osha actress was in About A Boy and I still think, "good on her, doing more things". Although she was in Harry Potter as well now that I think of it.

Also realised last night that the torturer of Theon is from Misfits, which puts that show at 2, tying it with Skins.

Gukbe, Monday, 6 May 2013 23:59 (ten years ago) link

cool ep, boss speech from littlefinger which i hereby vow never to paraphrase irl

ricky n bianca at the end didnt feel so cheesy mainly cos as soon as you see the show lay it on thick with hope now then you immediately wince for the expected tragedy

have literally no idea abt theon's torturer ("bolton's bastard"? when was he previously referred to?) but those scenes are boring now, get on with it

uh, and Hollyoaks

Number None, Tuesday, 7 May 2013 00:24 (ten years ago) link

If they weren't in the very last scene of Hollyoaks before Channel 4 news, I never saw them.

Gukbe, Tuesday, 7 May 2013 00:28 (ten years ago) link

Nathalie Emmanuel was in Misfits and Hollyoaks

Aaah, I get it now.

Gukbe, Tuesday, 7 May 2013 00:32 (ten years ago) link

no but Daenerys's previous maidservant was also in Hollyoaks

I don't actually watch it that much honest

The one who was locked in the big empty vault at the end of S2? Tbh I figured there would be some ex-Hollyoaks actors being fed into the minor-role-nudity machine.

did jon snow introduce Cunnilingus to just the wildlings, or some larger part of the seven kingdoms?

mizzell, Tuesday, 7 May 2013 01:09 (ten years ago) link

Wait, I thought "Cunnilingus" was a place, now I'm totally lost.

Evan, Tuesday, 7 May 2013 02:34 (ten years ago) link

Jon Snow INVENTED cunnilingus.

Really wish they'd cast a better actor, because I'm not feeling any chemistry from his end with the Jon/Ygritte ship.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 7 May 2013 03:55 (ten years ago) link

That picture comparing him to Hodor kind of set me down the road of disliking him, also, his inability to act.

Gregor Sansa (Leee), Tuesday, 7 May 2013 04:03 (ten years ago) link

I'll tell you what I do like, and that's Tywin and Olenna. In fact, I like Tywin and anyone (especially if their meetings didn't happen in the books, cos then it's like some kind of fantasy scenario).

Gregor Sansa (Leee), Tuesday, 7 May 2013 04:10 (ten years ago) link

Olenna so far has just been a series of one-on-one conversations with everyone in King's Landing.
All she needs is Joffrey for the complete set.

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 7 May 2013 04:51 (ten years ago) link

But Varys is right, too: Chaos is a pit. Sometimes instability and uncertainty are not your friends. So let’s talk about Ros and the cruel and abrupt way her story was snuffed out. I’m sickened but not surprised by how little Joffrey and Littlefinger regarded her life. Woman, prostitute: These are not categories of people that either of these men have much feeling for. But I am surprised by how cheaply the creators of the show valued her — especially since she’s the one major character wholly created for it.
Since the death of Ned Stark, we all know that menace simmers just below the surface of every conversation, every meal, and every courtly turn about the palace grounds. Like Tywin, the pitiless plot machine of Game of Thrones does not discriminate: Everyone is in peril, all the time. And sometimes, the oblique view is the fresher view; not every big moment needs to be underlined by crashing music and dragonfire and High Valyrian. But dispatching Ros under a voice-over, and then using the image of her violent death as a preamble to Sansa’s weeping, felt reprehensible. Ros’s arrow-pierced body is Arya’s target-practice effigy come to life — or death, as the case may be. Her eyes glassy, her face turned away from us, the camera lingers in the room long after Joffrey has left, to run itself along her corpse in its filmy dress. In an episode that already had one stomach-churning scene of shocking, needless torture, did this one accomplish anything new?

I thought the way it was done was more shocking and fitting for the way people viewed Ros.

Gukbe, Tuesday, 7 May 2013 05:09 (ten years ago) link

Am I right in thinking that Ros was totally innocent and the spy who blew Littlefinger's plan was actually Shae?

Matt DC, Tuesday, 7 May 2013 07:55 (ten years ago) link

No wait that doesn't make sense either.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 7 May 2013 07:59 (ten years ago) link

Wow, a lot of fucking around with the book last night …

If you tolerate Bis, then Kenickie will be next (ithappens), Tuesday, 7 May 2013 08:40 (ten years ago) link

xp - No, I think it was Ros that'd been squealing to Varys. I thought the whole scene was a good and timely reminder that Littlefinger (who doesn't seem to have actually done too much in a while) has got his finger absolutely on the pulse, that he is more than capable of playing Varys at his own game and that he is just as merciless and dangerous as all the other players.

Obviously it also demonstrates how casually Varys, for all his talk of being a guy working only for the good of the realm, throws comparative innocents into the line of fire without unduly worrying about it.

I really enjoy that whole angle of this second sub-level of political maneuvering between Littlefinger and Varys beneath the high-level posturing between Tywin and Tyrion and Olenna and Robb Stark / whoever else. No one seems to be keeping close enough eyes on the pair of them, given how clever and influential they are.

Not too bothered about the casual way of writing Ros out as I was never especially keen on her anyway. Not essential to anything happening in the plot, too often used for clumsy exposition, basically an opportunity to get a pair of naked breasts into every episode regardless of what else was going on.

I thought the Theon / mystery man torture stuff was fine as well, but admittedly that is with the benefit of having read those scenes in the books. And the climbing-the-Wall scene was very good. Solid episode

Windsor Davies, Tuesday, 7 May 2013 08:57 (ten years ago) link

Yeah I'd forgotten about the scene where Ros showed Varys the ship manifest.

The scene on the wall is fantastic and hopefully John Snow is over it for good now because all that endlessly wandering around in blizzards was getting fucking boring. Kind of assuming that, at some point, Rob Stark is going to be basically legally required to execute his brother for having deserted the Night's Watch?

The scene with Olenna and Tywin was straight up awesome.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 7 May 2013 09:04 (ten years ago) link

check out the osha actress irl on youtube btw, woof

what does your "woof" signify? not being smart, just curious as she is sort of hilarious imo. an interview i saw she was all geezerish accent talking about how she thought osha should have had a really "hairy minge" and was annoyed the crew didn't give her enough notice to grow hers in time for the naked scene in s2.

"Rob Stark is going to be basically legally required to execute his brother for having deserted the Night's Watch?"

Except the Night Watch is completely fucked now, right? It's like moving away suddenly and not telling your job then when you get back you're not sure what will happen except nothing does because the job was at Border's.

Evan, Tuesday, 7 May 2013 14:29 (ten years ago) link

Real revelation I got from the Osha interview is that Hodor DJs on the side.

certain this is covered upthread but the band played the potter premiere and did a cover of the theme from super mario. by all accounts she's a bit of a wildling in real life.

Tioc Norris (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 7 May 2013 16:00 (ten years ago) link

Her acting on GoT annoys me because she seems incapable of ever speaking without cocking her head at an exaggerated angle. Who does that?

Moodles, Tuesday, 7 May 2013 16:01 (ten years ago) link

She's never experienced cunnilingus? Xpost

Gukbe, Tuesday, 7 May 2013 16:01 (ten years ago) link

the phrase "a bit of a wildling in real life" is making me laugh and i don't quite know why.
i guess i am imagining wildlings commuting on the subway, hanging out at the bar etc.

i guess i'd just rather listen to canned heat? (ian), Tuesday, 7 May 2013 16:08 (ten years ago) link
