I just watched two students from Switzerland tip the cashier at Burger King

You are kind, I am jerkface (DJP), Thursday, 26 September 2013 19:57 (ten years ago) link

how much?

乒乓, Thursday, 26 September 2013 20:12 (ten years ago) link

I couldn't tell, it was a "keep the change" situation but dude counted out a specific amount of money (including coins), pushed it across the counter and was like "no, I'm all set" and then turned to his friend like "see, I got this tipping thing!"

I am pretty sure they then went to sit down before their food was ready.

gangover over sam over (darraghmac), Thursday, 26 September 2013 20:28 (ten years ago) link

That's the thing I didn't get; Burger King is in Switzerland, right? Surely it works the same way there as it does here?

smang culture (DJP), Thursday, 26 September 2013 20:31 (ten years ago) link

i been to mcdonalds there, the concept is certainly the same there, except you pay p much restaurant prices.

maybe they just got confused

Just a case of "In America you tip at restaurants, in Europe you don't" I guess.

^this. I tipped a kid in my building when he helped me carry my suitcase up the stairs, I could hear him yelling "That guy just gave me money!" afterwards

you don't have to tip on planes in the 1950s (was at a dinner party at the weekend and this was handed round for some reason and I thought of ilx)

well this has taken a strange turn - particularly how the restaurant claims they have the original receipt and comped a meal to ensure she was tipped, yet the Visa statement shows the 111.55 amount.

Gotta be satire. https://www.facebook.com/bodybuildersagainsttipping

Awesome night out at Texas Roadhouse..got a great chest pump while eating there, I'll explain.

I forgot I was wearing my tank top ( Ha ha jk, but not to show off ) and the girls working were begging to see me in action. I seriously refused until the whole right section of the roadhouse was cheering me on, so had no choice. They had 2 of these huge beer kegs in the back. I'm not an expert on weight but I can guarantee you they were at least 175 pounds, so 400 together. So I'm laying on the broiler and I repped out at least 16 deep presses, while the waitresses are feeling my calves haha gotta love it. I could tell the guy who was my server was pissed and can only imagine his anger when he checked my receipt. Just another night out as a wealthy bodybuilder.

Somewhat-unrelated: I just started working as a parking attendant/security guard & already two people have tipped me for MAKING THEM MOVE THEIR CARS--wtf, drunk rich guys!

One dude was like "hey, good lookin out, somebody might've tried to tow me!" -- I didn't have the heart to tell him that I am the one who calls the tow company in that scenario

I tipped the plumber this weekend, but looked it up online afterwards and learned that you probably don't have to.

one month passes...

Had to buy a new dishwasher this past weekend. It was delivered and installed today. The delivery arrived separately from the guy who actually hooked up the electrics and plumbing a few hours later. I only had a single $5 bill on hand because I'm a piece of shit. I ended up tipping the installer, because he did more work, but I'm thinking I should have tipped the delivery guys instead, because they probably have a lower base wage.

Honest question: why are you tipping a doorman?

Liquid Plejades, Monday, 15 September 2014 09:20 (nine years ago) link

I use to get occasional tips (buck or two) from customers when I worked at a video rental store. Always erased their late fees after that!
