this thread is giving me FOMO

Imagine Tom Petty walking under those skylights toward you, panes of sunshine moving across his face like neon passing over a chrome bumper moving down Sunset.

Blatant attempt to get into the striking visual imagery thread.

I prefer to think of him swinging like a monkey from that third floor porch

Odd fridge placement.

why is that fridge on a stage?

free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Wednesday, 14 August 2013 13:28 (ten years ago) link

Might make some sense if that's your main living room, the kitchen is miles away, and that fridge only contains types of booze. Coming from a voice of booze wisdom, here.

The completely empty shelves are freaking me out slightly more, tbh. I mean, why keep the idiosyncratic fridge placement and hideous decor if nobody lives there, and if someone is living there now where are their things?

xp

surprised to see nick cave apparently reading new right journal the new criterion

i wondered the same thing!!
is that horrible decor part of the package?
i thought it was a booze fridge too btw.

New Criterion used to publish a lot of poetry in the 80s

and some of it wound up in a filthy bedroom corner with a fully shod man

Haha, it might have just worked had it not been about TOM PETTY.

MIKE CAMPBELL: Hey, thanks for coming over. You want a beer? Lori picked up some Sam Smith this afternoon. I'll just go into the kitchen...

TOM PETTY: HAHAHA, YOU MEAN YOU STILL KEEP YOUR REFRIGERATOR IN THE KITCHEN?

Hard to really get a sense of the homes because the pictures are so tight on the musicians. From what I can see, I don't think I'd like to live in any of them. Beck, Watts, and Marriott all look like "my first apartment" kinda deals. Hendrix's furniture all looks uncomfortable. Tina has a a decent-sized kitchen though.

Jeff Beck's looks like a room in a student halls of residence.

...and my parents had some shelves like the ones in the Mick Jagger photo - they were the cheapest shittiest MDF imaginable, short of green chipboard.

New Criterion had a lot of coverage of modernist era arts back when I used to glance at it.

_Rudipherous_, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 23:44 (ten years ago) link

The original Criterion was started by T.S. Eliot after all, who some of us still read, though maybe not for his politics.

i have mixed feelings about looking at musicians' homes
on one hand, i want to see every tiny detail but also i cannot imagine such prying eyes around my home (not that anyone wants to see it but still) so i feel bad about looking

mambo jumbo (La Lechera), Wednesday, 8 January 2014 18:43 (ten years ago) link

guilt not necessary when the house is up for sale !

i.e. julian copes.

love some of the detail re his ..

the chairs with the names on the back.
the guitars fixed to the walls.
