The Quest to Stop the Pantsuit: NYC mayoral election 2013

as this thing goes on it's really shining a light on the division of opinion on Bloomberg between city elites (including all of the newspaper editorial boards that endorsed Quinn) and the rest of the population. like in the Times endorsement of Quinn their pitch is "she'll continue most of Bloomberg's policies, just with a few tweaks!" and that's supposed to be a positive. their write-up pushed me further toward de Blasio. and in the Times poll story today they acknowledge that people being fed up with Bloomberg is the reason de Blasio's ahead but it's kinda like they didn't see that coming?

upscale nyc liberals, and the times is their bible, live in as much of a bubble as tea partiers in the deep south...(i'm a lifelong new yorker and far far to the left)

Isn't there usually at least one traffic fatality a year at that parade? Of all the luck...

The Quinn papers are continuing to gun for de Blasio, but I read the Times piece about the outer-borough taxi plan and I will most certainly hold my nose when I vote for him. The lesson that always applies: THEY ALL SUCK.

Can we plz shoot Bloombito and "NY Didn't Really Feel the Recession" Catz into space together?

I'm leaning Stringer, Thompson (Bklyn DA) and maybe Letitia James (publ advoc) in the other races? Anyone?

Miss Arlington twirls for the Coal Heavers (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 8 September 2013 00:15 (ten years ago) link

wow, piece-of-shit Al D'Amato was actually campaigning with Bill Thompson. What a stench.

Miss Arlington twirls for the Coal Heavers (Dr Morbius), Monday, 9 September 2013 11:07 (ten years ago) link

That Bloomberg quote is just unbelievable. Makes me wish he was running just so I could vote against him.

re BdB's Hillary ties, I think P4reene has it right: "He worked for the Clintons, but he wasn’t enough of a raging prick to become part of the Clinton inner circle."

I thought for 3 seconds about voting for the comedian Randy Credico for mayor.

So who exactly appointed Erc Adams as the new Brooklyn beep by acclamation? Thank God it's a meaningless office, eh.

Miss Arlington twirls for the Coal Heavers (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 14:08 (ten years ago) link

I don't think deblahsio is gonna hit 40

iatee, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:43 (ten years ago) link

that quinn might not even be in the runoff is pretty astounding

iatee, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:44 (ten years ago) link

anything that hastens the end of identity politics re corporate shills is fine with me

Miss Arlington twirls for the Coal Heavers (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:46 (ten years ago) link

i'm calling no runoff. and that putz stringer is going to win...cannot stand him

Iago Galdston, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:50 (ten years ago) link

I'd vote for stringer over any of the mayoral candidates if he hadn't dropped

iatee, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:50 (ten years ago) link

and I don't think he'll win

iatee, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:51 (ten years ago) link

I feel we haven't seen the end of Spitzer's "flaws" (like strengthening john laws as guv, you fink) so i went for Stringer.

Miss Arlington twirls for the Coal Heavers (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 01:30 (ten years ago) link

take that, 'yankee fan'

mookieproof, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 01:32 (ten years ago) link

so BdB is at 39.6%, with 87% in? This could take days.

Miss Arlington twirls for the Coal Heavers (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 03:07 (ten years ago) link

Joe Hynes, Vito Lopez buh-bye

Miss Arlington twirls for the Coal Heavers (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 03:17 (ten years ago) link

Stringer beats Spitzer

de Blasio up to 39.9%. It looks like UWS, lot of the Bronx yet to come.

What a shitty person Leathers is, tbf.

It has been so weird to work on this city council campaign this last week and hear things from the inside. (Kinda been in the enemy camp but couldn't say anything until now.) Charter schools, yo. They are serious.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:40 (ten years ago) link

De Blasio's criticism of charter schools is one of the things that won me over. How serious he is about it remains to be seen, but most of the others are openly pro-charter.

#fomo that's the motto (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:45 (ten years ago) link

I had a conversation with a pro-Quinn friend about the race, and she said that a lot of the things DeBlasio is "progressive" on are things he has reversed his position on, but I figured I'd still take the guy who flip-flopped to the progressive side over people who aren't progressive at all.

#fomo that's the motto (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:47 (ten years ago) link

All the strategists/advisors that were working w my candidate (a whole separate story) spent last night being cranky about BDB's success.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:49 (ten years ago) link

I was secretly cheering, also I just loved watching them being stymied.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:52 (ten years ago) link

oh yeah, Hynes has the GOP line in November, so I guess Markowitz robocalls on his behalf are less likely then. Maybe the Hasidim will turn out to reelect him anyway.

de Blasio, such a LEFTY, w/ the big donations from Ratner and the wife who worked for Citigroup.

Miss Arlington twirls for the Coal Heavers (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 15:00 (ten years ago) link

The enemy of my enemy is my friend, tho. Oh, Students First takes a break from complaining about UFT for long enough to complain about BDB and repeat those "racist campaign" bullet points? Consider my interest piqued.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 15:04 (ten years ago) link

If there's a runoff I just hope Bill T hits the trail with Senator Fonzie Tomato every day.

Miss Arlington twirls for the Coal Heavers (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 15:07 (ten years ago) link

Anyone have any thoughts on Squadron vs. Tish James? I met Squadron and he seemed like a really nice guy, but I don't know much about either.

#fomo that's the motto (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 15:12 (ten years ago) link

I got a mailer from Squadron w/ Chuck Schumer's mug all over it, so I immediately dismissed him.

The only reason I'm not paranoid about the rich buying Lhota the mayoralty is BdB is not the kind of tin-eared goofball Mark Green was 12 years ago. NYT front page today quotes a banker: "I'm terrified."
