maybe. Surely not us older viewers. But it definitely has been overexposed for the longest.

51. The beatles are not the only sucky band, but they are the worst sucky band overrated and propganda-d (is this a word?) into morons of the world. They also ripped off the Rutles. The only thing good about the beatles is Yoko Ono. She broke them up early.

(I also refuse to capitalize the beatles. That would infer some form of importance.)

Actually when the beatles first came over they had some harmony and a little bit of talent, singing mostly happy, peace, and love songs. Then they quickly got drugged out, started to really suck, and sing mostly about drugs and being stoned. This is funny because a lot of beatles fans will get enraged and threaten to kill you if you say they suck; ergo to reiterate about the peace and love theme of the beatles.

What I hate about them most are the brain dead retarded drugged out dirty hippies whose only arguments are they were the greatest band ever, and they influenced ALL music forever with no facts or evidence. Then they call you a brain dead retard just for simply saying you don't care for the beatles.

4 British panzies with the help of the media and advertising did all of this in just a few years.

Now I know how Clinton and Obama got into office!

53 The Rolling Stones. To me they are no more than just overrated jerks who write melodically dead emotionally dry music. The most overrated band I know of, actually. The Rolling Stones receive way too much praise and credit for everything from influence to the quality of their hooks. I'd give them a one at best. That said, there are a bunch of Stones songs that I do like (even a couple that I love) and I can easily say Beggar's Banquet is a really good album, but for the most part they really leave me cold. Sorry, this is just how I feel.

5 Nirvana - Wow... basic chord changes and suicidal lyrics, how profound.

Many of Nirvana's chord progressions were pretty non-standard. Even on a poppier track like "Lithium", the modal mixture is pretty clever.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Sunday, 10 February 2013 18:44 (eleven years ago) link

55. Sex Pistols- Manufacted by Malcolm McLaren. They were basically talentless but very stage-managed. They had maybe two decent songs "Anarchy" and "God Save the Queen", but when you compare them to the Clash it's like comparing Kid Rock to Beastie Boys; one has a smidgen of talent and new ideas and the others are the real thing. The band's reunion tour shred whatever integrity or punk attitude they had left and made me respect the Clash more for refusing to do one.

56 Elvis Presley - the king? NOT! I'm sorry, this one I really don't see what's all the big deal about...he didn't do something new, something revolutionary! what he did whas something that a lot of black guys did before him! only cause he was white and all the little girls screamed for him made him famous! I mean he even didn't wrote his own fucking songs! 100% overrated

57 Miles Davis where did this guys learn to play their instruments? Walmart? maybe they should try tuning their guitars BEFORE recording the album. the material is lacking. this band displays a deficit in quality with mix of atonal rhythms and eclectic presentation while their overall structural foundation has proven essential to the ecology of musical landscape all across the board i would give all albums an absolute one star if not the worst i have heard this year.

64. The Spice Girls are very lucky and very overrated. None of them can sing and their music is not half as good as Girls Aloud's. Spice Girls appealed to little girls. It wasn't good music - mums would buy the albums for their kids - it was all about the gimmicks.

If the excerpt is any indication, then Finnissy did indeed defecate on stage. I'm sorry, life is simply too short for this kind of clattering nonsense. Five-and-a-half hours? As the old sayings go, the Emperor has no clothes, and if Finnissy should ever run across something resembling a melody, or development of same, he ought to write it down.

The Avalanches. They are just OK to me, most of their somehow legendary album sounds muddy and unfocused. They do have a few decent tracks admittedly.

Unlike Spiritualized. I tried several times to see what the fuss is about, they have never once given the slightest indication of being more than hugely dreary and derivative.

I've been aware of Fantano as a name that crops up every so often in places on the internet where music discussion is taking place, but I've never once understood why people consider his opinions worth paying attention to. I've never once found myself interested in what Fantano thinks about... well, anything. I did watch a couple of his reviews a couple of years ago and I didn't find what he had to say particularly enlightening or engaging. Just as well, since apparently according to this thread he's a bit of a douche.
