On season 2. El Piolin! Lovin this

Ayn Rand Akbar (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 7 November 2013 04:50 (ten years ago) link

Best show on TV in years. And it is all about the characterisation rather than 'the jokes'. Kenny and Stevie are just so amazingly written. The kids baseball prep talk on this season was just incredible.

Jamie_ATP, Friday, 8 November 2013 14:30 (ten years ago) link

Kenny Powers: I mean, I guess the only advice I can have is just maybe you should just appreciate what you got.

Even if what you got is a woman that’s built like mashed potatoes.

Stevie Janowski: Mashed potatoes?

Just realised I never finished season 3 of this, got 3 episodes from the end and then forgot about it. Watched 6 and 7 from season 3 last night, reaaaally good. As has been noted, the music in this is top notch, "Without You" by Rainbow Arabia and "Heartbreakin' Ball" by Lonnie Walker two relatively recent ones I'd never heard (never heard of the artists either tbh) that are both lovely

^^^ this. I find myself laughing a lot at this show, but there are not really a whole lot of one-liners or standalone jokes to quote

moment that i loled extremely hard at this season: stevie, kenny, april walking back to their car after kenny owns dantel on sports sesh, stevie: "april did your pussy get wet in there? if i had one it'd be squirting everywhere" kenny: "jesus christ stevie don't talk about my wife's genital parts" *stevie punches through car window*

flopson, Friday, 8 November 2013 20:34 (ten years ago) link

Yeah that was fucking funny!

Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Friday, 8 November 2013 20:37 (ten years ago) link

the use of "alive and kicking" at the end of the sports sesh comeback was so good

i can't remember if stevie punched through the window in excitement or in anguish/embarassment

flopson, Friday, 8 November 2013 20:41 (ten years ago) link

It was excitement. April's "see you later pumpkin" was great too

Wtf a bit of Richard Hawley in one of season 2's contemplative moments

Feeling pretty confident this has been the best season of the show. Ken Marino is unreal.

kaleb h. (Everything You Like Sucks), Tuesday, 12 November 2013 08:15 (ten years ago) link

Good job me, using my embarrassing "I don't ever plan to post with this" throwaway username. Awesome.

kaleb, Tuesday, 12 November 2013 08:17 (ten years ago) link

But yeah, the party confrontation struck a perfect balance between being earnestly devastating and funny at the same time. And Ken Marino's meltdown. Such a great show when it wants to be. "Feeeeexins" alone makes this a good deal better than season 3.

kaleb, Tuesday, 12 November 2013 08:21 (ten years ago) link

I love this show (on the end of S3 right now) and I love Will Ferrell but man does it grind to a halt/go to a bad place when he shows up. he can't even pull off a southern accent. and that episode at his "plantation" was just wtf.

Ayn Rand Akbar (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 15 November 2013 22:30 (ten years ago) link

Am I the only person who liked the plantation episode?

I agree about the plantation episode being maybe a bit too wonky, but by and large I think Ferrell works in this. Ric Flair homages remain enjoyable in all their forms. See also that bit in Workaholics Season 3 after Adam Devine gets smashed in the face with a shovel.

Am I the only person who liked the plantation episode?

Yes. Well, I can't say that for sure, but it is one of the most WTF episodes of anything I've ever seen.

That's pretty much what I liked about it. It was like Kenny was having a weird fever dream.

I feel like Stevie should be given not just the Emmy but also an Oscar/Tony/Grammy/Clio for his work this season. He's so, so, so good. Up there with Hank Kingsley in the tragic sidekicks Hall of Fame.

Walter Galt, Saturday, 16 November 2013 08:59 (ten years ago) link

Absolutely. I don't know if what the actor will wind up doing after Eastbound but what he's done with that character is just great work.

thought the last ep was amazing. incredible montage.

had so much more of an emotional connection with this and far more end of series sadness than for breaking bad. which is a little worrying.

LOS ANGELES, May 28, 2014 – Danny McBride, star of the hit HBO comedy
series “Eastbound & Down,” will return to the network in the comedy series VICE
PRINCIPALS, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president, HBO
Programming. The show is slated for 18 episodes, with the debut date and number of
episodes per season to be announced as they are confirmed.
“Danny McBride and Jody Hill have created a smart, rowdy and unpredictable style
of comedy that we can’t get enough of,” said Lombardo. “The idea of them setting their
minds on high school was irresistible.”
“HBO was the perfect creative family for ‘Eastbound & Down,’ and we’re excited to
pack up the van for the next adventure,” notes McBride.
“When the idea for the new series became too crazy to keep to ourselves, we
knew HBO was the perfect place to unleash it,” says executive producer David Gordon
Green.
Created by Danny McBride and Jody Hill, who were also the creators of
“Eastbound & Down,” VICE PRINCIPALS tells the story of a high school and the people
who almost run it, the vice principals.
Concluding its four-season run on HBO in 2013, “Eastbound & Down” starred
McBride as irrepressible former major league pitcher Kenny Powers.
VICE PRINCIPALS is executive produced by Danny McBride, Jody Hill, David Gordon Green and Stephanie Laing, who were also executive producers of “Eastbound &
Down.”

Has he ever played against type? "All the Real Girls" seems like the most "against type" Danny McBride performance and that was like his first movie.

Immediate Follower (NA), Wednesday, 28 May 2014 20:43 (nine years ago) link

not yet. doesn't really bother me tbh. Feel like Observe & Report role should've been his too.

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 28 May 2014 21:01 (nine years ago) link

Yeah I'm fine with him just doing his thing. I can't really imagine him being good at much else. Even at the beginning of the last season of Eastbound where he was the mild-mannered family man, it didn't really work.

Immediate Follower (NA), Wednesday, 28 May 2014 21:03 (nine years ago) link

i disagree, when a DMcB character attempts to behave against type, thats some of the best DMcB

°ㅇ๐ْ ° (gr8080), Wednesday, 28 May 2014 21:06 (nine years ago) link

that was one episode where he was mild-mannered family man and it was hilarious
