he's at his best when he's on the bench.

How did this Laker team beat the Clips? Blowing my mind.

Im def interested in detroit this year

@ZachLowe_NBA: It has taken NY fans one game to sour on Bargnani. This has serious toxic fan-player relations potential.

*throws a log on the fire*

is that the only fan base where you have to deeply consider w each acquisition whether they will hate him

lag∞n, Thursday, 31 October 2013 14:26 (ten years ago) link

bargnani seems like a delicate flower who will be mashed and ground into the nyc pavement

they went 14-29 from 3. that'll happen probably 0 times again this year

twist boat veterans for stability (k3vin k.), Thursday, 31 October 2013 15:09 (ten years ago) link

any chance that spoelstra is borrowing from pop's rest-key-players-on-b2b's?

occam's razor says wade's knees are just permanently borked, prob

乒乓, Thursday, 31 October 2013 15:11 (ten years ago) link

they're def putting wade on the pop sched but lol the dude is 31 he can play the second game of the season

J0rdan S., Thursday, 31 October 2013 15:23 (ten years ago) link

@JasonCFriedman: A little extra perspective on Dwight Howard's monster rebounding night: During his 35 minutes of PT, HOU corralled > 46% of its missed shots

lag∞n, Thursday, 31 October 2013 16:01 (ten years ago) link

Lin looked pretty good last night. it's a cliche at this point, but he's such a great 6th man type player. comes off bench and is immediately attacking the basket.

ryan, Thursday, 31 October 2013 16:21 (ten years ago) link

yeah I saw that beverley only got 10 minutes of burn

looking at the rockets roster it seems kind of...topheavy

乒乓, Thursday, 31 October 2013 16:35 (ten years ago) link

they def have some trades to make

lag∞n, Thursday, 31 October 2013 16:47 (ten years ago) link

i mean the lakers will still suck but diantoni can kinda do his thing w/o the ballstoppers kobe and dwight in there so like a bunch of players will have career years from three

I started writing your name on Grantland in all caps, and with an exclamation point at the end. It has randomly caught on. The Bucks tell me they use it sometimes in internal communications. Do you know about this?

Yeah, yeah, I do. That’s awesome.

And, most importantly: Are you OK with it?

Oh, yeah! That’s fine! It’s cool.

Good. I mean, I just felt like your game merited that kind of treatment. Part of that was the emphatic shot blocks, but I have to admit, the stuff with the referees and the ejections played into it.

That’s funny. But it’s cool. Keep doing it.

lag∞n, Thursday, 31 October 2013 17:09 (ten years ago) link

His biggest struggles, obviously, were off the court during his time in Philadelphia. The guiding force for Iverson, and the man whose name he couldn't bring up without crying, was former teammate Aaron McKie.

mckie was the best, AI was the best, man, emotions

乒乓, Thursday, 31 October 2013 17:35 (ten years ago) link

Yeah that retirement speech thing :(((

Me & Mahomies (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Thursday, 31 October 2013 17:36 (ten years ago) link

ai is the realest ever

lag∞n, Thursday, 31 October 2013 17:51 (ten years ago) link

wish he could play forever

Clay, Thursday, 31 October 2013 17:57 (ten years ago) link

"But I'll watch tapes of AI, too. I don't take anything from AI. Well, I do -- his will. They say he was 6 feet, but AI was like 5-10½. Do we even want to say 160? 170 [pounds]? Do we even want to give him that much weight? And he played like a 6-8 2-guard. He was one of the greatest finishers we've ever seen. You could never question his heart. Ever. He gave it his all. AI was like my second-favorite player growing up, after MJ."

Asik had 14 boards last night, so he and Dwight combined for 40. Pretty good.

then bag eek?

Aimless, Thursday, 31 October 2013 20:42 (ten years ago) link

they def have some trades to make

probably, but at the same time i really buy that they want Asik/Howard to work. (there's just no cool way to combine those two names, sadly. Asward? Howsik?) in much the same way i think Lin/Beverly are kind of a cool second team wreck crew. how many teams can transition from a two towers rebounding and paint protecting behemoth to rapidfire small ball like that?

ryan, Thursday, 31 October 2013 21:09 (ten years ago) link

i got it: Ho-mer!

the crash brothers

twist boat veterans for stability (k3vin k.), Thursday, 31 October 2013 21:12 (ten years ago) link

im sure dwight will figure it out (the stupid name, that is) if asik sticks around.

ryan, Thursday, 31 October 2013 21:12 (ten years ago) link

poor asik

lag∞n, Thursday, 31 October 2013 21:14 (ten years ago) link

i got a lot of pleasure at asik's hang dog and exhausted looking put-uponness last year--paired with dwight he seems like the long-suffering straight man in a bad comedy routine.

ryan, Thursday, 31 October 2013 21:16 (ten years ago) link

haha yes

still can't believe that article on shaw i posted earlier. pound the ball inside...what year is this?

twist boat veterans for stability (k3vin k.), Thursday, 31 October 2013 21:28 (ten years ago) link

Hours before deadline, it remains unlikely that Utah and Gordon Hayward will close the gap and agree on extension, league source says.

Shaw is a Triangle guy and it's a post offense.

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 31 October 2013 23:07 (ten years ago) link

IMO when they get Gallo back they should run the post with him a lot since he's the best passer on the team.

Apparently the Kings declined Fredette's option.

nuggets talk will be banned when they slip below .300, everyone agree?

Jimmer will get one more shot with a team before heading overseas, no?

Me & Mahomies (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Thursday, 31 October 2013 23:42 (ten years ago) link

the asik-howard dynamic reminds me of perfect strangers except the straight man is the euro and the wacky guy with bad fashion sense is the american

also they're not cousins

z-time champion (agent hibachi), Thursday, 31 October 2013 23:42 (ten years ago) link

im sure someone will give jimmer one more cheap contract- probably a contender looking for threes off the bench- but the league is p close to full employment right now and there is a deep draft coming

of course the likes of daequan cook and james jones hung around forever so who knows

z-time champion (agent hibachi), Thursday, 31 October 2013 23:48 (ten years ago) link

hope no one ever floats to dwight that he belongs in sitcoms xp
