xposts i know what you're saying but something about the super-strict DO THIS GO HERE DONT EVEN THINK OF GOING OVER THERE really grated on me. so wearying and nagging after playing semi-open & brilliant stuff like far cry 3/BD, dishonored, splinter cell, etc. (uncharted 2 being, uh, a bit closer in gameplay to those than 'a racing game'). hated tons of other things about it though so maybe under diff circumstances i wouldn't have minded so much.

adam, what didn't you like about LoU?

NI, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 16:59 (ten years ago) link

ya i actually find that kind of thing refreshing after so many open-world games that dont really provide fun so much as the illusion of fun, most of them are just walking around pretty dead zones looking for people to give you chores to do

socki (s1ocki), Tuesday, 22 October 2013 19:12 (ten years ago) link

hahaha i wonder what game you are talking about s1ocki :D

adam, what didn't you like about LoU?

zambies, dead daughter, general sense of Importance, usual bad naughty dog shooting without nathan drake OTT legend of the nazi sub gold fun

adam, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 19:51 (ten years ago) link

yeah like i said, it's not about wanting it to be some vast sprawling open game thing, just the option to do a mission in more than one ultra-defined way would turn up the fun quota a notch for me. bought uncharted 2 & 3 at same time so gona try out 3 soon, see if the movement/shooting mechanics have improved at all (prob my key gripe with 2)

NI, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 20:21 (ten years ago) link

Whoa this current sale is fucking nuts. Walking dead season pass for $2.99 for ps+

ACA: not bad, needs more death panels (jjjusten), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 04:10 (ten years ago) link

i'm even tempted to rebuy on PS3 at that price, but eh... am i really ever gonna play it again

Nhex, Wednesday, 23 October 2013 06:31 (ten years ago) link

Ok now that I got it for free, and have spent 30 minutes on it, someone please explain to me why hotline Miami isn't completely unfun and horrible garbage.

ACA: not bad, needs more death panels (jjjusten), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 07:22 (ten years ago) link

I spent 30 minutes on the PC version and thought it was great fun, I think maybe it's best approached as a puzzle game than a top down shooter? It's massively unforgiving but I think the point is that you need to figure out how best to approach each level over multiple attempts.

Didn't play much more though because I'm assuming it'll be a PS+ vita game eventually and I'd rather play it on there.

JimD, Wednesday, 23 October 2013 10:34 (ten years ago) link

Yeah I think it's in the guilty satisfaction of a meticulously planned massacre coming together at the 15th attempt, controls are a bit bullshit at times tho

Think it's on US PSPlus imminently and like 2.50 on the Europe one

random accies memories (Sgt. Biscuits), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 11:22 (ten years ago) link

jim is right, it's not a shooter at all, it's more of a plan-and-go tactical puzzle game. the high comes successful execution of those plans and the twitch satisfaction of surviving the metal-gear-on-acid AI

Nhex, Wednesday, 23 October 2013 15:11 (ten years ago) link

not to be confused with Metal Gear Acid AI

I've Seen rRootage (Will M.), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 15:22 (ten years ago) link

im guessing that it would be tons better on pc, controls on ps3 seem not so hot

on more important news, woke up to random funds being added to my account and a really poorly worded email saying that someones friend had added funds to my account to buy gta v and apologizing. obv a scam, so i went to the sony entertainment whatever from my computer and changed my password - i am new to ps3 identity theft, is there more shit that i should do? the funds are in my wallet, so it wasn't a straight phishing email.

*note to self: switch to plan B*

Bitch Fantastic (DJP), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 15:40 (ten years ago) link

ha and in a truly amazing design choice, it appears that i can't blank my credit card info from the pc site, so basically theres nothing else i can do until i get home 9 hours from now. thats comforting.

ACA: not bad, needs more death panels (jjjusten), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 15:46 (ten years ago) link

ouch, that sucks

xps i haven't tried it on PS3 yet, but it's hard for me to imagine playing that game well without the mouse control

Nhex, Wednesday, 23 October 2013 15:51 (ten years ago) link

jjj jsut dont respond. they cant access any of your information unless you give it to them. changing your password is a good move, but dont worry about anyone breaking into your cc. if you're really really concerned call the bank & block the card for 24h or something

cozen, Wednesday, 23 October 2013 22:14 (ten years ago) link

random accies memories (Sgt. Biscuits), Saturday, 26 October 2013 14:42 (ten years ago) link

sometimes playing it makes me wistful that I can't bring the same level of elaborate planning skills to bear on my actual workload at work as I do when I'm feverishly prioritising which guy I'm going to hit with the golf club first and what I'll do if the fuckin dog wanders in mid-massacre

random accies memories (Sgt. Biscuits), Saturday, 26 October 2013 14:59 (ten years ago) link

Just finished Last of Us and it was fucking great. Wasn't really feeling it for the first 3 hours or so, but once I got the mechanics down it totally sucked me in. Couldn't put it down. The last 1/3 or so was particularly beautifully done. I can honestly say I've never given a damn about characters or story in just about any game I've ever played, but I got super invested in this one. "Citizen Kane of video games" is pretty lol, but this really did impress me.

