I liked when Arya was like "I don't like her" (about Melisandra) and dude was all "that's because you are a girl"

I don't know that I'd want to base my marriage on any from Westeros. Even with Catelyn and Ned, Catelyn didn't even want to marry him but eventually came around to liking him. And that's probably the best marriage out of all of them!

Why would you want to base or compare any real life circumstance with something from a fictional story?

they could've had 3 scenes with theon total all season and they would've achieved just as much as they have. this time was definitely gratuitous in just about every way possible. grrm wrote this one and i imagine he has been disappointed with the full frontal noodz count in s3 so far.
― Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 13 May 2013 13:43 (ten years ago) link
Agreeing with the two posters above, too much pandering to the 15 year old king demographic at the minute.
― Dust, Monday, 13 May 2013 14:22 (ten years ago) link
fyi theon doesn't actually appear in book 3, these scenes have all been written in for the show, and it shows

aside from theon's scene this was a p good episode!

The bear scene was terrifically exciting, very well done indeed. Also loved Tywin & Joffrey and the the dragons this week.

I was anticipating that happening. Didn't, though.
I don't mind the nudity usually - I embrace it! - but, wow, the Theon scene was so ridiculous and obvious. 'Ooh, you're going to get good times - haha, not really; we're going to torture you instead!'. Big surprise. I suppose that was the point, but... why bother?
Yeah, good episode again. I can't believe Ygritte would be that naive abt buildings, tho?

yeah the writhing girls went on for so long and I was like, "look, I don't know if sadoboy is going to come in here with a stretching rack/ wicker man & bee helmet or if the girls are going to pull out a roll of needles and go 'Audition on him but can we just get this whole thing OVER with ragh'

Yeah, good episode again.
eh I dunno. aside from the stuff chap mentioned in his post (bear pit, Tywin/Joffrey scene) I didn't get much out of it. most of the plotlines seem to be spinning their wheels although Melisandre bringing Robert's bastard to King's Landing seems to be going someplace interesting. Rob, Theon, and Jon Snow are all super boring right now.

i would not have guessed the population of kings landing at 500k

no that seems off
― Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 13 May 2013 17:14 (ten years ago) link
King's Landing is extremely populous, but rather unsightly and dirty compared to other cities. Its population is estimated at more than 500,000,[15] although this number varies during winters and in times of war, when people take shelter behind the city walls. George R. R. Martin has stated that the city is larger than Medieval London or Paris but smaller than Medieval Constantinople or Ancient Rome (each had a population of about 1,000,000).
― mizzell, Monday, 13 May 2013 17:16 (ten years ago) link
i thought everything was good except for theon's scene. nice to see jon get an injection of spine for a moment there, and clarke is starting to fall way behind sansa actress in the terribleness stakes as dany's character develops. i will say i am surprised by the extent to which they are stretching some things out - there was definitely more scope for things to actually happen this season and that has been sacrificed in the name of timing as much as anything, to have things happen at certain points in the season and to leave things in a certain place at the end of it.
― Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 13 May 2013 17:22 (ten years ago) link
hmm sorry if that is too books-y for this partic thred
― Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 13 May 2013 17:23 (ten years ago) link
the fact that grrm thinks that kings landing would be bigger than a mediaeval london or paris is the problem really, there is no reasonable basis for that imo except, yknow, this is fantasy so fuck it i guess
― Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 13 May 2013 17:25 (ten years ago) link

xp probably mechanically challenging. she could dip a crown in oil and light it, but it wouldn't burn for very long. or i suppose she could build a little fire inside the crown and have someone drop twigs in there throughout the day the keep it going.
― Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:20 (ten years ago) link
also i think her survivng the bonfire is supposed to be like a one-time miracle and not necessarily a sustained superpower
