wow that was dreadful. where the lols at.

cutty, Tuesday, 3 March 2009 02:32 (fifteen years ago) link

Haven't watched the third episode yet, but so far it seems like the redneck version of Kath & Kim - more surreal discomfort than laugh-out-loud lolz.I keep waiting for Andy Daly to completely flip out...

Any scene where he's listening to his own audio book = instant LMAO

Chris Barrus (Elvis Telecom), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 02:40 (fifteen years ago) link

wilter, Thursday, 12 March 2009 05:55 (fifteen years ago) link

ok this episode was great. the principals name is the same as my last name. and everyone calls him by his last name. so that's a little weird for me.

the stevie janowski character has gotten more enjoyable. i couldn't take him at the beginning.

cutty, Friday, 13 March 2009 23:09 (fifteen years ago) link

this show is amazing. the will Ferrell Ric Flair impersonation episode kind of sucked and had me worried but the past two have picked right up where the first one left off.

autogoblin (surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally), Friday, 13 March 2009 23:19 (fifteen years ago) link

# Kenny Powers brings some fucking new meaning to the term STIMULUS PACKAGE.10:28 PM Mar 8th from web

LOL

warmed to this show with 4&5. especially 5: taking out darryl-from-the-office's eye was kind of amazing.

FREE DOM AND ETHAN (special guest stars mark bronson), Sunday, 22 March 2009 11:41 (fifteen years ago) link

i think i really warmed to it when Stevie Janowski started with the whole Kenny Powers emulation stuff. so fucking funny

wilter, Sunday, 22 March 2009 23:33 (fifteen years ago) link

yah that dudes super hilarious he was so rad at the cookout - also kenny powers seemed kinda typical and easy at first but his evolutions pretty well played - expected it to either go full loser or just redeemable and resigned but as evidenced by head hunting at the dealership hes channeling his mojo in sweet directions

ice cr?m, Sunday, 22 March 2009 23:39 (fifteen years ago) link

something abt the way danny mcbride talks is just compelling

ice cr?m, Sunday, 22 March 2009 23:40 (fifteen years ago) link

Otm. like at the cookout when Stevie asks Kenny what he thought abt putting on the promotional dvd Kenny says I think that's cool as shit, make it look like it was your idea seemed somehow profound.

a little bit precious wasn't it?

I'm just hoping they've ended it like that to drive some new arc nest season (if there is one), and not to be heavy and significant

totes agree with all of this - at first i was super skeptical and now i love it... some of the best swearing dialogue ever!

s1ocki, Tuesday, 7 April 2009 18:15 (fifteen years ago) link

i play real sports, not trying to be the best at exercising.

Kerm, Tuesday, 7 April 2009 18:18 (fifteen years ago) link

also the scene where he's walking down the hall pumping his hips and doing the pistol finger thing with music playing in slo mo and then it cuts to non-slomo, no music, everyone ignoring him, is still f'ing killing me

s1ocki, Tuesday, 7 April 2009 18:19 (fifteen years ago) link

the scene that kills me again and again:

sister in law is explaining how to use ebay and he asks her why she's helping him and she goes into this long bit about how she believes in helping family members because it bestows blessings on her blah blah blah
and he's playing with a pair of y-fronts all this time and interrupts her, holding the y-front open so that her face is visible through the hole and goes

"This is where my dick goes"

me = completely. destroyed.

yeah...i don't know what format the character would've worked in better (movie? sketches?) but i don't know if it's enough to support a half hour series...they stretched the premise so thin in 6 episodes that i was relieved they stopped there and gave it a nice little arc, more than that would've been overkill.

andrei armpitshavin (some dude), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 23:46 (fifteen years ago) link

I reckon this as a movie would've been too foot fist way-like.

four months pass...

finally got around to this on Prime. first few episodes were grating but I'm glad I read the thread and stuck with it cos it's had me howling since. Kenny popping out the dude's eye. Kenny Powers 'freestyling' on his girlfriend's track. Steve making awkward jizz sound effects, "that's your dick, buttfucking her". Kenny coming onto the field riding a fuckin' donkey.

Neanderthal, Thursday, 28 July 2016 03:37 (seven years ago) link

steve has got to be the most hilariously pathetic character in the history of american television

wizzz! (amateurist), Thursday, 28 July 2016 04:03 (seven years ago) link

Otm

Οὖτις, Thursday, 28 July 2016 04:03 (seven years ago) link

he played a similar character on the much less funny The Grinder, seems to be his niche.

when he was throwing out gangster lingo in Season 1 was also hilarious. I feel like everybody knows a dude like this that they've tried to put out of their memory.

Neanderthal, Thursday, 28 July 2016 04:06 (seven years ago) link

the scene with a hooker where steve asks about how kenny was in bed has got to be some kind of high/low point.

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 28 July 2016 18:21 (seven years ago) link

Sudeikis' character was originally supposed to be played by Goggins iirc?

Οὖτις, Thursday, 28 July 2016 18:24 (seven years ago) link

that might not be right, I def read somewhere recently that he was not the first choice

Οὖτις, Thursday, 28 July 2016 18:24 (seven years ago) link

For Mr. McBride’s slick, bowtie-clad nemesis, Lee Russell, the creators turned to Mr. Goggins, a star of “Justified,” “The Shield” and “The Hateful Eight,” who had once auditioned for an “Eastbound & Down” role that went to Jason Sudeikis of “Saturday Night Live.”

(As Mr. Goggins recalled of that encounter: “I got to the meeting, and it was me and five ex-‘S.N.L.’ guys. What am I doing here, really?”)
