yeah mike schur mentioned that she supported bush and apparently is very anti-gun control

Ha, now I'm wondering if the joke in one of the early episodes about her character wanting more white patients because they'd be likely to have insurance was less satirical than I interpreted it to be.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Sunday, 31 March 2013 18:46 (eleven years ago) link

yeahhhh i'm sticking to my dud vote lol

Nhex, Sunday, 31 March 2013 18:47 (eleven years ago) link

I like to be the voice of reason.

She plays with her Harvard grads gently, as a kitten plays with a ball of string, hoping that someday, maybe, with her able coaching, they may learn how to think criticially.

Aimless, Sunday, 31 March 2013 18:50 (eleven years ago) link

by voice of reason she may mean like this

she says she's conservative by her office's standards, and that her parents (but not nec her) are republicans. she's probably just a contrarian w/ a couple right wing positions. i bet she voted obama bc he loves drones. tbh it only makes me like her more.

Mordy, Sunday, 31 March 2013 19:02 (eleven years ago) link

she was a ron paul supporter

balls, Sunday, 31 March 2013 19:09 (eleven years ago) link

i'm not listening

Mordy, Sunday, 31 March 2013 19:11 (eleven years ago) link

All I saw online was that she tweeted that she liked Vince Vaughn more because he supported Ron Paul. Is there more to it?

EveningStar (Sund4r), Sunday, 31 March 2013 19:35 (eleven years ago) link

she's a vince vaughn supporter

About the most conclusive bit of evidence that anyone's found, and it is as vague as all the rest, is that she once wrote on her blog "what most people don't know about me is that I am way conservative." I like that she used the wholly juvenile "way" as a modifier instead of "very". This is a clue as to what variety of conservatism she subscribes to, which is apparently not linguistic.

i liked the detail about mindy not knowing what the charlie brown pumpkin special show was. i had to wait til college when somebody made me watch the charlie brown christmas special to find out who charlie brown was and why people still kept on watching this boring crap

乒乓, Monday, 1 April 2013 21:45 (eleven years ago) link

jk, i now love the charlie brown christmas special!

I don't watch a lot of TV but I like this show.

o. nate, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 21:31 (eleven years ago) link

said this on another thread, but I spent several weeks being mildly amused by her show before thinking to myself "this is like an unlikable version of Scrubs" about 6 weeks ago and I haven't watched an episode since

cougar town is the real scrubs redux

Mordy , Wednesday, 8 May 2013 21:37 (eleven years ago) link

mindy is definitely the star of this show, they lean too heavily on morgan for non sequitur hijinks, i like danny, i don't really care about any of the other characters

乒乓, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 21:38 (eleven years ago) link

can't believe she is a republican. i don't know anything anymore.

Treeship, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 21:38 (eleven years ago) link

I agree from the standpoint that underneath the riffmania you can see actual lines of affection and care between the various characters, whereas The Mindy Project seems to be built upon barely restrained loathing undercut with one likable goofball

keep in mind I don't think that a show has to have likable characters to be enjoyable or funny (#TeamBundy), it's just... there are points where I go "lol I can totally see some ppl I went to college with doing something like that" and then vast swathes of "this is kind of like watching aliens attempt to create a sitcom"

far too much asshole flesh (DJP), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 21:43 (eleven years ago) link

I agree the writing's a bit uneven and the supporting cast needs to be developed a bit more. The best and most original material seems to revolve around the Mindy character's life, whereas too many of the supporting cast are a bit one-dimensional. There are enough good bits in each show to keep me watching though.

o. nate, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 21:46 (eleven years ago) link

chloe is on the mindy project

Mordy , Wednesday, 8 May 2013 22:01 (eleven years ago) link

this staten island stevie episode may have been the worst half hour of television i have ever watched

乒乓, Saturday, 11 May 2013 16:42 (ten years ago) link

i feel like some sitcoms start with a pretty small core cast and then slowly branch outward to a larger ensemble or lots of familiar recurring characters, and then there are shows like The Mindy Project that start with way too many people, some of which will be quietly phased out to little protest during 'retooling' between seasons. w/ this show it's more frustrating than usual because the whole thing is supposed to be a star vehicle for one person but she surrounded herself with a security blanket ensemble.

seanpennderizer (some dude), Saturday, 11 May 2013 16:59 (ten years ago) link

Also, it was weird to me that the last two episodes have ended with dudes fighting over Mindy. It seems a bit repetitive.

The last of the famous international Greyjoys (Nicole), Saturday, 11 May 2013 17:09 (ten years ago) link

Who fought over Mindy in "Triathlon"?

EveningStar (Sund4r), Saturday, 11 May 2013 18:57 (ten years ago) link

Not saying you're wrong; I just don't remember it. If anything, I thought they were fighting over Morgan.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Saturday, 11 May 2013 18:57 (ten years ago) link

The charm is fading a little for me but I'm still watching. I found it a little weird that they were strongly hinting at Mindy-Danny finally happening, esp in "Santa Fe" and then seem to have dropped that altogether. Maybe it's intentional but it's not working to develop suspense or anything for me. (New Girl is handling the relationship stories much better imo.) Casey's pretty boring to me and everyone knows it won't work out anyway.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Saturday, 11 May 2013 19:00 (ten years ago) link

Scrubs was more fast-paced and absurd, I thought?

EveningStar (Sund4r), Saturday, 11 May 2013 19:05 (ten years ago) link

yeah i have no idea how this show is like Scrubs other than it's a comedy about doctors (but less much so about that than Scrubs was).

seanpennderizer (some dude), Saturday, 11 May 2013 20:52 (ten years ago) link

she's really cute w/ short hair. also i kinda love this show.
