man that sucks, can we have some non-shitty news on here? :(

lots of irrelevant non-musical stuff happens to artists. lots of ppl are robbed, the story is that it's a video & the grossness is that it's been done with/for a huge online audience. you post it because ppl are posting it, but it's also participating in that grossness. the pretense is in pretending we need to see it, that there's some journalistic value to watching a kid get beaten up.

i'd say there's some journalistic value in recognizing the the place a lot of the kids come from that we troll for Content(R) from the comfort of our computer screens is pretty awful.

recognise it by taking part in it? i don't think most of the ppl spreading this on twitter have any salutary intent. they're participating in a violent, public humiliation. not sure this points to anything special about parts of chicago so much as the oh-so comfortable internet.

i'm sure there'd be a point at which you'd decide a video was too gross to post on here, i think this is already over the line. no one's pretending it doesn't exist any more than they are w/ sex tapes or nude pics that we refrain from posting here.

I'm not against D-40 posting it, it's just a really shitty thin to happen, and kind of a shitty video in the way they slow down and repeat parts of it like that.

deej, I think a lot of the issue here is you posted the video with no context or warning of what it was, which was a pretty tactless thing to do, especially given the rather voyeuristic presentation.

damn, as someone who has been dealing with a back injury while playing gigs over the last year, i feel for him. the new album is so good.

Very unfortunate to hear about his injuries, but I heard Double Cup today and it is something. I could listen to Let U No for days on end.

Double Cup is amazing.

its nice and everything, but teklife vol 1 was much better imo.

What I love about this music is how spare it is. It's almost a challenge, musically, to latch onto things, and yet the songs progress, go through changes just like normal music. I always find myself surprised at how LOUD the snare and hi-hats are, like someone who was blind might be surprised to see how bright light was for the first time. Watching the youtube videos of people dancing to this stuff makes it clear why it sound the way it does, but as a writer of music, and appreciator of new dance music, juke/footwork is like a faberge egg: specialized, seemingly of little use to non-devotees, and utterly unique.

(also, as to making music, I find this style of music EXTREMELY applicable to genre-fuckery. You can add almost anything to a juke template, and make it into a different kind of song. For some reason, this doesn't annoy me the way, say, dubstep or disco reworks might).
