based on the large # of ppl standing outside of union park/cobra lounge this weekend who were basically throwing postcard flyers for riotfest at people and shouting REPLACEMENTS! i don't have very high hopes either.

Kevin Griffin made his professional debut in 1995 as the singer and songwriter for New Orleans-based Better Than Ezra. Their debut record, Deluxe, went double-platinum fueled in part by the success of the #1 Modern Rock track “Good”. The band’s follow up record, Friction Baby, went Gold and contained two Top 10 Modern Rock tracks. 2001 brought another Top 10 Hit with the single “Extra Ordinary”, and in 2005, BTE had a Top 10 Hot AC hit with “Juicy”.

Most recently, Kevin has been writing and producing for a variety of artists in Rock, Pop, and Country. Kevin has two songs on the most recent Sugarland CD including the #1 Country hit, “Stuck Like Glue”. Old Town is bad about putting sellout notices on their site proper, I've had the same thing where it doesn't show up as sold out until I actually go to buy a ticket.

I put this on the Chicago thread but Bottomless Pit (ex-Silkworm) is doing a free in-store at Saki on Sunday that I'll be attending. There are DJs and food too I think.

i don't know why i bothered starting this thread but hey here it is and i'm trying to plan ahead

burlington shows ime start on time, but somehow I always ended up going on like thursday nights so maybe they run a tighter ship on school nights to keep the neighbors happy?

So an unexplained 90 min delay is abnormal? I'm still grouchy about Friday.

i should have asked that question 30 years ago, really.

I remember being blown away when I first moved to Chicago at how punctual the shows were. Shows in Richmond would routinely start an hour or two late. It sucked.

I think it's nice that there's a predictability to it -- you can trust start times, generally, almost regardless of venue (but I don't really go to like ~underground warehouse venues~ or whatever, mostly established venues where i have gone alone and not felt weird). also i think it's respectful toward musicians, who also deserve predictable working conditions.

I was kind of weirded out when I visited how punctual a show at the Metro was! I almost missed all the openers.

you learn that lesson 1x or at the most 1x at each new venue
i asked about the burlington bc i had never been there and i was bored to death for 90 minutes while i waited for the 3 bands to start
and then i got mad bc i went with the understanding that things start at/around (within 20-30 min) of the advertised start time
then i left and didn't see the bands i arrived on time to see (i got there at 9, maybe a few min after)

LL, I wish I lived in Chicago -- you would never lack for somebody willing to go to live shows with you.

i don't mind going alone 95% of the time and people do go with me occasionally
it's not bad unless i just sit there doodling on my grocery list for 90 min waiting for anything to happen

but thank you! there is no shortage of shows to see around here, that's for sure.

Also I have had a fine time at Burlington since I had the above experience. I think it just depends on the show/crowd.

Bought single weekend pass to this today (it's 'spensive), may buy onesy-twosey tix for my wife or a bud as March commitments become more clear. Would love to say 'hi' & hang a bit La Lechera (compare drumming notes - crossing my fingers for a tambourine for my set for Xmas). Stoked for Night Beats, and of course, Faust, Royal Trux, & Bitchin' Bajas.

I'll be at Thalia for Killing Joke too Feb 9. For some reason, I plug into the Chicago show 'early warnings' more during the Holiday season. I'm just thankful that I live in such a music-rich city. I think 'stoked' is my most used ILX word, because of threads like this.

I saw you last year at this thing for like 5 min! I also think I may have seen you at the EB this fall but I can't remember which show - Windhand maybe? I'm thinking of getting the weekend pass as a holiday gift to myself. Talking drums is always fun!! Also RANGDA.

Anyone thinking of hitting Levitation Fest CH,ILL 2016 should do so 'cause Lightning Bolt has been added & they rule-ith. I'm a bit nervous about balancing some work projects & the 3 day pass, but I think it will be worth it, esp. as the top acts each day have face-melting performance potential. Would love to chat tunes w/ other ILX'rs if any go.

I'm pretty dang excited for Sabbath & Tommy Stinson next week! Anyone heading to either of those? Bummed Killing Joke show cancelled.

gonna be back at the Green Mill this weekend (Fri/Sat) for Mardi Gras. looking forward to catching some Sabertooth (at least the first two songs).
