All I have to say for now.

Will take me awhile to decide if the songwriting is as good as on Necroticism or Heartwork, but this is definitely proper.

this record is making every other record i thought was a good record this year sound boring

I still own my Heartwork cassette!

Oh man! Can't wait to hear this

Pingu Unchained (dog latin), Wednesday, 21 August 2013 22:05 (ten years ago) link

I refuse to listen to the leaks on principal, since the prospect of a new Carcass album is something that I've dreamed of for over a decade and I want to listen to it the way I would have in 1996.

already have the shit on pre-order and if UPS is one minute late dropping that thing off, i'll do sick medical shit to them that was only hinted at on Reek.

Neanderthal, Wednesday, 21 August 2013 22:19 (ten years ago) link

^^yes, agreed

prepping 4 frenzied detruncation of mailman

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Thursday, 22 August 2013 00:11 (ten years ago) link

so the new exhumed sounds p. much like the 'grindier' still-melo album some reviewers of the carcass were wishing for.

j., Saturday, 24 August 2013 21:04 (ten years ago) link

kinda feel like I've heard so much mediocre imitation grind that hearing Carcass go back to that style in 2013 woulda been....dull.

they went the right route IMO.

Neanderthal, Saturday, 24 August 2013 23:08 (ten years ago) link

two weeks pass...

Vocals aside, Mount of Execution could totally be by Megadeth.

just changed to "Shipping Now" on Amazon.com. so excite.

yeah yeah I know I could have heard this thing online for weeks now but I'm tryna experience this like it's still 1996

Gahhhhh now I really wish I could go to one of their one-off shows next week. would love to hear these tunes in a live setting.

Neanderthal, Tuesday, 17 September 2013 21:50 (ten years ago) link

i broke down, but i'm excited to go home and crank up my physical copy and pretend like its the first time again

Seeing them this weekend. Looking forward most to hearing the new stuff.

A. Begrand, Wednesday, 18 September 2013 01:05 (ten years ago) link

it's a great record, will be trying to see them live in the UK...

Neil S, Wednesday, 18 September 2013 11:10 (ten years ago) link

Only London gig announced so far is a support slot for Amon Armrest, who I'm not massively keen on, sadly.

that's a "Mindcrime" if there ever was one

Neil S, Thursday, 19 September 2013 11:24 (ten years ago) link

album is A+

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Friday, 20 September 2013 14:04 (ten years ago) link

I think my current fav is The Master Butcher's Apron

Neanderthal, Friday, 20 September 2013 14:05 (ten years ago) link

Mine is A Congealed Clot of Blood. The solo is like emerging from a dark tunnel into an endless desert made of skulls.

otm

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Friday, 20 September 2013 16:59 (ten years ago) link

the title of that is hilariously conservative for them, i love it

esp using "a".

*A* congealed clot of blood. lol.

I really love Steer's playing all over this disc. He has one of the most slippery sounding vibratos of all time.

Neanderthal, Saturday, 21 September 2013 02:46 (ten years ago) link

it is clear that they are having fun. that makes me happy.

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Saturday, 21 September 2013 03:19 (ten years ago) link

The guys were incredible in Chicago last nite. Tight as hell.

Jeff Walker is a treat. Such a lovable and amiable dude

Stormy Davis, Tuesday, 24 September 2013 20:21 (ten years ago) link

i was actually perusing Craigslist for a onesie ticket to the show, as well as planefare for a potential impromptu last minute trip. sadly, too difficult and costly.

glad they sounded good - what was the setlist like?

Neanderthal, Tuesday, 24 September 2013 20:27 (ten years ago) link

Their show in Calgary on Saturday was spectacular. They schooled post-2000 death metal so badly it made all bands younger than them look like rank amateurs.

A. Begrand, Tuesday, 24 September 2013 20:34 (ten years ago) link

Lotsa stuff from the new one, plenty from 'Heartwork', couple from 'Necroticism'

Not really any of the early grindcore; I don't really know if they visited 'Swan Song', because I have to admit I never bought that album. There was certainly some stuff I didn't recognize -- I'm not gonna front like I'm a Carcass expert.

They were fucking great though. Walker announced that they plan on a more extensive US tour with Gorguts next year

Stormy Davis, Tuesday, 24 September 2013 20:37 (ten years ago) link

oh wow, I'd totally see that. hopefully they hit up O-town next year. when I saw them at Deathfest, they played a lot of Reek/Symphonies/Necroticism in medley form, but I really want to hear the new stuff.

plus, y'know...GORGUTS.

Neanderthal, Tuesday, 24 September 2013 20:39 (ten years ago) link

i have reached the point where all the clarities of the songs are starting to come out and it's delightful

j., Tuesday, 24 September 2013 21:37 (ten years ago) link

yeah, by about the fourth listen that happened for me too. probably will be one of my favs of the last few years.

Neanderthal, Tuesday, 24 September 2013 21:38 (ten years ago) link

no i'm on 40 or so, until now i've just been blasting it and thrilling to all the noises

j., Tuesday, 24 September 2013 21:40 (ten years ago) link

yay, my Surgical Steel shirt came today!

so now I think my favorite may be Thrasher's Abbatoir. .

Neanderthal, Thursday, 26 September 2013 00:40 (ten years ago) link

holy shit Carcass / Gorguts tour next year? was this already known?

any of you insiders know when-ish or where-ish?

alpine static, Thursday, 26 September 2013 02:37 (ten years ago) link

yeah that is a supertour if I've ever seen one. absolutely love the new Gorguts (and classic era Gorguts is great too). Obscura is the only one I don't know well, mostly cuz I lost my copy.

Neanderthal, Thursday, 26 September 2013 02:45 (ten years ago) link

i got a say, as supertours go, i am pretty fucking excited for this upcoming High On Fire / Kvelertak / Windhand run

alpine static, Thursday, 26 September 2013 02:53 (ten years ago) link

I've had tickets that shows HoF were supposed to play twice. they dropped from the tour both times. I'm nervous now, lol

Middle aged metal bands are really only an inch away from the Elvis porcelain figurine stage of their careers.

Pfunkboy AKA (Oor Neechy), Sunday, 19 September 2021 21:12 (two years ago) link

This is not a good album.

It is a great one.

A. Begrand, Sunday, 19 September 2021 21:27 (two years ago) link

Otm. I am enamoured with it after five listens

you had me at "giallo" (Neanderthal), Sunday, 19 September 2021 22:18 (two years ago) link

less immediate than surgical steel but after a few days with it: probably better

STOCK FIST-PUMPER BRAD (BradNelson), Monday, 20 September 2021 16:02 (two years ago) link

kinda feel that way too. I'm also not burning out on this one. Surgical I played to the point of ridiculousness for a few months and I still can jam it and love it (in fact, it's going on next), but for a little while I was wiped out on it.

I think I'll be playing both back to back for a while. I love this band. and when I first saw them in 2013 I had no idea we'd get two new studio albums from them.
