Son, I can barely even leave the house without telling old and/or Facebook about it, it is a minor miracle I kept my trap shut.

Some people believe watching a television adaptation of an adult fantasy novel is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that.

Tywin sent him off to arryn to secure the territory as an ally by marrying Lysa iirc. He left several episodes ago, with his big "chaos" speech being delivered over a montage that ended on his boat leaving the harbor.

xpost Not seen the latest ep yet. So Sam found a knife did he? When we watched the one a few weeks ago we were both "WTF? You dropped the knife, son! You'll be needing that." Grrr.

We were but to be fair the scene cut with them running away but not very far. What could have come directly after was them going "shit! fucking birds... anyhow lets go back over there get some sleep in the shack, I left all of that stuff that has been keeping us healthy and fed since we left, you know, food? That stuff that I, Sam, am totally capable of gathering and/or hunting in the the tundra for myself, a new mother, and a newborn? Oop- shouldn't forget this..." (picks up knife)
― Evan, Monday, 10 June 2013 11:28 (ten years ago) link
that was an odd season closer. instead of the traditional 'here is some shit to get excited about for next time' it was more 'hey don't forget about this stuff you may already have forgotten about'. and that last scene was a stinker.
― Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 10 June 2013 12:08 (ten years ago) link
With the penultimate episode ending on such a crashing crescendo, this was more quietly positioning the characters again and brewing up new developments. I'm looking forward to seeing Theon's sister and her brutish army wrecking havoc if nothing else, and Cersei and Jamie being reunited is interesting. The last scene was ehh, but ending on the dragons has become the tradition. This time they obviously thought the dragon's-eye view of the crowd was enough. Ehh.
People are still hung up about Sam leaving that blade?

There was too many boring little 1 on 1s in a row. Halfway through I was too distracted to pay attention by worrying nothing would happen before the episode ended. From what I heard there are some book developments that would have closed out this episode in the same vein as the excitement that closed the other two finales. Don't know whether that is true.
I am excited that Stannis is the first to focus efforts on the incoming army of the dead/white walkers.

My wife didn't realize that Reek and Theon were the same person in the books and spent a good chunk of the episode yelling at that scene "THAT NEVER HAPPENED! IT'S DIFFERENT IN THE BOOKS!" It was cute.

― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 10 June 2013 15:50 (ten years ago) link
so the reek thing as i understand it, and just skip it if it's spoilerish, is that theon re emerges later in the books as another character and all the torture scenes in the show are just implied? so those sequences are just to keep the audience aware theon's out there and to titillate with some funtime torture?guilty lol at the greyjoy carved cockbox tho; i can't be the only person who thought of deathdrone

i'm curious if Roose knows that his bastard is writing letters to the Greyjoys, making demands etc. (if they stated this i could have missed it as my friend's headcase gf was talking over the episode almost non-stop).

don't think they made that clear. Bolton told Walder Frey "but my bastard has his own way of doing things" and then they cut right to the pork sausage scene. def. implied that he knows about the torture but maybe not about the letters, i dunno.
― dmr, Monday, 10 June 2013 16:58 (ten years ago) link
Yeah the context of that remark was both the taking of Winterfell and Theon torture. I'm sure Greyjoy threat requires Rooses input.
― Evan, Monday, 10 June 2013 17:10 (ten years ago) link
My impression was that now that Bolton is the Warden of the North, he's letting Ramsay take care of the Ironborn problem.

He is, but iirc it kinda happens mostly in flashback? Or at least with Reek remembering it, as opposed to actual flashback. Maybe I've got that wrong.
But I think Forks has it pretty much right, these early stages of torture (as in, immediately post-capture) aren't shown so far as I recall.

yeah its tough to get involved in the reek/ramsay storyline bc theon is a fuckin cunt, its heavy handed torture porn and it concerns a part of the world thats basically been looted and sacked and the owners of it all got murdered.

don't think this season was brilliant overall - still enjoyable but they're having problems telling all the stories at once, it could do with a few more episodes, the red wedding was obv shocking but that's just a one-off massive event which only serves to make it more uneven as a whole.
