Very excited about the show tonight!

From the Ecstatic Peace website:

June 16, 2006
From Elisa: "The bets are in that the month long US Pillage Tour won't last more than a week and a half, and we're hoping to beat the spread. With stridently pro-gay rights roughneck trio Lambsbread, the online-slots-addicted Markers plan a swath of rust and airplane glue fueled invection to pay back their gambling debts, with 'vitamin shots' from their own Dr. Feelgood, Steve Gunn of GHQ. Tastemaker David 'D' Arby' Keenan had this to say of the 'Bread: 'amphetamine-hyped Mainliner gobbling speed-balls of beaming white light' and one kid this one time was like, '...whoa, I didn't know they were playing no fun.' But play they did, lathering the beer-gummed masses into an intense, stomping ecstasis and speeding up Schumann Resonance with just one show. The Magik Markers: well, we think some douchebag on a message board said it best when he posted, '"I Trust my Boobs and Vagina to sell Records, etc."' Amen Brother! So put on your leather shorts, fasten up your Antares Auto-Tune Pitch Correcting Plug-In, wheel yourself down to your local BPOE and catch Pillage Fever. Catch it!"

Ha-ha!!

xgurggleglgllg (xgurggleglgllg), Thursday, 6 July 2006 23:23 (seventeen years ago) link

yeah, that's not too surprising, since a member of MM apparently showed up on this thread and responded to my assessment of the one show I saw:

DC tonight: NOISE AGAINST FACISM

Alex in Baltimore (Alex in Baltimore), Friday, 7 July 2006 01:09 (seventeen years ago) link

so how's it feel to have your noise card revoked?

like murderinging (modestmickey), Friday, 7 July 2006 01:55 (seventeen years ago) link

i wuz a bit bummed to see leah's gone when i saw them here. the last show i saw at nyu with that lineup wuz really cool. and now they have another guitar and a trumpet i think. others around me disagree tho, and like it more.
lambsbread were good.

noizem duke (noize duke), Friday, 7 July 2006 02:21 (seventeen years ago) link

what is a noise card?

gbx (skowly), Friday, 7 July 2006 02:21 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't know if I ever actually had a noise card, I never really read the pickle bar board or anything.

Alex in Baltimore (Alex in Baltimore), Friday, 7 July 2006 02:31 (seventeen years ago) link

no noise card means you don't have to go to carousel when your mental age hits 20. freedom!

I enjoyed them live yeeears ago (2001). Was kinda fun. But records and current live shows are just so...average.

Sara Sara Sara, Thursday, 18 October 2007 15:11 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah, but they've now perfectly ressurected the spirit of 1985.

The poncey songs are nice.

W4LTER, Thursday, 18 October 2007 22:08 (sixteen years ago) link

Awesome fucking album, great band.

That said, I'm not fond of the album's mix. The drums deserve better, and the vocals are a tad too loud in many places (very distracting). You can tell they wanted to be all like "Elisa IS a great writer, see? We told you so"! Also, she seems a little too concerned with rhyming...I enjoy her free-form rants more. They need to mix in a fucking 20-30 minute jam on their next outing instead of limiting themselves to such traditional song lengths.

I sound like a hater, but trust me, I love this album. They never cease to surprise me, and I think we are still far from seeing all this band has to offer. They're one of the few bands that excite me nowadays. I just think they still need some polishing for the official releases. At the least, they need better engineers in the studio.

brightscreamer, Friday, 19 October 2007 01:15 (sixteen years ago) link

you're right about the rhyming.

Lee Ranaldo has turned Thee Magik Markers into a 3rd rate Cat Power. Those drums sound like cardboard boxes.

Homework Undone, Friday, 19 October 2007 20:16 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah, but they've now perfectly ressurected the spirit of 1985.

This sounds intriguing. How is it like 1985?

I love the current Markers action, they are just a great band.

Pretty good interview with Elisa in Rookie Mag of all things (no slight, just don't read it much and this is the first time I have been pointed their way for a weirdo music thing): http://rookiemag.com/2013/11/magik-markers-mirrorless/

I want an Elisa solo album ala Jim Morrison's An American Prayer, where it's mostly just voice

Haven't even heard the record yet, just relating to the last few shows I have seen, which I loved. Gotta go listen to the record I guess.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 15:24 (three years ago) link

Yay...the album starts off great like that with a couple of hazy burners until it leads to the shitty beach where they roll around in the sand and it gets in their guitars and they have a great time. Still taking in the sweeter parts of the album, they haven't clicked as much for me

black dice live ft. jerry garcia (rizzx), Thursday, 5 November 2020 09:05 (three years ago) link

Headphones! I find myself dancing along to Find You Ride and kitchen pogoing to That Dream while the rest of the album is great to zone out to. Headphones!