Really great Spielberg-ian moment of respite towards the end. Not sure if it was the emotional weakness from the hangover, but that was so completely unexpected and perfect.

circa1916, Sunday, 27 October 2013 05:58 (ten years ago) link

i have bought it and am really looking forward to playing it after i finish GTA5 some time in 2015

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Sunday, 27 October 2013 13:53 (ten years ago) link

two weeks pass...

Why is it so hard to get psn to add funds to my wallet. I just want to drunkenly spree buy catherine and the directors cut of deadly premonition u fuckers take my money.

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Thursday, 14 November 2013 05:19 (ten years ago) link

do it through the website

Nhex, Thursday, 14 November 2013 05:43 (ten years ago) link

EU PS+ games for December:

GRID 2
Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed
GTA Liberty City Stories
Guacamelee!
Resogun (PS4)
Contrast (PS4)

Pretty great batch.

JimD, Thursday, 14 November 2013 10:34 (ten years ago) link

Locked out of my wallet because I suck at filling out forms. Still downloaded catherine ($13.39) and will pounce on deadly premonition when my lock clears in 24 hours. $25! Why do you not already have this?

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Friday, 15 November 2013 03:45 (ten years ago) link

honestly? waiting on a 75% off steam sale

Nhex, Friday, 15 November 2013 05:12 (ten years ago) link

Fair

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Friday, 15 November 2013 05:12 (ten years ago) link

Isn't the PC port supposed to be all sorts of broken? Although maybe this isn't the game to worry about that really :p

( X '____' )/ (zappi), Friday, 15 November 2013 10:50 (ten years ago) link

Ok the vita only ps+ freebie oddworld:strangers wrath is the first time ever where I have been super jealous of u peeps. Great fucking game.

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Wednesday, 20 November 2013 07:35 (ten years ago) link

I rebought that when it popped up on PSN a few moths ago. They aced the PS3 port. Looks and plays great.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 20 November 2013 14:19 (ten years ago) link

Really? I knew nothing about it, tried it for 20 mins, hated it, uninstalled. What am I missing?

JimD, Thursday, 21 November 2013 11:53 (ten years ago) link

Did anyone actually play Puppeteer? It's on sale at BB and I'm tempted to grab it for the backlog.

Nhex, Monday, 25 November 2013 03:47 (ten years ago) link

Ok dudes, when borderlands 2 drops this month on ps+ we have no excuse not to crew up.

I have no mic so don't even start with me

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Thursday, 5 December 2013 07:45 (ten years ago) link

i'm down

Nhex, Thursday, 5 December 2013 08:05 (ten years ago) link

I suck but I'm game. No mic here, either. Skype well we play?

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 5 December 2013 14:38 (ten years ago) link

maybe this will be the thing that finally gets me to pick up a piece of crap $15 BT headset

Nhex, Thursday, 5 December 2013 15:02 (ten years ago) link

Lol okay, I can be down for this

SHAUN (DJP), Thursday, 5 December 2013 16:15 (ten years ago) link

i'm in. no mic though, fuck that. and i may end up just playing the single player forever getting ready

mics do make these games a lot more fun, when you're not playing with jackass randoms
that said i will probably be too lazy to get one in time. maybe we can do a text chat room via skype on our phones or something

Nhex, Thursday, 5 December 2013 16:52 (ten years ago) link

yeah i'll warm the bench for this if anyone can't make it, such a fun game

Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 5 December 2013 16:55 (ten years ago) link

man if thats on ps+ i could f with that too
(do we have some sort of psn username share situation?)

I've Seen rRootage (Will M.), Thursday, 5 December 2013 18:20 (ten years ago) link

Already played this game enough on 360 that I won't be getting it for PS3, but I will say that playing the single player "to get ready" is sorta pointless, forks. You can play it that way but it doesn't make things easier. There are a few battles where it helped me to do on my own to understand how to do them well, but they were pretty late in the game, and mostly those were just due to my patheticness at shooting games. Ideally you have a team that is all roughly the same level so you're all facing the same challenge level. Overpowered guys take the fun out of the multiplayer game.

polyphonic, Thursday, 5 December 2013 18:53 (ten years ago) link

Okay then i will play with group if were on same timeframes
