any of you oz ilxors live in sydney? i'm going for a wedding in february. all i hear about it is that melbourne is better... (even from the ilx archives)

im probably not going to the wedding in toowoomba now, otherwise we could have made it into a live 8 double stage hiberno-invasion
not that youise are lacking in the hiberno invasion stakes tbf

Sydney ilx0rs: me (travelling around the world at the mo but should be back sometime in January), KBP, QGP (not currently posting), edwardo, moley/ratty/Colin S Barrow/etc. gaz/mullygrubbr is retired from posting but also lives outside of Sydney. There are a few sydlx0rs who've never hung out on this thread or in the pub, too (eg ch, pt, nns). jabba h ditched us for his native Englands a few years ago :(
Melbourne's not better, that's just something people from Melbourne say. Both cities are great. Sydney has beaches though, and February is the last month of summer, so a great time for them if that's something yr interested in while it's cold & miserable at home. (If not per se, lots of drinking can be done in sunshine next to or close to water, both at the beach and in the city.)
Basically fappening can be what's happening, possibly in a nice restaurant. And I'll see what's on that week and give you a tip sheet or guided tour of Sydney clubs &/or warehouse parties. (The latter tend to be small and boutique, btw, not cavernous metal sheds.)

Melbourne was better until everyone there grew beards and started attaching toasted cheese-and-tomato sandwiches to parachutes.
Basically, as advised above, Sydney in February will mean a) going to the beach, b) enjoying a FAP near the water and c) marvelling at the ridiculously sunkissed postcard views.

fap sounds awesome. i'm basically going with my parents, negatives of being single lol. not a huge amount of family will make the trip due to the expense/inconvenience. i'm v close to my cousin who's getting married so i really want to be there.
so any excuse to have a few nights out would be great, awesome and all as my folks are. quite pleased about the idea of getting some hot weather in february - a great time to get out of the uk.

Yo.
I will be in deepest darkest country Finland doing kunst all December. Thinking London immediately after new years, then sticking around for a few months. Any plans Jan/Feb?
Though details are pretty scant at the moment this festival was amazing in 2012 http://www.ctm-festival.de/festival-2014/preview/ so thinking Berlin then.

ALL December? Literally? Because I think we'll be there mid-December. Like right around the middle of the month, more or less.

Sydney Rd in Brunswick must have the highest concentration of Bridal stores anywhere in the world. Denser that cafes in most other neighbourhoods.

I'm currently sat on a bench in Belmont park watching this Thai food festival get set up - srsly Sydney what is it with u and Thai food - and marvel at the diff btwn here and melb. the concept of weekend breakfast cafe culture seems a bit bereft up here. 9-10am and the CBD was dead as a dodo. so weird.
― the Bronski Review (Trayce), Saturday, 30 November 2013 00:07 (ten years ago) link
erm that's because the CBD is dead most of the weekend

Ah, ahoy the Toms from me. Will be hitting old London town once the time in the Shengen area gets perilously close.
Aside from that...
I'll be pretty much here:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Hahmaj%C3%A4rventie,+Haukij%C3%A4rvi,+Finland&hl=en&ie=UTF8&sll=61.563103,23.093348&sspn=0.012323,0.042272&t=h&doflg=ptk&hnear=Hahmaj%C3%A4rventie,+Finland&z=13
I don't think I will be able to make it to Helsinki from there (will need to arrange dropoffs, pickups, trains, and accommodation). Reckon you guys want to go to Tampere for an evening? It's two hours on the train. Helsinki is grebt by the way.
